  2. Thats the way good to stretch those boat legs now and again hey sounds like my trip yesterday mornin, spun the cape for two hours and lost one bonito at my feet but you got to be in it to win it right! Ive heard the Coffs beach fishes well at night for big Jew and Bronzies but yet to have a crack
  3. used to use these little fellas in Nz made from mylar on the whitebait run usually targeting Albacore/Sea Trout/Kings , normally used on the fly rod but have seen the old fellas use 3 of them set up like a jig/sabiki style
  4. She catches fish for an aquarium as a job? Where do i sign up haha

    Kingys

where is your location and what action are you using with the popper brother? try big sweeps with the rod when retrieving really get that topwater rippling Solid size eel but! how was the take?
  7. I think it probably got washed up from Julian Rocks would be my best bet
  8. I usually use the swivels when running live baits ,especially the yakkas they seem to love putting mad twists in the line without a swivel, any other plugs and lures applications and i only use the FG been seeing alot of Kings start to come into the river mouth up this way the past month or so too, which ive not seen in the 5 years ive lived up this way!
  9. I cant really find much to Id it on at all hey the guys from the Deep Sea fishing club here have no idea either , alot of juvy reef fish look hell different once they mature its just a shame this fella didnt make it , cant really tell you much Jon apart from it was about 20cm and washed up after the big NE swell , location Belongil Beach just up from Byron Bay at the Wreck
  10. It was washed up on the beach at Belongil in Byron Bay, ive even shown the guys at the dive shop and theyre not sure either?!
  11. Does anybody think that the Kingies would stay close to the nets due to being hand fed by the workers? I mean if they get fed everyday at the same time they surely know where to go? Just a thought..
  12. Thats it those big Kings do not mess about they get your heart pumping some! especially hitting a bait at high speed if that drags too low theres 100m gone before you can tighten up, hows the J braid treating you ive heard good things about it
  13. Dayum thats unlucky man , pretty surprised the Saragosa didnt handle it they have a 20kg drag dont they? Cant mess around with the kings brother they will find any weakness in your tackle and exploit it! What strength swivel /type are you using? Ball bearing high quality crane swivels are a must theyre not too cheap but they do the job
  14. Scratchie or Rickmarlin any ideas? I cant ID this fella for the life of me, even my dive buddy had no idea
  15. Found this little fella washed up after the big swells must have been dislodged from the near by reef
  16. covered all the points brother good read! Everyone has been there shouting at the sky when that big worm slips your grasp never to be seen again! I switched to the pliers after many hours managing maybe two or three worms a session, as soon as i used the pliers not one of the buggers got away! I might of taken a few half worms in the beginning but that part of the learning curve
  17. Give it a try and see how you go i guarantee its a bit more exciting! Nothing quite beats the feeling of free lining a skittish mullet/tailor at night and feeling them change direction then grow ten times bigger with the force of a freight train With the dead baits unfortunately all the pickers will have a good bash no matter the bait size, when using a bigger live bait theres no doubt when you get that screaming run The bigger fellas can have a good solid three separate runs in them before they come belly up, and even then they can have a few tricks up their sleeves!
  18. Top stuff Scratchie! Fishing with the family and passing on that knowledge! Everyone on the boat looks frothing your freezer must be getting full by now Tempted to make the journey down there and get stuck in!
  19. Some people have a preference to tag the mono with a lighter then tie the lock knots so theyre snug under the tag, a good friend in Nz swears by a drop of rubber adhesive on the knot just to smooth it out for casting those big king stickbaits
  20. Hey man hows it going! Sounds like your well on the way to cracking the code Mulloway can be very cautious when fishing with dead baits, they can mouth a bait and if they feel any resistance they will just drop it and move on, one method is to always hold the rod and as soon as you think theres something taking interest free spool some line to them so they can move off with it. Always use the smallest sinker you can get away with at last a good meter of leader to allow the bait to present itself nicely, then i run two snelled 4/0-7/0 suicides depending on the bait size. I only use livebaits or softplastics for Jew (Sps when i cant catch any live bait) Baits; Mullet, Tailor,Squid,Yakkas,Pike Fresh is best but Live is better! If you can get a solid size mullet or tailor (30cm or more) then your chances of picking up a Double figure Jew will greatly increase, the smaller poddy/finger mullet and smaller herring will normally interest the Soapies before the big fellas. Tides & Location; Usually the first hour of the run in, the high , and then the first hour of the drop is the best time to target out of river mouths as they wait for all the bait to be pushed past with the current, any deeper holes you can find with some slack current is a great starting point, they move from hole to hole whilst hunting. Once the tide hits high i remove the sinker and let the live baits swim out by free spooling, I always set my drag to fighting pressure and once that Jew hits they dont mess around and you want those hooks set properly so you have the stopping power , ive lost many solid fish with the bait runner engaged and leaving the rod in holders. Which results in a run but no fun! Alot of fishos swear by moon phases and atmo pressure and so on but ive honestly found it doesnt make much difference, ive caught double figure fish in the middle of the day and also blanked on supposed 'perfect conditions' . However i do think that any tides at the 1.8m or above mark seem to hold more fish in the rivers here maybe due to the bar being so shallow and the mullet all school up together in the harbor making them easy picking for bait As an old salty once said to me ' Your ability to catch Jewfish is your ability to catch the bait' Good luck and hope to see that monster jew photo soon! Tight Lines...Cjay
  21. Lucky to get that rod back! Shame about the phone but i think id jump in too if it had all my fishing pictures on it! I lost a phone from my chest pocket leaning over to gaff a fish and had to painfully watch it flutter down through the water with the screen flickering into the abyss
  22. what size are the crab plastics you use? Weathers looking good for this weekend that waters warming right up!

    Hairtail?

Whats the Raiders rig choice when chasing Hairtail? Ive read somewhere they sit upright/vertical in the water? Ive hooked a few up this way just before summer and even the smaller ones smash live mullet to pieces with a strange yo-yo style bite. Made me scratch my head on the first catch as it came to the surface thrashing around then its saw it teeth and didnt fancy hand landing the bugger
  24. nice catch guys, the fourth pic looks like an awesome fishy snag feature!
