Red, i have a 115 etec on my 5.5 platey, from memory at at that rpm i will get about 300k's from the gps range on 150lts. I have left shellherbour ramp and traveled to Kiama canyons 4000rpm, fish bottom with motor running 2 hrs, and back at same rpm, travel about 90ks and used about 55lts. Hope this helps. Luke.
  3. Hi, has anyone got or tried any electric reels for deep drop applications eg browns? I have been looking at Miya epoch x6 and diawa 1000fe. Any help would be much appreciated. Luke.
  4. Anyone ever tried in the Minnamurra river for muddies? It looks the goods around the mangroves.
  5. Bad luck mate, there was a couple of fish were taken off Jb on the weelend but from what ive heard they have mostly moved down south now.
  6. Fished wide off Kiama again on sunday. Conditions were perfect. After getting bait we headed east and set lures at 15k mark. Trolled to kiama canyous then headed south with water to 22.6 deg and really dirty.Headed to our fad off shoalhaven heads and it was loaded with smallish dollies which were very fussy. We tried burley, three different baits including live and lures but only managed 2 small dollies. So we headed back to the wall to drop some deep baits.First drop we got two nice gemmies. From then on we were pulling up 2-3 green eye each time, so head in. Was very quite out on Sunday the skeds only had peaple tagging smal;l dollies and one mako caught to 4pm.
  7. Dave, last time i fished Kiama fad i lost a 20kg+ dollie, that was 3 weeks ago. The fads that we fished yesterday were private fads and they were loaded with dollies they just didnt want to bite, although its a new moon on the weekend which increases your chance as they dont feed at night. The ones we were at were a bit closer to the shelf line than Kiama fad but the water temp would be the same there. Personally id try Port at the wave rider on your way through to the fad, then youve got 2 spots to try. I will probably be heading out sunday whats your call or boat name ? Maby ill hear from you out there see how things are going, mines "watery deep" Either way it looks like sunday is going to be a good day on the water anyway. Cheers Luke
  8. We fished out of Kiama yesterday, leaving harbour at 6am and gathering some bait, which proved to be quite difficult as they were there but werent on the chew and also barracuta were biting us off. Started to head SE to some private fads the water temp was 21.5 where we found plenty of just legal dollies but nothing of size with them.Tried another fad where first cast we landed an 80cm dollie but then they went off the bite.So we headed wide hoping to find some warmer water for blue marlin. We set coarse for 1500 fathom mark with spread of blue marlin lures out.Ended up heading out there then back up to Shellharbour kink , then back up the shelf line to Kiama canyons before passing another fad just inside the shelf where there were hunderds of dollies but not hungry, before trolling to the 30 fathon mark then powering home to Harbour. Even right out wide at 1500 ftm the water only reached 22deg,(10 days ago we had 26) and there was no sign of any birds or bait all day. Ended up doing 110mile but got at least we got a feed of Dolphin fish. Hopefully the warm currents will come back for some better action. Luke.
  9. Mate, when floating pillies i just use my snapper outfit, makes for great fun when you do hook up even to undersized fish, couple of weeks back i fished the wave recorder and first cast of ploating pillie got nailed by a fish around the one meter mark but hook pulled at boat, real challenge on snapper gear. If pullling livies i usually use 15kg gear as you never know what might grab a livie.
  10. To anyone planning to fish the Kiama Tourny, i just heard that its now been cancelled. Without going into to much detail, the council has decieded to rip up the ramp or something on the tournament dates. Real shame, its always a good one, 205kg black took it out last year. Luke.
  11. Hi there, Just wondering if anyone in here is fishing the shellharbour comp this week end. If so good luck. I wont be fishing this one (my local) as im off OS on Sat. There has been some big blues around down here, one boat on Sunday fighting one in 65fthms for near six hours only to lose it. Luke.
  12. Dont know about the calibration thing, but i run two sounders and they both said the same. There was one other boat at the fad in the morning using plastics, but they werent having much luck, we left to go wide when 4 other boats rocked up, and there was one other boat near the fad on our way back in, when we hooked the big one, which was very annoying as they seen us hook up and thought they'd come over for a look however this fish was taking heaps of line and they were almost on top of it.
  13. Hi, we fished kiama fad this morning in 24.2 deg water. After floating some pillies and landing about 10 undersized dollies decieded to pull a decent sized slimie around fad. Second pass it gets nailed and a 90cm fish is landed. Left the fad and headed wide looking for marlin. Got 2 striped tuna which we pulled foe a couple of hours for zeros. Decided to pull lures for the rest of the day for zeros. Headed back to fad on the way back home and rigged up two more slimies. First pass the 15kg outfit gets nailed and line is screaming off the reel. Lisa was on the rod and doing a top job. This fish was not stopping for anybody, pulling off about 400mtrs of line in first 2 runs.Lifted the the drag up a tad over strike but it didnt make much difference. So we started chacing the fish down and finally getting some line back before another thumping run pulled the line around the fad and busted us off. So he lives to fight another day. All in all a good day with a feed of fish tonight. Cheers Luke
  14. Gday mate, Im running 2 tranducers at the moment, a lowrance and a furuno. I have found that when their both running at same frequence eg both at 200khz they arnt as accurate but if one is 50 and the other 200 then theres no problem. Running 2 sounders can sometimes cause interference to each other. Thanks LUke Cheer
  15. Wow 8.5.5. That would have a good day out, were they in big boats as it would have been big swell? There were heaps of really small kings at the port wave rider.
  16. Has anyone heard of seen any marlin off the illawarra? I went out yesterday, i didnt dare go any further than 60 fathoms as the current was ripping and there was still considerable swell about plus 15knt s'ly. The water temp was 23.7 and water looked good, with a lot of bait around. Checked out Port Kembla fad, no dollies to be seen and no bites but this was probably because of the strong current. Talked to a mate from Kiama charter boat who said that he dropprd a blue estimated at 300+ Last week of december and has been playing with some finacky stripes. As soon as this weather fines up i recon there will be a few marlin caught. Luke.
  17. Hi, I launched my 4.75m stacer at the Currawong sand ramp last year, it was shallow at low tide when we launched, and there was little beach left at high when we retrieved but it was doable with a 4wd. Just a tip if you do jaunch from that ramp and the water is washing around your back tyres when retrieving reverse a little frist before going forward as this will stop your rear wheels sinking in the sand. Otherwise use crookhaven heads ramp This is a bar crossing but not to bad most of the time. Or if your fishing JB use Myola ramp into the creek as it as accessable at any Tide. I wouldnt recommend Callala ramp as its nearly inaccesable at low tide and it gets so busy. Just go and have a look at Currawong and see what you think. There have been Kings to 20kg caught at the Banks this week on live slimeys. Cheers Luke
  18. Hi Jim, Thanks, the boat and trailer was built by a guy from port stephens in my (kiama) GFC. This is one of the reasons that it is so easy to use besause it was built by someone as a fisherman himself, knows what a drive on trailer should be like. Are you from Wollongong/Illawarra area? If so it may be worth your while having a a chat to a to some of the guys from a boat named RESURECTION, as they are local to Oak Flats, and build great drive on trailers sinilar to mine. I could probably chase up his phone number for you if you want. Cheers Luke
  19. Hi Achjimmy, My trailer is a custom made drive on trailer. It has 5 polyurithane skids shaped to the v of the hull running up the trailer, you simple get the nose of the boat somewhere within the v of the skids and nomatter what angle you jusk keep light power on and boat will simply slide into the v and go on straight, then you just power up and put bow straight into post cradle. I dont pull out the cable any more than 100mm. If you want a drine on trailer skids are the way to go rollers are a pain in the butt. Give me a yell if you want some pics. Cheers Luke

