  1. Id go with Fluro especially if you think the line will rub against sharp and rough surfaces.
  2. Update: So the council acknowledged the issues that i wrote to them and only accepted that sand build up was a problem. This issue was also brought to them in 2016. But the other issues they did not acknowledge. I was told the issues i highlighted to them would be considered and if work is needed they will "consider" including it in their budget for maintainence. So as far as im concerned they don't really want to spend money on it. The only thing they do is clear the sand build up every now and then.
  3. Wow some great shots there! Really liked the eel with the translucent teeth.
  4. ah fantastic, great to hear they've done one for the jewies. Kingies as well
  5. Update: I have emailed Wollongong council today and listed the problems and the practicality issues of the boat ramp as told above. Will also ask if they are aware of these issues, (they are). note: an article was made regarding the build up of sand against the Jetty in 2016, still an issue (2019). Just hoping to share the frustration of the recreational fishers and raise awareness of the issue as a community based story. 😊
  6. I think the Victorian fisheries do a great job in terms of stocking waters and id like to see more happen in NSW. (even though there's a fair bit of stocking done in the NSW freshwater dams). But most of the stocking is done in freshwaters so I don't know if there is a technical difficulty in stocking fish species that live in saltwater...
  7. You can't eat fish from the Parramatta river right? or have I got my facts wrong...?
  8. Ah great yep was gonna ask if I could, Thank you!
  9. Yep I've seen the same thing happen down here in the Illawarra. I think next time im going to throw a urchin at their face and see how they like it lol!
  10. Throw the squid at them Rick! lol then make sure to get it back and enjoy yourself a nice salt n' pepper squid.
  11. Such a shame. god this boils my blood. I would most definitely report to the fisheries even if there is no evidence or ID. also rick try to get their number plate if you can. I would of lost the plot if I was there 😆 it's hard to be civil in circumstances like this, especially when people be ignorant.
  12. Thanks for the support guys! I will keep you guys updated on any responses I get and overall what happens.
  13. Update fellas, being a journalism student myself, I will be doing a story on this issue in the near future. Hopefully I can speak to the council and help expose the issue.
  14. Oh wow I did not know this, thanks mate. quite some difference there from upper NSW where most of us fish from. Well in that case, looks like they could massage the figures up a bit more lol. I like the, only 1 over 60cm per head. That's great as it keeps some breeders out there...
  15. How do you cook them? A very under rated fish, I once bought one from my local monger at $6.45kg, pretty cheap for a good fish!
  16. I think just reducing bag and increasing size limit would be a passive non-aggressive move that fishos might sort of appreciate more over a complete ban. Let's not forget that it takes 3-4 years for snappers to be of legal length which obviously can change depending on external factors. Also allot of people don't throw back the big boppers which are essential for breeding, and tbh I don't really think there that good eating at that size. 30-45 cm is when there really palatable.
  17. I feel like a good idea would be to have workers from the fisheries to stand watch at the harbours and boat ramps to do a "check" on the fish fisho's have caught. As stated above, there is not much enforcement. I have rarely seen them and when I do there just cruising on the water...
  18. I can't agree more with this man. so true, The amount of people who fish and keep non-legal size is insane. if only they were like us people here on fishraider who go by the rules..
  19. Off topic- was anyone there on Monday white boat attached to the back of a black ute, leaving supposedly...? I was there and it looked like these group of men had a issue of some sort with getting their boat out.
  20. Yep can vouch for the salmon for even down my way in the Illawarra. My cousins a surfer and he sees tonnes of salmon in the surf lately.
  21. Yeah not unusual for them to take lures that are green as they think its weed, win win if you ask me!
  22. Was just about to post the same thing! My favourite can't go wrong. 👌
  23. Hey buddy welcome down my way haha! Mate I've fished there a couple of times with no result but this was midday while the family was at the markets they hold there so that's probably why. Your best bet is going down at normal fishing times early in the morning and late afternoon/night. id go with soft plastics and prawns for bait. Also if you fish the area in the harbour that's after the fish and chip shop be careful as it is very snaggy, but in saying that I think it might hold some squid given the right time. All the best mate, I hope you catch something, and look forward to a report if you do post it. Oz.
  24. This is a bit off topic but I was wondering if anyone could describe to me where there are platforms I can fish from? had a gander at google maps, and satellites to no avail.. Much appreciated, Oz.
