  1. Well done, good looking fish.
  2. I don't have as much experience in this area with boating but from 15 years of military and back country experience I always carry paper maps and a compass. I laminate my own using one of the cheapo laminators from office supply shops but I also have a purpose made map pouch that works great. The pouch is air and watertight so it even floats as long as you don't squeeze 100% of the air out when you seal it.
  3. Nice job Where/how were you fishing at Swansea if you don't mind sharing?
  4. Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll be sure to report back how I go.
  5. Yes on both counts. The flatties especially like the border of weed and sand, and they'll hit the surface lures too. Anything more than ankle deep should be fair game.
  6. Bassday Sugapen Daiwa Double Clutch Berkeley Prawn Dog Good for Flathead, Whiting, Bream, can pick up other predators such as Trevally. On YouTube, Sand Flat Fishing has heaps of videos on the exact type of fishing you're describing.
  7. I wish I could get on board with a total ban on Jet skis, but I don't think it's fair to those who are doing the right thing. I've done some Jet ski riding myself and had a ball (without bothering or endangering anyone). To me it seems a bit like banning all fishing because some people leave old mono in the water that kills fish or leave fish offal laying around and the smell puts off swimmers, or some dickhead puts out a bunch of illegal traps. I think if we want the water to be shared with us we also need to be willing to share the water with others. Having said all that, f*#% the retards who ruin my fishing on their Jet skis! Fine the motherloving dickens out of them and finance better safety and courtesy education (and another officer to fine the rest of the bastards).
  8. I've seen the rear treble replaced with assist hooks, I think it was also Sand Flat Fishing on YT, (referenced by damos earlier). Might help with the swallowing.
  9. Hi guys, I've been thinking about trying wading in shallows for bream, whiting and flathead. The problem is most everywhere I've had a look is too muddy and soft to really do it. Is there anywhere I might be able to go for this?
  10. What a fantastic fish and report. Thanks for sharing!
  11. @antonywardle I just picked up a new Snapper rod I'd be happy to endanger. No worries on the late notice, there's always another day for fishing. Trips sound fantastic, congrats in all your new catches. ?
  12. I use the method in the 2nd video. Knots hold really well. If you haven't tied it right it easily pulls apart by hand. If you've done it right you will cut yourself or snap the line before the knot loosens. I also find I run out of leader before the knot needs re-tying.
  13. South side of the channel along the path inland of the bridge, also South side out along the breakwall near the inlet.
  14. Not sure if this is helpful but certainly interesting. I think I came across this from another Raider, so I thought I'd share it here. http://www.paulusjustfishing.com/4linetestingbuy.htm
  15. Wow what a monster! Good job team
  16. Had rough luck at Swansea. Tiny bream only and lots of trouble with snags. Any tips?
  17. I've fished pieces of squid on hooks there, just enough lead to get it to sink a bit. Could hardly keep it baited.
  18. @antonywardle I'm keen, and my wife loved the mullet from our last trip. I'll PM you to organise a time
  19. I have a 6ft and 8ft rod and even the 8ft can sometimes be a little short for rock fishing because you can't always be right at th edge of the water from the rocks. A short rod with light line on the rocks is a recipe for lots of broken line, lost tackle and lost fish. Also bear in mind that every time the line breaks while fighting a fish, the fish then is stuck swimming around with a hook or lure and line stuck in it's mouth, which I don't think is very humane. I'd rather have a fish ignore a heavier line than break me off on lighter line. For the lightness factor you're after, just remember that you will have to compromise, especially if you don't want to spend hundreds on the rod. Find a few of the right length that fit the line rating and cast weight you're after, and hold each one in your hand. Give them a good shake and see how they feel. Point each one straight up and then lower it to horizontal and then back to vertical. Once you've done that with a few rods, you should have one that feels right.
  20. Swansea is a likely good bet for most things because it's a bottleneck between the ocean and Lake Macquarie. I've seen videos of slide baiting for Kings, might be something to try. The current can be challenging and it's quite snaggy in places there. I've lost tackle and pulled in other people's lost tackle there a lot.
