  1. Good points you make Iceman. The area you are fishing and matching the SP to suit is a very important consideration - I must be honest and say that I don't generally consider the variation of lures in a range of fishing spots. This is part of what I need to develop to take the next step in my development as an SP fisho. Thanks all members who have to date, and will so do in future, for their input and comments. I still find that SP fishing has many areas that need to be explored in order to increase the hook-up rate and convert more hits into fish. This is something that I feel as though I am far from mastering. An example - I had a 2 hour morning session around Putney on Tue morning just gone - I had probably 12 great hits (only counting hits that felt like better quality Bream, Whiting and Flathead) during the session BUT only landed 1x 28cm ish bream and 1x 30cmish Bream. I left some quality takes out there. Need to stop this from occuring.
  2. I have been asked to be in Singleton on Sunday night for a 2 day business trip next week. My plan is to fish the Entrance or somewhere close by on Sunday aropund 2pm till 5pm then head off to Singleton. See how it pans out. I will say hello if anyone is still about at that time. Pain in the backside - I was planning to be there 6am. Ignore that rush of blood . I just realised that the Sunday is the 29.04.07 - I can make it at 6am YEEEEEHAAAAAA Lookin forward to the Social
  3. Fishos, Thought I would put up a post asking what people have found still working regularly at the moment. I fish alot land based and have found that 6" Sandworms cut in half (either Camo or Natural) are a good alround lure for the regular species - Flathead, Bream, Whiting BUT unfortunately Chopper Tailor also love them. I have been using 2" Shrimp , Bass Minnows (Pumpkinseed) and Gulp 3" Minnows (Pumpkinseed or Watermelon) as alternative lures. I seem to be fishing too much Sandworms at the moment and when I rig anything else in my armoury I find that I don't feel as confident. Am I spending too much time with Sandworms ? Has anyone found an alternative to Sandworms that has worked regularly for them - with a high success rate on decent sized fish ? All feedback welcome on this thread.
  4. Great report guys - bad luck landing a large Jew but good to see a Jew landed as well as a hammerhead. A little birdy told me that you landed a Flathead (50cm ish) as well - what size did the lizard go ? Sounds like a good night out with good company allround. Thanks for the report and pics.
  5. Nice session Iceman. I hit the Shoalhaven on Friday morning and dodging the wind and rain ended up with 1x 33cm Bream, 1x 45cm Lizard and 1x 38cm Lizard. Got back to a quite little ramp off Broughton Creek and as we packed up the boat we were confronted by Fisheries who asked to see our catch and licenses. I have held 3x 1 year licenses and this current one was renewed Thursday night @ 7pm ready for the Friday morning session and this was the first time me and my old man had ever came across fisheries.
  6. Heading down to Shoalhaven Heads on Thu night for an Easter fish Friday. Saw the post with the wind and weather forecast - unfortunately Friday looks the worst day of all. I have limited access as a result of commitments so I will be on the water Friday in the parents tinny. How is the Shoalhaven River / Greenwell Point fishing at present ?. SP's will be my plan of attack - There will be at least 1x Bait fisho on board. What has been biting and where ? Any Jews / Decent Flatties around ? It was last Easter (2006) when I landed a 6kG Jew on a 3" Gulp Fry Land Based in the Shoalhaven River Can History repeat itself ? A reply and or PM from any South Coast locals or fishos that have been on the Shaolhaven River recently as to what can be expected would be much appreciated. Good Luck to all fishing over the Easter Break.
  7. I was hoping to get a PM or reply from anyone with local knowledge of the Georges River. I am looking to hit the Georges River - land based with SP's for a handful of 5am till 8am morning sessions and was hoping that I can be pointed in the right direction. My general thoughts were around the Milperra Bridge area but will travel to somewhere nearby that is productive. I have heard that the M5 brodge can be fished but is this accessible by road for land based spinning. Any advice that is of use would be greatly appreciated - the Georges River system is a new one to me.
  8. I was thinking of taking a run to LCR Fig Tree Bridge late arvo this Sat 24.02.07. Havent been there for a while. has anyone been pulling some decent Lizards or Bream or Jew from the area in recent weeks. How heavy do you guys fish SP's there and waht is a key SP for the area ?. Any help and updates much appreciated.
  9. Shit that sounds like the same Greyhound that I have been backing for the last 10 years. Might be best to switch to the horses.
  10. Looks like it was another first class fishraider social. Congratulations to all attendees and a great time had by all no doubt. Sorry to miss the day but I am doin it a little tought at present with the home front. Anyway catch up on the next event. These days are what makes the Fishraider site and associated members such a fabulous group to be part of. Amazing pictures and very good in depth reports.
  11. Took the bigger flathead on a 3" Gulp Minnow Grub in Watermelon.
  12. Went for a late arvo 2 hour session yesterday with the 8 year old son. We were heading to IC but made a slight detour and fished Balmain not far from the Dawn Fraser pool (Just looking at the UBD and starting to hit some areas that I have never fished - trial and error). Between us we managed 4x flatties with 1 nice 58cm specimen that was very fat and in great condition. Caught 3 or so Chopper Tailor (dont ya hate that) amongst the Lizards. Good to get out and hit a new spot - and catch a decent fish. Nice way to spend a Sunday arvo.
