  1. I use the smallest strongest crane swivels that you can find and stay away from the cheapo brass ones , also leader material can cause those nasty tangles if it holds too much memory same goes with cheapo swivels that are too small and loose that dont rotate properly Alot of the Jew guns around the headlands here seem pretty consistent using the Schnieder Line in the 30-40lb classes and the bigger alveys 50lb due to its abrasion resistance against the rocks
  2. Hey guys! Solid effort on the site! The friendly vibe and active administrators make it second to none! Also the Raiders fish status with the rankings and badges for record holders is a sweet touch! The design and ability to post in specific areas is great and websites really easy too navigate . Cheers Raiders! Tight Lines!
  3. Hey guys awesome photo! Is there many Ballina based Raiders Raiders onsite would be keen for a buddy to chase some fish down
  4. Hey man I normally catch the Luderick further up the river towards the harbor , but ive also caught them in the wash too! Sorry for the confusion haha Blackfish aka Drummer ive heard them called both so i just call the Drummer Blackies or Pigs i guess! I usually pick Luderick up with a tiny piece of peeled prawn with the smallest sinker i can get away with and its the same with the Pigs ,but the Luderick seem to take more interest maybe due to the bait being on the bottom rather than a little higher in the water column under a float? Thats my two cents anyway
  5. Hey brother do you want to swap? I seem to always catch luderick when targeting blackfish haha, and believe it or not i catch more luderick on fresh peeled prawn than on green weed?!
  6. Dog biscuit on a Pop Up Snowman Rig
  7. Solid few carp there man nice and lean! If you see them topwater feeding they cant resist the old dog biscuits
  8. Hey brother you could always give Seal Rocks a crack its not too far form you and holds plenty of Snapper and everything inbetween!
  9. G'day Raiders! Im looking for a fellow salty seadog who is keen to get stuck into some toothy critters offshore! Currently based in Brunswick and more than happy to pay for fuel ,gear, bait and snacks (no bananas) Ive been off the tinnie for a while now due to a wrist injury (cant cross the bar safely) but would love to get out on the water in the next week or so, Can travel and WILL travel a large distance to get some tight lines! After all its always worth it! Happy Fishing!!
  10. Long Shanks with a small gape - for a fish with a tiny mouth, Red tubing and a couple of red beads then a red longshank hook can actually catch whiting with no bait! It imitates worms especially if its moving in the current, the same as the green straw and a bare hook for herring
  11. Amazing photo Rick part of history right there! Thats definately one to tell the grandkids about! What ligament would I have to use for bait for you to take me fishing sometime? Tightest Line!
  12. Bass aint too fussy brother! as long as they can see it they will usually take a swipe, surface lures can do the trick in coloured water or i personally have had good look with the pearl minnow soft plastics when its running abit dark! Tight Lines!
  13. Yeah thats funny you say that i read somewhere in a forum that one fisho bought the older versions of the spiderline and they were not even a touch as good as the latest batch :/
  14. The Old WD-40 debate! My two cents is that WD40 is used for pushing water/grime out of moving parts/mechanisms, so i can see how it can be used to spray down the exterior and maybe wash salt/sand residue but id never use it inside the housing! Much more a fan of Silicone based sprays (food standard so no pollution runoff into our waters) due to the fact they help restore the rubbers to stop them from drying or cracking and isnt too sticky If my reel was that bad i think id open her up wash her out with hot soapy water to get rid of all the sand/salt, clean her down and start from scratch , probably cheaper than sending it for a service at Shimano and if that fails looks like it time for a freshy!
  15. My advice for those Big Jew is timing and keep terminal rigs simple brother Live bait cant be beaten thats a fact, at least 20-30cm for the big fellas (tailor or poddy mullet/squid if its in your area), smallest sinker you can get away with, 1m mono trace 40lb and two snelled circle hooks size 4/0 Location - Any deep holes/back eddys on the run in and run out tide Tide- Hour before high and first hour of the runout- 1.8m tides and above seem to produce more fish in the estuaries especially if theres a bit of colour, tide changes around 'magic hour' sunset and also before sunrise can produce that larger specimen. I have sat for many cold nights on breakwalls and ledges with low quality baits from the servo just getting smashed baits by small peckers and wasting my money. As soon as i started catching live bait or using fresh not so live bait my hook up rate went straight up! As an old fisho said to me once ''Its your ability to catch the right bait that makes you a good Jew hunter'' and this is what i had to learn to crack the Jew code! Good Luck guys the weathers looking good the next few days so get stuck in!
  16. Hey Raiders! So its come time to respool the Penn 950 Spinfisher and im faced with the choice of these two widely used braided lines, Ive fished with PowerPro 50lb braid for while now and find that it casts like a dream (seems pretty round) , nice texture due to the teflon coating but I find that it seems to discolour quite fast and seems to break down (tiny fibres start to split off) within a few offshore trips. Each of these lines are gel-spun polyethylene, but PowerPro is made of "Spectra" fibers and the Spiderwire Stealth is "Micro Dyneema" , Ive heard the SpiderLine is meant to be the tightest spun line there is but ive never used it so i cant say Any reviews/recommendations would be a great! Tight Lines!
  17. beauty! nothing like a glassy day on the Lures

  20. The old stomping grounds in Nz never failed to put a smile on your face! Especially after stalking this old hook jaw for nearly three hours!

  21. The Orca Stickbaits are first class for the Kingies fellow Raider especially the black and silver 58gram always my go to lure, whether off the rocks or offshore Also heavy jigs work a treat too just make sure you tighten that drag when that hit comes you wanna stop those dirty fighters before they reach cover! plus the bonus of the jigs is if you dont hook up or if you drop the fish you can just keep the action going and find his friends! Tight Lines!
  22. epic man! all about using your initiative! Reminds me of when we used to spin up Kingies back in Nz using anything we could drill a hole in and slap some trebles on! Including small fish grips and even a filleting knife handle when the blade broke~
  23. Nice Mix Up with an Estuary Cobbler , watch out for the venemous barbs this fella nearly did me a mischief!
