  1. This week the yellowfin tuna are absolutely on fire out on the shelf off bermagui, everyone is braining them down there it is definately the place to be,but i reckon there will be plenty in july as well as its a great month for tuna, should be kingys around the island as well as good snapper on the close in reefs, and if the weather is rough, then you got the narooma inlet which has got plenty of bream, flathead, trevally etc ,its the cleanest waterway ive ever seen anywhere, absolutely prestine. Just a little tip though mate,if you are thinking of goin out to chase yellowfin at the shelf or the kink off naroom,do youself a favour and drive the extra 25min down to bermagui and launch your boat there. There is no bar to cross, which stops you worrying about the return home when the tide is running out and the wind picks up,believe me there is no scarier place to be than the narooma bar when the sea is up; could also be down there myself late june/early july got a few weeks off work and if the fin are on i will be there,as you no these days you gotta go were the fish are and when there on;cause nothing worse when you get to a place like bermi and they tell you, should have been here last week fish were everywere; You just have to take the boat down to a place like narooma, believe me you will be glad you did. Forgot to mention the beaches at narooma, they are usually great fishin for salmon, top fun on light gear. anyway mate, goodluck and take care p.s. make sure you get the GPS marks if you havnt already got them, espacially the 12mile reef, the 9mile,the shelf and the kink.
  2. thats awesome mate, that would have looked unbelievable circling underneath your boat, again how good is the fishing midweek when there are not many boats around, that is a thumper STEVE
  3. mate good stuff, nice feed there and beats sitting home
  4. Mate thats top stuff, good to see you guys get amongst them on the jigs good to see kings schoolin up on the reefs like that, its good fun but like you said jiggings pretty hard work, after a few jigs then hooking up decent kings you now all about it hey; steve
  5. Great bag of flatties guys, thats a great feed of fish you got there bad luck on droppin the big one though.
  6. Top stuff guys what an awesome day looks like you had a ball out there its amazing how good fishin can be during the week, there were no yellowfin in site on the weekend with all the boats at browns, good to see them out there they are real good size fish too,and how good were the conditions hey; cheers steve
  7. Mate that sounds unreal that would be great fun to do,think that the fishin starts to really pick up from about june/july onwards, especially for queenfish, trevally and longtail tuna out the front. If you fishin around weipa itself try the shoreline around the big road bridge, its a great spot late afternoon make sure you you have some live mullet and also fillets of fresh mullet,it goes off for queenys, trevally, barra and big grunter. MAKE SURE YOU GET A GOOD INSECT/MOZZY REPELLANT OR YOU WILL GET EATEN ALIVE, ESPECIALLY LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING.REMEMBER NOT TO GET TOO CLOSE TO THE WATERS EDGE;BIG CROCS! TAKE CARE AND GOODLUCK,STEVE
  8. Peter i agree with you there mate, that threadline setup would be a great way to fish deep water like browns,it would make it heaps more fun bringin up blue eye and gemfish than a big deck winch and definately easier and better than a gamerod/overhead setup. Its the way i will be goin next time im out there, and do you think that you can get 700m of the 100lb braid on that reel? Thanks Steve
  9. Weipa at the tip of cape york is a great place to go and is my favourite place to go up north, if you really wanna get away from it all and got about 3 grand to spend, you cant beat it for the variety of fishing options and the numbers of fish. You got the rivers for barra, threadfin and jacks, the open blue water for queenfish, trevally, longtail tuna.mackerel e.t.c reef fishin and great beach fishing ,walking long deserted stretches of sand casting lures to schools of threadfin salmon, golden trevally, queenys and barra. It is an awesome place to go, last time we went it was november,a great time to fish just before the wet season starts, but im goin again this year in october with 5 other mates. We go on the charter boat, the eclipse; CHEERS STEVE

    Puffer Fish

A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WAS WATCHIN SOME GUYS CLEANING A BLACK MARLIN AROUND 80KG AND INSIDE ITS GUT WERE HEAPS OF TOADFISH AND SMALL LEATHERJACKETS,IF YELLOWFIN AND MARLIN ARE EATING THEM MAYBE WE SHOULD BRIDLE RIG TOADFISH AND TOW THEM AROUND BROWNS IF THE SLIMEYS ARE HARD TO GET
  11. THAT IS ONE BIG BARRACUDA MATE,ITS GOT A DECENT SET OF CHOPPERS ON IT WOULD NOT WANNA GET A HAND OR FINGER NEAR THOSE FANGS, DID YOU GET THAT UP NORTH SOMEWHERE?
