  1. Im in for a Jew Social - as a non boater. I have managed 1 only 6kG specimen to date - now that I have had a taste I am keeeeen for more. I am flexible and can fit in with a nominated time / date.
  2. Careful with Banjos. I worked with a Gent once upon a time who made reference to Banjo players and a movie called Deliverance - I have never seen the flick BUT from what it sounds like I would be best to stay away from Banjo playing. DADALANG..DANG...DANG...DANG...DANG..DANG..DANG
  3. After a 4 week lay-off (due to cold weather and World Cup) I managed to get up this morning and fit in a 1.5hr session at Bayview land based. Managed to find 1x Bream 33cm (fork), 1x Bream 36cm (fork) & 1x chopper tailor. 36cm fish took a Gulp Fry & the 33cm fish took a Bass Pro triple swirl grub. Took some shots on the mobile phone camera but no blue tooth on PC to download. Good to get back out and hold a rod again - looking forward to the social Sunday and then get out for regular morning land based sessions again. Sorry for the error - the Social on Sunday is not with Fishraider.
  4. welcome to the site - there is a great bunch of members here that will be of enormous assistance. The site works very well for those who give and take / share experiences and operate with a fair and common sense approach. I was interested when I saw Shoalhaven in your post. I am new to the Shoalhaven River and will be geeting down there a handful of times a year from now on as the parents have just set up a 5M tinnie. May ask you for some local knowledge on the ins and outs of the river - keep watch for the odd PM from me in future. Best of fishing to you and hope to see you post some nice fish in the future.
  5. Saga, It is refreshing to see high quality gear at affordable prices. The wormanship has been commented previously and from all photographs it looks first class. Hopefully the day is not too far away when you can leave the day job and go full time branching out. PS - Thanks for your repair support - see ya later today
  6. I was hoping I could get some advice on a couple of land based spots with a lower tide. I generally fish IC, Hen & Chicken and Putney with a mid to fuller tide BUT when the tide is lower than mid I find I am limited to Fig Tree only. Has anyone worked a lower tide area that they might share with me by PM or reply. Main reason for asking is I was looking at a 6am till 8am session tomorrow morning and notice a Low Tide at 5am ish. If interested we can meet and fish the spot together. The plan is as follows:- * Wed morn session 6am till 8am * Wed Night - Boxing grudge match Mundine V Green * Thu morn 4.30am soccer - Barcelona V Arsenal * Thu Night - If I am still married I will say hello to the missus Any help would be much appreciated.
  7. Hey Raiders, Had a 2 hour early morn session at Hen and Chicken Bay today to see if I could manage a fish or two as the cooler weather approaches. Managed 3x Bream (20cm, 26cm & 30cm), 2x small Lizards (20cm & 28cm) & 1x Chopper Tailor (25cm) Dropped 1x nice Lizard (looked to be easily 65cm) and hence learnt a lesson. Actually learnt a couple of lessons as I Paid attention to a couple of the finer points today - these are leasons that I should know by now. Lesson 1 Regularly check leaders / knots / Jig Heads / Reel Drag settings (re-tie and adjust as necessary)After landing the 30cm Bream I had a slightly tight drag setting on the reel and worn leader. I was able to land the bream BUT 30mins later I dropped the large Lizard 2 metres from shore as it turned and ran (snapped clean of above the Jig Head Loop knot . Lesson 2 Don't stick to your fav SP's for a long period of time and neglect the rest of your arsenal. I managed the 30cm Bream and dropped the large lizard on 3" and 4" bass minnows respectively. It was the first time in approx 5 months that I have used a Bass Minnow as my concentration has been with Gulp Fry, Sandworms and Grubs. Anyway always learning and love getting out and flicking lures around to see what can be enticed. Sorry No Pics All fish released. Great way to start the day - shame work gets in the way from 9am.
  8. Swordy, With my birthday on 20.04.06 and yours today 21.04.06 it must have been a great time of year. The moons and tides and barometric pressure all came together to create 2x wonderful specimens ...................... then you and I were created Have a great day and if you are wetting a line I hope there is something special that comes in on the end of it.
