  1. Yeah I know, I blamed my brothers hooks I used or was it early catch and release, ha ha
  2. Nice squid mate, you don't need too many for a feed when there that size
  3. Yeah I'd say a big ray. I've hooked big ones off breakwall before and you cant stop them. They will suck back down onto the bottom as well and will feel like its snagged up. I recently saw someone hook what I assume was one in Swansea channel. The fight started about 200m from the bridge and it dragged the small tinny into the bridge, I don't know how the didn't sink as the boat was bashing off the pilons with a big tide running, they backed out with the water lapping about inch under the top of the boat, they were lucky and only lost the ray as it rubbed on the bridge otherwise it would have towed them for miles
  4. Headed up the coast to catch up with the family hoping to head outside for a fish but wasn't looking too good with the size of the swell forecast and the challenge of crossing the bar. It was great to see the 5-8 foot seas never came and the bar was like glass going out on the rising tide. We hit a headland straight up for some tailor but it was still a bit too dark so hit the kelp grounds hoping to get some big reds on plastics. With no wind there was no drift so gave up on the plastics and flicked some unweighted baits. Ended up with 2 small reds. Moved around a lot to different spots and managed to pick up 1 or 2 fish each move. Dropped one good snapper ,haha "the one that got away" Good day out in the end, looking forwarded to chewing on the pearlies.
  5. Nice one mate, he would have been happy with that 👍
  6. Hi mate, straight out to the gravel you will normally catch a feed of flatties, your boat will get there safely on days like you just mentioned. Lake macquire marine rescue web site has gps marks on there plus a lot more. The paternosta rig is all you need out there or you could try some different techniques.
  7. Finished product. Baked fish with secret herbs and spices, duck fat roasted potatoes and brocolini
  8. That water was so clear @Scratchie which your right it didn't help our cause. The weather man got it wrong again, it blew a bit earlier then dropped off. I thought with the swell last week and overcast conditions would have been prime conditions, but "beats working"
  9. Good bit of Bush mechanics with the nav light repair @Berleyguts I wasn't sure it was you either until Scatchie messaged woodsy, but good to see you out again👍
  10. Hi All The weather was looking the goods so organised a trip with @Woodsy1 with the plan to target some snapper on plastics up around broughton. We went out nice and early hit the bait grounds hoping to fill the tank. We were optimistic as there was a lot of garfish cruising around. The bait collecting was a bit slow but we managed to find a school of slimies and got a few before the sun came up. We got to our first drift finding the conditions ideal for the direction we wanted to go. My goal today was to catch a snapper on plastics and it wasn't long before I hooked into what felt like a decent size one only to pull the hook after a couple of runs. I think now looking back I should have set the hook more( rookie mistake). The live slimey went off as well but didnt hook up, it came back chewed up, so not sure what hit it. Things were looking good but went quiet with only a couple of bites afterwards. We tried a few more spots and swapped to baits and both got a little snapper each to finished the day off. We came across @Berleyguts Out there but not sure how he went. A big thanks and happy birthday to @Woodsy1 for the trip out there.
  11. Good to hear you finally got the boat fixed mate and found a few fish on your first trip back out there. Hopefully the weather plays the game and I can hit broughton soon, always seems to blow when I have days off.
  12. Nice one fellas Bit of sashimi for a while👍
  13. Probably lucky you didn't go fishing Baz. You would have been stuffed driving down there and back.
  14. Hope you get to go out mate and maybe get another one of those long tails👍
  15. I won't be up at diggers tonight everyone. Hope you have a few drinks to re hydrate and I'm sure there will be a few good stories told👍
  16. Thanks for a great day Scratchie. It was good meeting some top people, we didnt get that memorable catch but thats fishing. You put a lot of effort in to make sure everyone felt welcome and had the best chance of getting amongst a few fish. Looking forward to the next catchup. Big thanks to Blaxland for taking me out on his boat👍, only drama now is, I want a bar crusher, ha ha.
  17. I guess you get to keep the plastics👍
  18. I've been making up a few berley blocks as well, bought an old blender and been blending up all old bait and freezing
  19. Think I might keep those squid heads for those nice snapper we will get in 2 weeks time👍
  20. Decided to go out to lake macquarie as I heard there was a few tailor getting around, but I didn't know if the recent rain and fresh water influx would effect the fishing. We didn't see much action in the lake so headed out to moon island. There were a few boats at the bridge hooking into salmon but we couldn't raise one. Got out to the island and spun up a couple of nice tailor, 1 big salmon and a few green eyes to finish up. Great arvo out, nice and calm, dolphins and whales jumping, beats sitting in front of the tv😀
  21. I find even a week out the weather and wind forecast changes many times. Hopefully it will for us👍
  22. Thanks mate I'll give that knot a go. Hoping to hit broughton this Monday but I think the westerly is going to be blowing hard. I might have a bit of an explore down past fingal if it is.
  23. Hi Jeff, Just wondering how long you normally have your leader and knot you use. Cheers
  24. I'm stocking up as well Rick 👍
