  1. Been plenty of Rats getting around the island , they rarely swim past a live squid!
  2. Bugger , still beats working the wreck at Clareville holds plenty of yakkas if West Head not working , as does the Valiant, never seem to have much luck with Yakkas as livies in Pittwater squid is the killer bait or small cuttlefish if you can find them when chasing Kings around.
  3. Thanks mate, fresh slimy fillets on snapper snatcher paternoster rigs , was a bit slow to start but they came on strong on the incoming tide and hung around for about an hour and a half before going quiet.
  4. Don’t look at the deck, don’t go in the cabin , stay busy and keep looking at land or if too far out the horizon and hopefully it will pass, nothing worse!
  5. Thanks Mate they were all good nick
  6. G’Day Raiders Got out for a fish a couple of mornings this week was good to blow the cobwebs out after a bit of a work induced fishing lay-off! Hope you got amongst a few yourself
  7. It’s not a bad spot out there , it’s all tiny little spikey flathead from the valiant out to about 35-40mts then the better fish seem to come in around 45-50mts , attached a couple of pics from recent session out there wasn’t as pleasant as Sunday but certainly got a feed using fresh frigate fillets for bait
  8. Yeah there were a few boats out there but couldn’t find it anywhere, looking at the GPS I drive lines over the top of it a few times but no love! Spoke to Ron Osman and he mentioned the current has been pulling the FAD under the surface which makes sense , next Monday is looking good for another run out so will give it another go
  9. It’s indestructible, they live a hard life tied up at the wharf on the Island!
  10. Hi Mate, i just line line up the tip of the lighthouse with the west head car park in 50mts of water and drop a couple of reedy rig paternoster over the side with a lump of whatever bait I catch at the valiant on the way out The fish come pretty quick when you find a patch lots of double hook ups and sore arms from winding!
  11. Hi Paddy , you’re exactly right and it was when I bumped it into neutral that we lost it , live and learn!
  12. G’Day Mate, My mate who was out with me is the game fisherman and he loves billfish and wants them to release well so he runs barbless hooks, they are good for an easy release sometimes while you are still fighting them! lol Was a nice bag and a tasty breakfast, smashed the kingie sashimi this morning!
  13. G’Day Raiders Went out for a look Sunday morning as the weather was kind to small boat owners with low winds and slight seas, first stop was the Joey where there was a good mix of rats and a few decent fish amongst them , used up all my squid and put 2 keepers in the esky after releasing 3 and losing a really nice fish at the boat. While the weather was still good we headed east and once wide started to head for the Terrigal FAD, there were quite a few dolphins out there enjoying themselves , had a small dolly hit one of the skirts which was put back to grow up and swam off well, shortly after had something large hit one of the skirts and pulled hard a mad flurry of action to clear the other lines then got into it and after what was probably less than a minute the fish threw the barbless hooks and was gone! It had some serious go in it! We then headed out to where the GPS said the FAD would be but couldn’t find it for love nor money!?!? Saw a couple of other boats coming in around the same time that may have had the same issue!? With no FAD to be found we headed to the 50mt Flathead grounds off the Joey to top up the esky and put a few blue spots on ice for dinner before calling it a very good mornings work and heading in. Good forecast for tomorrow so might have to have another crack!
  14. I went out to the terrigal FAD gps coordinates on Sunday morning and couldn’t find it , spoke to a Mate who said there had been reports it was pulled under the surface by the current , did anyone see it out there on the weekend? Was a few small Dollies around in the vicinity
  15. Great lizard, A mate of mine was fishing for Kings near Lovatt Bay a few months ago towing a live slimey around and had a big girl rise up and take it at the back of the boat, put her back but would have gone close to the lizard above, they are still around now and then
  16. Not a bad spot out there at 50mts , grabbed a few out there recently myself!
  17. They have turned up on the headlands from Avalon to the Joey this week few rats hanging around with them
  18. Thanks Scratchie, last summer was awesome around here with the kings, bonnies and tailor busting up all over the place inside, had some interesting vistors just out from broken bay with big schools of striped tuna turning up at times, had strange catches like spotted mackerel in Pittwater at times also Just need this cold green water to go away and the nice warm blue water to show then we will be off to the races!
  19. Hello All long time lurker only recent poster My name is Jim and I live on Scotland Island in Pittwater, I am out on the water most days October to April when the water heats up and the fishing is on, in the colder months I do my hunting on land with the bow or rifle. Like a lot of Islanders I run a polycraft and do just about all my fishing from it, I mainly fish Pitty but also head out to the close in reefs and troll down the coast as far as Newport when weather permits. Might see some of you out there Kind Regards Jim
  20. Hi Kiwi There has been good numbers of blue swimmers in Pittwater , try along the enge of the channel off western side of Palmy off the Golf Course, The Red Channel marker near the ferry wharf has a few hanging around or in Lovett or Morning bay on the drop offs in the heads of the bays near the mangroves whole fresh tailor or mullet will get them in your trap. All the best Jim