  9. Thanks all. I like to put back info where and when I can. There are so many posts that help out on this site and people always willing to point in the right direction on any number of issues. I would not be where I am today without many hours of support and reading on the Fishraider site. I do not consider myself to be a gun fisho BUT I am respectful of those willing to help and always willing to put back into the site to maybe help others. I do hope there are many more good fish of all species to come.
  10. Where do I begin. After plugging away fishing on average 2 early morning sessions a week in Sydney, occassionally Central Coast, Bermagui and Shoalhaven Heads using SP's and the odd Hard Body I have managed to pick-up the odd nice Flathead (my largest to date 60cm) and Bream (my largest to date 38cm overall) and every so often something unusual such as Leatherjacket, Trevally (my largest 1kG to date) etc. Then you read posts on Fishraider and learn a little, share a little, try a little before some mixed success comes your way. A good session is followed by an average one and just when you are feeling steady progress a doughnut session hits you and you are back to square one. Anyway, sorry for rambling on BUT on Easter Saturday I ventured out for a 5.45am start planning a 2 hour session Land Based in the Shoalhaven River using SP's. On the 4th cast I managed a small Flathead (just undersized) and after returning him to the water I flicked a Berkley Gulp Fry in Pumpkinseed out into a local creek adjacent to bridge structure (time was estimated as approx 6am) on a trusty 1/16th Jig Head using a 6'6" Rack Raider Rod and Stradic 1500F Reel spooled with 6lb Fireline and 8lb Flurocarbon leader. 2nd lift I came up solid on a fish that I immeadiately knew was of good size. I had called it for a Flathead with a feeling of some early headshakes (in the passed 6 months I have dropped 2x Flathead within 1 metre of th shoreline that easily looked 82cm in length) and after a few good runs and some great help from a wonderful drag setting on the reel I landed my first ever Jew (see pic herein) . It measured 82cm in Length and Weighed 6kG and was in great condition. Now I have spent many a day catch and release BUT today this fella was taken for the table. I was so pumped when I slid this baby up onto the bank that I ended my session at 6.10am and headed back to the caravan park to show off this catch with my 4x children and wife . After managing to wake the family I was aided by my lovely wife whom took a few shots for my memories. I was also aided by a great local fisherman whom has vast experiences in tournament fishing throught NSW and NZ whom lives in the caravan park and was able to show me the fine art of cleaning and filleting as well as alert me to a few tips on eating habits and sharing a wealth of general fishing knowledge. This was also considered an early Birthday prsent as I turn 35 on April 20 2006. I would like to submit her for fish of the month, even though there are a couple of nice April posts already up. To all those whom have caught Jew, chased Jew or thought about Jew I now know the feeling and consider myself a new member to the club. Does Lure fishing get any better than that - Long Live SP's and Hard Body Lures - I am an eternal convert.
  11. I am heading to shoalhaven heads Thu, Fri & Sat. Then heading down Bermagui way Sun, Mon. Anyone heard how Shoalhaven Heads and Bermagui River have been fishin lately ?
  12. Great report and good session. I have used both SX40 (when I can afford to buy them) and Smiling Jack with success on each. A couple of fishos, on the parra, mid week, without crowds, gambling on 6 packs of JD's over who can catch the most, with soft plastics and hard bodies - DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT .
  13. Had a flick this morning with Outdoordan at IC. Between us we managed many lizards in the 30-40cm range - Dan managed the majority of the fish. As it closed in on 8am I was having my last couple of casts with a 2" atomic grub in Motor Oil (with garlic scent) and hooked up to a 38cm (overall) Bream which basically equals my PB taken in the Parra River on a social in Dec 2005. The fish gave a jump and splash (very bass like) as it was hooked and then proceeded to become very lazy all the way in (almost flathead feeling) staying low and deep in the water until it was within 1 metre of the land when it took a run and pulled a bit of drag. Funny that I have caught bream in the mid 20cm range that have peeled drag with numerous runs. I also took note that a couple of mid 30cm specimens that I have taken seem to jump soon after being hooked - almost mullet like. I took a shot with the camera phone - didnt do it much justice but I will try and get it on the PC in the next couple of days and post it. All in all it was a great session and looking forward to the next outing.