    Bastards

On my recent trip to Myola, JB, the first day that i was out on the water some bastards tried to break into my hilux. They tried to smash the driver window and now i have about 10 chips and scratches in it. When i talked to one of the local houses up the road they said that unfortunatly its common at Myola Ramp. So just a warning to anyone launching there, drive up to where the houses are and park youe car and trailer out the front of them, the people that live there are really nice, and keep a look out also its not so isolated as ramp is. Luke.

    Furuno

Netic, if you purchase from bonzer imports you wont have any import taxes as he sends the units and other bits seperatly to avoid this.(or he did with mine anyway). Luke
  22. Hi, two years ago i was at coffs and kings to 15kg were atking our marlin lures around the solitary islands. Last year we got all our bait just outside of the harbour entrance, and picked up a few hoodlems around the fisrt island in front of harbour about 1k out. From memory marine perk is on northers sides of islands. Also we got some good snapper and pearlys in 30fathoms near wave recoeder(also good for dollies.) Make sure you be wary of the ramp when launching and retreiving your boat, as when swell is only about 1.5m it surges up about 3m. Theres nothing better than a beer at the fishos club on way home. Good Luck Luke
  23. Try these guys out of JB http://www.jervisbayfishing.com.au or http://www.simosafloat.com.au/ or these guys out of greenwell point http://www.silverstarfishingcharters.com.au cheers Luke
