  1. I'm pretty keen. It would be good to meet some people and learn some new skills. I'm hopeless when it comes to soft plastics so I'm up for some lessons on the day or before as well( hint hint) if anyone's keen to part with some knowledge. I live down Maitland area so I'll probably just drive up each day or do an over nighter. Are we thinking of a catching up off the water as well for a beer or 2?
  2. Hi All Just a reminder and if you put things off like me, invest in a dual battery set up or jumper pack. I went for a fish this morning and when getting livies my boat wouldn't start. With the westerly blowing I was quickly making my way towards some rocks. Lucky there was another boat there to assist. Big thanks for the bloke that helped me(forgot your name sorry) and nelson bay marine rescue. While I anchored up I was lucky enough to have a small enough piece of rope to pull start the motor so I didn't need towing in the end( which wouldn't have been fun due to the swell between the heads. I recommend trying this at home if you havnt had a go before and check if you have rope suitable as large diameter anchor rope is too hard to use, I know some motors have a rope under the cover but mine didn't. I'm not going out again until I set myself up properly.
  3. Nice one Rick. Are you getting them on lake Mac squid?
  4. I had to throw a bait one way and feed down a livey to try to fool the buggers. One that got tangle mauled me trying to release it much to my mates pleasure. I'm not sure what hit the flatty but it put a good gash towards the tail
  5. Got up early and quickly loaded up on smilies and yakkas, but as usually I attracted the wind. Rough trip out and back but managed to get a few. So frustrating trying to get baits past the mutton birds, couldn't even use any plastics. Had a quick flatty drift on the way in an managed 1 and a leather jacket. Something nailed it on the way up on the tail and the next undersize flatty that came up had something fairly big follow it up, couldn't tell what it was but had a blueish/silver look. Can't complain too much as it was better than being at work.
  6. Nice one fellas. Looks better than Swansea was this morning, fairly wind at the fad. Are they any good eating?
  7. My one was very similar to Ricks. I put an elbow on for a trial as my one wouldn't pick up water while driving, when I'm driving to my spot I don't need to run the pump, the flow of the water was quiet surprising and probably better then just when the pump is running. I think I'll put a tap in to slow the flow down a bit or for when I don't won't to use the tank I'll shut the water off completely. Hopefully how I'm doing it doesn't kill my pump. I'll try to get a photo this afternoon
  8. Nice one Baz. I hit Swansea FAD on Monday and managed 10 just legal and there were heaps just under. I've had similar issues with my pickup in the past and trialled an elbow on the bottom of the pipe with the opening facing towards the front of the boat. It worked a treat when driving but just need a tap inline as Rick suggested. All my live squid stayed healthy even right back to the boat ramp.
  9. Nice one Baz, good to hear you got out for a fish. I went out today and only managed a few trag, seemed like most people got the same as they were the only fish I saw getting cleaned.👍.
  10. Good to hear you got back out on the water Baz. What's the ramp like at the moment, still crowded?
  11. Nice catch mate. I hit the lake the other day and only managed a few tailor. That snapper at the top looks like a good one, how big did it go?
  12. Thanks mate. I was planning on splicing 2 ropes together to make a longer one. Due to me being a fairly ordinary spicer I think it might get stuck when it slide over the splice. I also didn't realise they were suited to different sized diameter ropes. I think I might get one with just a big ring. Cheers
  13. Hi All I'm looking at getting a bouy and clip setup to help pull the anchor up and found a fairly cheap second hand one. Just wondering if anyone has used one of these and if I spliced 2 ropes together would it slide through ok? Cheers
  14. I couldn't even clean my fish there, no where to park after pulling the boat in, ha ha. Might park up for a few weeks and do a bit of work on the boat.
  15. Your not wrong mate. Not sure if half of them should be allowed out there or if they have licenses. Watching some as we were trying to get back in, 1 bloke didn't even know how to get his jet ski off the trailer, that took about 1/2 hr another bloke parked his massive battle ship( as we called it) right it the reverse bay and he decided to go have a picnic with his family, leaving his big setup shutting down a 3rd of the ramp, talk about frustrating
  16. Hi Baz I normally go into hibernation this time of year but thought I'd give it a go. Like you I think I'll park up for a couple of weeks. I got them in about 55-60m. Good eating too.
  17. Hi All Decided to go for an early fish boxing day taking out dad as he came down for a few days. We were greated with my normal luck of a strong NE wind blowing. Decided to tough the slop and chop and head out, ended up finding a few perlies, 1 trag and 1 mowy. It was a bit hard going but happy with my PB pearly 52cm. Came back in only to find chaos at the ramp. It was amazing to see how many inconsiderate people can all be in the same place at once, anyway got out of there as quick as I could.
  18. Hi mate I normally go out in the boat up there but have caught some good fish in the river up a bit from the tavern towards the entrance, some spots you can park right next to the water. Also as you go over the Jerseyville bridge turn right up a dirt road, a few kms up there's some easy to fish spots. I have just used small sinker running straight down to the hook, fish as light as you can around tide changes. I've had most luck on live nippers if you can get them. Got a few Flathead using soft plastics walking low tide just up from the boat ramp at the river. Hope this helps
  19. Thanks mate, there were some frustrating moments but very happy in the end. Glad I acted before having a trailer failure, very easy to put off these jobs.
  20. Cheers mate, yeah I stuffed that one up. First time I've used flux core wire and cheap welder posed a few challenges and curse words
  21. Hi All I decided to take on the trailer repair that I've been putting off for some time. The 2 cross members were rusting through on the bends on the RHS. I started seeing day light through them in one spot so i thought I better get on to it. After grinding the welds off and smashing them off with a hammer the rusted holes opened right up and a fair amount of rusted steel came out indicating how bad of shape they were in. Good thing I decided to take it on before they snapped. Initially I was put off by the thought of removing the boat from the trailer onto the grass, but it turned out to be fairly easy for just me and the wife. In the end I put the boat on and back off again by myself as the bunks were not in the correct position due to the cross members being slightly different and the bolt on brackets no suiting the bend in the RHS. In the end i cut off the u shaped bit from the bracket and welding it directly to the cross member. I had some trouble with the el cheapo mig I borrowed doing my vertical welds due to it only having 2 settings and wire feed all over the place but by my last weld I had it sorted ( a good tradesman never blames his tools, Ha Ha). All in all very happy with the end result and gave it 1 under coat, 2 top coats, tectyle on the welds and fish oiled over the top so hop that keeps the rust away.
  22. Nice one mate? cant wait to get back and have a flick, just need to fit some trailer repairs in as well, got a couple of weeks off before I start the new job
  23. not wrong Rick those Pearlies went alright on the bbq. Crumbled up the pig fish fillets for the kids and pretty good too.