  14. Mick, I will be there this Thursday night 9/3/06 - had leaking coolant from 2x hoses in car last thursday - spent till 10pm repairing Is the deal still running - buy 2x gulps and get a pack of jigheads free ? I am after a pack of Fry in Pumkinseed & a pack of sandworms + 1/16 TT jig heads. I am also looking at picking up another SX40F - what number / colour would you recommend as a must carry for bream and flathead ? PM or reply appreciated. See ya tomorrow night.
  15. Thanks all for a great day. Well organised and extremelly well run. Cant thank mrsswordfisherman for a woderful breakfast (albeit we were a bit late - sorry) Thanks swordfisherman for the tips and wealth of knowledge. I agree with that hard body tip and am on your side as to the quality. I beleive you may have got half of it back with front trebles - I wiould have like to seen the tailor (or whatever) that decided to chop it clean in half - now that is a serious set of teeth. Can t wait to catch up again and wet another line. Always keen to learn and meet new people.
  16. MickR, I will see ya on Thursday night about 7.30pm.
  17. Just a note that outdoordan and myself will be at fig tree bridge on sat morn around 5.30am till 9am ish. Hope to catch up and say hi
  18. Good stuff Dan. Know the feeling well and as always they give a great account of themselves. Hope we can hook some together - me being the bad luck charm and all
  19. Awesome fun - as always to have a flick Great company with Dan and the T curve - magic bit of gear Dont worry mate the bream will come very soon and fingers crossed very BIG Cant wait to catch up again for another session
  20. Yeah it was catch n release. All of my morning sessions are catch n release - good for working on technique etc. Although being forced to have a fishing license is frustrating when we are told that fish are unsuitable for eating in the harbour, parra etc. Every so often it is nice to have the opportubity to take home a catch for the pan.
  21. I will be there with the family. Not a good idea to take the rod - although tempting - as the (she who must be obeyed) will not approve. I will definately wander over and check it out and hopefully identify and say hello to any raiders present
  22. Had a 1.5 hour session at Putney Park this morning and managed a mix of small to medium bream and baby Lizards but the highlight was a 35cm Whiting on a Berkley 2" Grub. PB for me - actually it is my first whiting on SP's and saves me the embarrasment of my 10yo son whom caught 2x Whiting on SP's recently at LCR. Gave a good account of itself. Not quite big enough to beat Kens 40cm record but a personal pleasure in any case
  23. I took a photo with my camera phone. Will attempt to get it to PC in the near future
  24. Had a session at IC this morning and managed 1x Lizard 35cm and a Mullet 35cm. Was wrapped with Mullet - My first on SP's. Both fish took a Softie.
  25. Getting a little low on SP's and Jig Heads after my week in Shoalhaven Heads. Went out on a boat for a session with 3x bait fishos and me with the SP's. I managed most keeper lizards with 2nd and 3rd biggest fish - 2x solid (45 & 50cm) lizards. Biggest lizard went 55cm (bait fisho). Got a feed with 10 in total between the 4 of us ranging 35cm - 55cm. Anyway back in Sydney for a land based crack at IC this morning 9/1/06 for the first 2006 session. Arrived 6.30am and had a few showers during the session which finished at 7.45am. Managed a baby 30cm lizard early in the session on a tructy poo eater then delving through the SP collection I dusted off a softie that I had not swam for a while and produced a solid 57cm lizard taken in close 2M from shore. Fish was in very good condition - broad across the back. Sorry NO Pics - Phone Camera battery was flat and did not have phone on boat. Can't wait to visit the tackle store and re-stock on SP's and Jig Heads. PS - How has the Lane Cove (Fig Tree) been fishing for lizards - is there any plans for a Jan 2006 early morning social.