  12. Mate great catch u got there, thats a nice kingy from the shore it would have put up a top fight on the 3kg line, usually a 60cm legal king is around the 2kg mark,so your fish there would be at least 3kg and a bit over that, well done
  13. That is a beautiful bream and would have been a great fight good fun to catch both on bait and plastics and 4 days fishin in a row, thats unreal
  14. That sounds like a great little session you had there around the leases, its great fun gettin the bream biting in that mood with constant hits and fightin fish on light tackle in the calm conditions.Had a similar session near towra during the week with plenty of fish on the bite, the bream are goin off at the moment just find the right area at the run-in or runout stages of the tide with good fresh bait on light tackle and u will have some great fun.
  15. GREAT SESSION GUYS THATS A NICE CATCH OF KINGS AND A 38CM RED IS A GOOD ONE FOR INSIDE MIDDLE HARBOUR,TOP DAY
  16. THAT IS A TOP SESSION GUYS THEY ARE NICE KINGS, GREAT FUN TO CATCH,THEY GO SO HARD ITS BEEN AN AWESOME KINGIE SEASON AND IT JUST KEEPS GOIN,GOOD STUFF
  17. Sounds like your boat would be fine for gettin out to the shelf or even browns,as long as your motor is reliable, serviced and maintained, you have a working 27meg radio, epirb, life jackets etc, sufficient fuel say at least 80lt minimum to 100lt for browns and back to be on the safe side.Pick the days you decide to head out and knowing weather forecast prior is important, also if you decide to go get on the water early and make the run out there while the conditions are calmer and at there best as it cuts down on running time and fuel. My boat is a 5.5m stessl bluewater with a 115suzuki 4stroke and regularly make the run out to browns, the far fad and southern canyons from botany without any problems and average 60lt of fuel, the most 80 litres for 10hours trolling all day non stop. The shelf takes 25min from botany heads in good conditions, the far fad is 40min while browns takes me around 1hr to cruise out there. As i mentioned your safety comes first that far out, pick the days if your not sure dont go a better day will always come, and something else i like to do if i go out, is together with mates or people u know in another boat or even two it does 3 things ;its safer;the more company makes it more fun;and it helps in finding fish easier as you can spread out and use radios to communicate between yourselfs. goodluck and take care, steve
  18. Went out trolling with a mate a few years back in his 21ft haines off botany put out the spread of lures on the shelf went about 1km when a long dark shadow appeared behind the 14inch shotgun way out the back, the penn 50w burst into a awesome 700m screamin run with the fish then going straight down into the depths and stayed there, never jumped once didnt see it again until 3 backbreaking hours later when i finally grabbed hold of the leader a huge blue marlin came up to the surface dead ,a gaff wasnt even needed as the big fish never had a kick left in it.It went 213kg on 24kg line but cause the fish was straight down it was too hard, too long and pretty sad to see it come up dead.So definately its better to have big marlin stay alive and closer to the surface the better, the faster u can get them in the better chance u have of a capture and it gives the fish the best chance of survival when tagged and released.
  19. Mate thats a beauty; Bass are a great lookin fish and the scenery u got there isnt too bad either.
  20. That must have been great fun out there with the family its a nice bag of fish
  21. THAT IS A THUMPER BLUE EYE MATE 15KG OF GREAT EATING FISH,MAKES UP FOR THE HOURS OF CONSTANT TROLLING.AS I HAVE NEVER FISHED THE BOTTOM AT BROWNS WAS WONDERING WHAT SORT OF WEIGHT AND RIG IS USED TO GET DOWN,AND IS THERE ANY PREFERANCE AS BAIT FOR BLUE EYE.If anyone can help and give some idea it would be great as i would love to give bottom fishing at browns a go. steve
