  1. 20-25 wraps normally man Ive never had one slip before but I wouldnt go any less, if the knot slips its probably not wrapped tight enough or the tag ends slip from the lock knots/grannys. I moisten and tighten by hand wrapped in a cloth but a fish will do the rest
  2. This guy really explains clearly and well and is my preferred method. If you want something a little quicker heres another method that may be easier
  3. Fg knots all the way! You want to make sure you can learn to tie these quick fast as it can be a killer when your mates are hooking up and your trying to fumble around doing 20 wraps Ive personally never had a Fg break at all , as long as you tie your three half hitches around the tag and mono to lock it all in it should never slip! But i always retie after a session especially if on the Kings!
  4. have used a Mercury Pro Xs 150 and had no worries whatsoever , the motor only had about 100hours on her but was really good for fuel not a guzzler like the old yama , it was defiantely a little loud on the idle and likes to be run in the higher rpm but solid motor and pretty cheap for what they are, i think the 4stroke model is actually a bit lighter too and a few hundred buckos less
  5. The carp are native China but spread to Europe and Asia , i believe they were introduced as early as the 1800's! The Mirrors are are beautiful fish and history tell us that they were originally bred in Asia by monksto have scales like this to be easier to prepare to eat one of the fastest growing fish in this family, and most record fish caught around Europe are mostly Mirrors and Common Carp. I spent alot of time chasing these guys but the hardest one to crack was actually the Grass Carp , this fish is the muscle of the carp as it loves turbulent water such as rivers and floodplane lakes and tends to be really lean and a stubborn fighter!
  6. Thats it brother i have an open top but am not a fan of unsealed reels at all, I run with Penn 950ss ,Slammer 3 and a Saltist you can dunk the whole reel and still wind (happeed a few times on the yak) then just wash them down with fresh water and thats it!
  7. Its always been a dynamite bait for me brother, it sounds daft but if you can find the biccys that have a wee hole in the middle theyre the easiest to throw on a hair rig...Cjay
  8. No rain jacket needed there brother haha! Howd you go with the cranka crab? Ive been using the Smash Crab lures for a while and the Jews seem to love em!
  9. That sounds awesome is there any events / comps coming up? would be keen to meet some Raiders for a good laugh and catch some beasties! Looks like the water is warming up your way too!
  10. hey brother, as a rule of thumb the multi is used for offshore applications; such as jigging to find fish at certain accurate depths (the colour changes every 10m or more depending on brand some at 25ft and some lines even have a really accurate black mark every 5m). If fishing multiple baits/lures from the boat its easier to see to stop line crosses and keep good spacing between lines, but theres no reason you cant use it from the stones/beach, in the same way you can work out how far your casting to find the fish. The fluoro yellow is great for visibility especially if fishing stickbaits or poppers as you can see your line lay on the surface and see current drift to avoid those nasty wind tangles thats how i would choose and if you go with the multi, if you ever head offshore you will have an edge over the other fellas using straight fluoro.. 11. Sounds interesting Brew, do you know what the socks are made of? If they are watertight they are surely going to make your feet warm! mybe a little sweaty but its better than cold feet on those long nights, cant beat a good flask of coffee to keep toasty too
  12. Soft Plastics have made a name for themselves in a huge way these days hey! so many to choose from i had to downsize my collection before the missus worked out how much i spent
  13. Good luck brother let us know how you go! Hope you have a few of those fellas as im not sure how durable they are after a few kings have had a chomp
  14. you can use some wire brother and feed it through the centre like you would with a squid skirt or try and line jig head up in there
  15. Theres just something about those elements that put you that little bit more into mother nature hey, i enjoy hitting the beach barefoot in Summer taking just a rain mac, boardshorts and a handful of lures firing slugs into the surf trying to take a cheeky Tailor home for dinner , and after all if you get a bit cold the waters normally warmer than the air temperature these parts

    Brown Trout

And returned to live on and prosper! This fish was probably around 15years old maybe even a little older judging by the size of his hook jaw. Your right there but there will definately be a few Lunkers in New England somewhere, just got to be ready to walk the kms! I used to average about 6 hours walking and stalking per day and seen many record breaking fish that just wont touch any sort of tackle ,their main diet is smaller brown and rainbow trout and thats it , I gutted another brown a bit smaller than this one for the cold smoker and he had three small brown trout in his belly! each a good six inches i couldnt believe he could even eat any more!