  13. Hi all, I have tried to PM / email a Fishraider member up Swansea way but no luck. I am heading up to Swansea (near Newcastle) on Lake Macquarie for a camping trip this weekend 5,6 & 7 Jan 2007. As usual, I will have a flick stick and SPs on board. I have bait fished the Swansea channel on the rocks (near the road bridge) a few years back but never thrown any SP's around this area. Is there any hints or advice that a local may be able to pass on. I have a car but will be land based. Mainly targeting Bream, Flathead, Whiting and Jew if there are any opportunities. Any help by reply or PM much appreciated.
  14. Put me down for this one. Call me a boater and I will confirm deckie(s) in due course. Never fished the area - what is the best launching ramp - I will be in a 5M tinnie with 25HP outboard.
  15. Thanks all for another very well organised fishraider social. Alot of people put in an enormous amount of work to make these days possible and I dont want to name individauls for fear of leaving someone out but to all concerned I for one do recognise the efforts and it is this group effort that makes the Fishraider site number 1. Conditions were tough and some areas we had earmarked were not practical to fish. So we put plan B in place and headed up toward woronora for a few drifts. Fishing was tough and only managed 5x flatties (biggest was mid 30cm), 2x bream, 1x small reddie and 1x reasonable reddie between the group of 3. Would have liked to hang around longer at the park but had a broken window to attend to at home after some "power cleaning from the ". The photos are excellent. Congrats to all prize winners and well done Fishrunner on the 88cm specimen. Those underwater shots are truly spectacular. See everyone at the next get together.
  16. Great thread fellas and one that I dont think will ever be resolved as which is best. I am an average SP fisho and have been flicking them about for almost 2 years. In that time my highlights are 2x 60cm Flatties (1 taken in the fast moving surf & 1x taken in a still bay), a 6kG Jewfish, 1kG Trevally, 36cm Whiting & 38cm Bream. As you can see I have not broken any records here BUT all fish have been taken land based in Parra river, Lane Cove river & shoalhaven river. I am not saying that with bait I may not have landed the same or better BUT I do beleive after playing around and keeping an open mind and getting technique worked out SP's will catch high quality fish. In the early days I would go out and catch maybe 1 fish or donut during a 2 hour session. These days I still have the odd quiet session BUT generally will manage at least 4 fish usually mixed species of Bream and Flathead. Anyway great thread and one which will no doubt bring out more feedback. Cant wait to get out and about in the parents tinny over XMAS and into the future.
  17. New2fish & ianoc69 will be in our family 5M tinnie. Never boat fished Botany Bay so fingers crossed we can find a decent patch of lizards. I know there are some thumpers in there - just hope we can find them.
  18. Thanks for the reply and comments. I have a pic of the odd fish on the phone and will try and get it uploaded to PC (unfortuantely no Bluetooth or Infared on PC). I agree, the next trip will be a good chance to further investigate and refine the fishing spots. As has been stated many times a bad days fishin beats a good day workin.
  19. I would love to be put down as a Deckie for the social. Love chassin the Lizards.
  20. Further to some earlier assistance from members I ventured to Yamba for the last week of the school holidays. With the and 4x kids on board it made fishing time a little difficult and thus I got out every morning 5am till 8am ish. Tried throwing numerous Gulp minnows + Fry + Sandworms, Squidgies and Bass Minnows around rotating between Whiting Beach, Oyster Channel & Palmers Island. Landed a mixed bag of small flatties (just legal) 1x 30cm Bream, small Whiting and 1x 35cm ish Green back toothy fish species that I am yet to identify. Had my chance on the second morning off the rocks at the Oyster Channel to land my second Jew on SP's when a 4 or so minute wrestle with what I would call a 6-8kG Jew took a Gary Glitter Squidgie on a 1/8th Jig Head and after a few runs into the open (away from Bridge Pylons) it turned towards the bridge and the ping was heard close to the ending stages of the battle. Didnt help when I retirned 2 mornings later and fished the other side of the bridge only to see a SP fisho turn up in his boat and work the same pylons landing a 99cm (estimated at 9kG) Jew on a Wriggle Tail lure. Tries to tee up a morning session with a guide to catch and release some large female flathead that had been around in the more secret locations but the guide has TV commitments with Brisbane and my availability was limited in the last days of my trip. Still a great place and I hope to get back and fish the rockwalls and hire a boat and head up the Clarence to find some more spots that I am told are very productive. Anyway that is fishing and we live and learn from our mistakes. PS - Back home and looking to hit a couple of local spots - any updates as to the fishing scene locally ie. Parra River Land Based.
  21. I will drop in about 6.15pm for a look and to meet a few raiders. Living at St Clair (5 mins away) this is a close store so will be interested in checking out what gear is carried.
  22. Thanks Buster 1. I wish you all the success in finding some nice fish during your stay. Fingers crossed that you get / find some good spots. I hope you can share them in detail after your visit.
  23. I am booked for a 7 night stay in Yamba, NSW on the Clarence River for October 8th through 16th. Can anybody PM or reply with any tips or help as to land based SP fishing in the area. I would like to take a flcik stick and some lures along to head out for a few early morning and late arvo sessions during my stay. What are the best target species in the area and if there is any tips on lure selection it would be greatly appreciated. Never been there or stayed there before.
  24. Great fun little session. I was there last week for a 2 hour morning session 6-8am on the bar @ dead low tide. Managed a small lizard, a chopper tailor and got dusted on a 6lb leader after a 2 minute battle - felt like a decent bream. Keep pluggin away - the bream will respond - in between working the lure eratically make sure you pause and let the lure sit on the bottom - I have found that bream will smash it on the drop after a cast OR hit it soon after the lure sits stationary following a rod lift / jerk. I am no bream expert by any means but seem to manage my fair share of them when out fishing.
