  1. Thanks for the report Geoff,

    Love your photos.

If you are heading up the Snowies the rivers were still high. The good news is the lakes. Eucumbene is still rising with new water over grass providing good fly fishing. Look for shallow water close to a steep bank and evenings seem to be best.

We fished the Snowy Festival week and the Fly bois accounted for some of the better fish.

  2. I should have added the flathead ground was in 40-50m ENE off Memaid. Caught on a strip of Bonito.

I agree with above. I favour SP's in the shallow areas north of Crowdy but there is some areas to the east & south also & flathead grounds too off the Harrington entrance. I have a photo of an 80cm red caught landbased further south a month ago so they may still be in close. And watch out for whales.

  3. Spoke to a mate at Harrington today. He picked up a solid 7kg+ red recently out on the flathead drift.

I have no other reports however Marlin were being caught off Port Macquarie several weeks ago so there may be some warm water out wider - try the fads.

The lower end of the river is clearing with flathead around but I think a bit patchy.

Good luck. Would love to help but I'm off to Eucumbene for the Trout Festival..

  4. I had to visit a property the other day. It has frontage to the Nambucca River which in the upper reaches is crystal clear with a rocky bottom. The river is mostly very shallow gravel runs with some deeper pools and little cover. I found this one with a curly tail grub on a jig head with colorado blade. It came out from some light cover at the edge and took the lure mid stream. It was very enjoyable watching the whole hookup in gin clear water.

  5. Gotta love The Rocks. Always somewhere to wet a line. Well done on the Jewies..Always a lot of fun off the wall. A couple of years ago a school of Kingies took up residence along the wall and towelled everyone up. A bet the tackle shop loved them.

  6. I use a 4 weight fly rod. Its an entry level outfit & works for my local estuary & trout. I have also used in years ago on dolphin fish out at the fad. A decent bream may have you thinking of a heavier rod but the 4 wight handles most fish.

As for casting - whatever works. Bow & arrow is quite useful in tight spots or looking to get in through trees/leases/structure.

A great way to fish the flats. And you can cast to your hearts delight.

  7. Nice Dave - Thanks for sharing.

Young fulla caught some stonker whiting down here over the weekend. I had my first trip of the year in the river and only managed a Speckled calf found hanging in the tree roots over the river edge which we rescued and did a "tag and release" back into the adjoining paddock. No photos otherwise I could have provided a "report".

  8. All Hail the Fishing Gods for a successful sojourn into the soulful search of Fish, albeit with the (as usual) dubiuos support of said "better" halfs of ye who have no faith.

How good is life with a new and faster Donk!! The world is you're oyster. Now go forth and catch more fish

Don't forget to post the results on Fishraider - or the "better halves" will take your petrol money and spend it on take away fish 'n' chips.

Looking forward to the next report.

  9. There used to be big schools along the east coast usually over winter which were great fun. They go hard & are fun to catch. However any resource has usually been netted into oblivion so not as common any more. They are a good table fish. Surprisingly good as raw fish and good for fish dishes like curry or fish stew etc.

3-4kg "blurters" go as hard as Kingies. Try them thinly sliced raw on a bed on wasabi with your choice of garnish.