  17. haha my bad of course you had it covered! Have you guys ever had a large scale Raiders meeting? It would be epic to bring some Raiders together and get stuck into those Kingies down your way!
  18. One of the Longjaws from the old stomping grounds, cant beat stalking these old guys as theyve seen everything and grown smart, This fish was the result of two hours stalking and finally fell to a tiny dry wasp fly after throwing every size soft plastic and spoon i had right past his nose, he wouldnt even look at them twice then as soon as i get the fly rod out fist cast and....boom off he went for a thirty minute fight on light fly gear
  19. Hey Donna.. Thats great the old programmes still do their job and im a big fan of 'if it works dont fix it!' The trouble makers must keep you busy! Ive found there are alot of negative and unnecessary comments on other sites regarding Pbs of peoples fish and methods. These forums are meant to be a place to inspire and learn not for haters! An epic idea could be to incorporate some sort or swap and sell model for fishing tackle and/or boat accessories that people no longer want/use to pass onto a fellow Raider Tight Lines
  20. G'day Raiders! As we seem to be graced with the best weather for ducks for the next week, how do you guys and gals gear up for a wet session, and what target species do you chase? Rain ,sleet , hail or snow we have all been there at some point chasing fish with high spirits and crinkly fingers! Though you might not come lucky even with a tackle box half filled with water it all seems so worth it, after all you've got to be in it to win it! If you'd like to share some knowledge Throw in your tips and tricks and safety ideas whether fishing the slippery stones or ledges or stood on the wet deck offshore Thanks yall! Happy Fishing
  21. Hey guys coming from a fresh water background ive always used hessian bags with a drawstring and never had an issue (maybe just following Grandads footsteps and traditional applications) I cant see why it couldn't be used for salt applications i just like it due to the fact they dry fast and dont retain nasty moisture ; lightweight, cheap, you can double them up for added protection and if leaning the rod onto something acts as a nice cushion so you dont scrape your stick
  22. Hey Rick..I have actually left most of the other fishing forums around here due to lack of spirit and troll commentators/competitive know it alls who think their way is the only way jargon, I find this site actually has it all! Unfortunately im quite far from Sydney but would travel there in a heartbeat to arrange a trip with fellow Raiders! I usually fish solo which can be a bit sketchy sometimes when offshore alone or on the stones at night but sharing the experience is what its all about! After all everybody has heard ''it was this big but i dropped it at the boat'' so its nice to have a backup Raider Happy Fishing! Hopefully this rain will turn the breakwalls on, the bar here is practically impossible!
  23. Its good to see numbers rising too, ive had a few similar sizes and they all seem to sit in the same hole/area? I thought they were a bit more solitary when they get bigger?
  24. Poor guy it sadly sounds like he wasnt wearing a jacket either, underestimating lakes can cost you heavily, back in Nz theres been many accidents on the great lakes with bad conditions, its amazing how big the chop and waves can get out there, i think some people only associate waves with the ocean and also being land locked gives a false sense of security. Even the Pros that fish the lakes in wind/chop stick to the edges or dont go out at all. No fish is ever worth your life Raiders
  25. Nice chunky female caught around the harbor and returned safely, Never actually had a 'run' with one of these until now but it took the bait with a huge whack then the line went slack, as soon as i tightened up boom off she went peeling out 12lb mono like the baitrunner was on , also gave my fingers a good old chomp for the photo too but i think thats about fair right
