  1. How long you had the boat? How do you find it? What type of use?
  2. You know you can get power (hydraulic) tilt n trim on 2 stroke outboards? Also, with the added weight of a 4 stroke if you decided to go that way, get maximum HP for the hull.
  3. Have any of you guys managed to go fishing together? How'd ya go?
  4. Geez, this thread bounced back to life!
  5. Not owned one,nor ever fished out of one. If the layout is anything like the one in the link below, I think it would be a PITA to fish out of inshore, let alone offshore. https://www.boatsales.com.au/boats/details/2007-Sea-Ray-240-Sundancer/SSE-AD-5976385?pageSource=details&id=SSE-AD-5976385
  6. So, where's the pics of what you made?
  7. Here's a pic of where I have the EPIRB, Fire Extinguisher, etc.
  8. Crew, Reviving and old thread instead of starting a new one. I was doing some research for battery chargers as I felt my old one wasn't doing it's job well, and had no indication of charging status or any of the 'new' modern functionality. I think my old charger is around 20 years young. Anyway, I just grabbed a C-Tek MXS 5.0 today after reading good things about them on here, this thread, and in / on other forums. Anyway, for anyone interested, Repco have them on sale until Sunday: https://www.repco.com.au/en/brands/ctek/ctek-battery-charger-12v-5a/p/A9512219
  9. @cooky6983 How'd you go fixing the problem?
  10. Price needs to drop a long way too before electric motors and associated batteries become 'mainstream'. If I'm reading the information on that website linked in the OP correctly, a 40hp equivalent electric motor is about €15,000 and the batteries another €12,000. I assume wiring and installation is on top of that, so let's say €30,000 all up. At current currency rates, that's a mere $48,486 😲
  11. Wooli would have to be one of, if not THE, shallowest bars to cross on the East coast. If Wooli bar is a bit sketchy the beach launch at Minnie Waters is generally a lot safer. Some seriously good, BIG, very capable offshore fishing boats, get launched from there. Have you got all the 'green' aka "no fish" zones for the area? They use a lot of aerial surveillance up that way. +1 for jealousy.
  12. Have you looked into an upgrade for your current MG? Does MG do add on upgraded for their motors like MK did, do?
  13. Nothing like a bit of smoke n mirrors! They must have had a producer / director from the TV shop direct ads running their filming and editing? 🤔
  14. Can you explain how the ipilot 'follow a track' function works? I understand it is done in the ipilot, so no need to hook up to a sounder/GPS unit, is that correct?
  15. I stumbled across this video. Interesting comparison? https://youtu.be/p5uYIiTElVg
  16. There's a few motors around like that, like the Mercury / Tohatsu 40Hp vs 50Hp (pre mix 2 strokes) And, often the restriction is only a rev limiter. Sorry, off topic. 🙄
  17. A lot of manufacturing has gone back into the USA due to the post GFC impact on wages. As unemployment peaked and wages fell, the cost of transport, communication and potential IP theft weighed back into USA favour (for USA based companies) instead of China. For Australian based companies the low wages of Asia including China have come with quality control and IP theft issues. I doubt there will be any radical changes made by BRP in the short term. The timing is interesting though, having just had our economic cycle peak and now moving into a downward cycle, boat and motor sales will no doubt slow too. BRP might have jumped in at the wrong time.
  18. When it comes to the motor side of things, cars, boats, well you can call me 'passion fingers' 🤔... 😲... 🙄 So, I take them to the mechanic, because, quite frankly it would cost me twice as much to fix up in the long run. Wiring, boats, audio, electronics, house, shed, etc. I seem to manage to make work and not die in the process. Does help having grown up as the lacky for an electrician. NOTE: while 12v in boats n cars is basically harmless (when the alternator isn't running), the 240v in your house or shed is, well, a WAY more dangerous ... so don't go playing with power around the house or shed unless you know what you're doing!
  19. Yet. By catch happens too.
  20. Oh, and remember,it's not the weight of the fish, but it's fight, pulling power and effective 'load' on the rod and drag on the reel. You can always back off the drag to fight a fish, but having it, knowing you can lock it down and pull back on the rod is a blessing when you hook up something of size.
  21. And, when a 2kg tailor or salmon or Jewish happen to grab it and take off? You'll be happy you have better line, spool capacity, a rod buikt to fight it (not break) and a reel up to the task. For my money, unless you're only plan on targeting the smaller light fish like dart, whiting, bream? I'd head for a 12ft rod, with at least a 6000 size Shimano reel. Spool it up with some good braid and you can then play with lighter mono leader for smaller light fish or tie off some more robust leader for chasing bigger stuff.
  22. Crew, I have a couple of rods in need of some new guides / runners. And. An overhead reel (Shimano Tekota 700) in need of some TLC 'maintenance'. Where is good for both, or either, around the Tweed Coast / Southern Gold Coast?
