  2. Hi Crazedfisherdude, by the eastern suburbs i mean anywhere from say la perouse all the way up the coast to coogee perhaps?? I live in rosebery. Thanks for the info mondo, hope to run into you sometime (hopefully by then you will have caught that illusive eastern subrubs jewie). I'll get in touch with you should i have any success.
  3. G'day all After living in the St George district my whole life i got married just over a year ago and moved into the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Problems is all the jewie spots i know are either in southern sydney or the northern parts. Just wondering if anyone out there has fished the eastern suburbs (landbased) for jewfish?? Im not asking for exact spots but any info would be greatly appreciated as its become too difficult to travel in the winter months to my usual haunts.

  5. Im heading out with a friend tonight also, probably around the bridges. Winds arent too strong, full moon, we'll probably fish the run out. It looks good to me!!
  6. sheer madness, but great to watch
  7. i think a boat helps, even a small tinnie with a 6 hp motor for a few hundred dollars can get you to some nice places which will increase your chances of catching a big fish. just make sure you get some life jackets/safety gear with the tinnie.
  8. thanks iricangi, i appreciate your advice
  9. The missus has managed to score us a working holiday over the weekend between 13th-15th June on the Goldcoast and i have a signed permission slip from her to go fishing on one of the days we are there. We had the same trip this time last year and i did manage to go fishing that time but wasnt too impressed with the company. If anyone has any contacts for people that run charters from the Goldcoast i would really appreciate them providing me with the details. Im not after any gamefishing, just some bottom bashing for the day.
  10. congrats on the capture!!! things only get worse from here on, once you've got a taste of catching jew the illness spreads more rapidly and you enter into a whole new level of addiction. Yakka's, squid, lures, tides, moons, time of the day, level of drag on your reels, rigs....running through your mind all day, especially when the is speaking to you!
  11. A mate of mine was on one of the other boats you saw, one boat got 3 YFT the other 9YFT some upto 45Kk's he reckons, very nice fish by the way bet it tasted great
  12. Well done, great catch
  13. thanks guys, much appreciated.
  14. Cheers Royboy, i appreciate your help.
  15. Ive recently moved from southern sydney to the eastern suburbs and hence am on the lookout for some new squidding grounds (my usual places are too far south). I have read a few posts where people have caught squid at Nielsen Park Vaucluse. I have been there a couple of times for a swim and was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to which side of the beach is best? any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. What a story, the most intersting read for ages...edge of your seat stuff. Perhaps you might be able to hire some scuba equipment to complete the salvage..Good luck and thanks for the report.
  17. Mate, where are you trying, what kind of bait are you using?? give us some info and we might be able to help you out.
  18. im really interested to see the pics on this one, a pic tells a thousand words as they say...sorry if i sound abit skeptical. 45 kills does also sound abit much for my liking but as long as there were 5 people(sounds like a charter) on board we cant say much
  19. where's the pics???? you cant give us a report like that without pics, thats teasing!!!!
  20. went out for a fish with mr jrefish king yesterday evening to our favourite jewie hunting grounds in the hope of catching a couple of more fish before the cooler months hit. very quite, alot of smaller stuff pecking at our squid baits, we did manage one large run but the bugger spat the bait after its first run. anyways i think we came across the dumbest whiting in botany bay last night, mr JFK was getting some small taps on his rod for a while so he decided to bring in his bait as he was certain a smaller fish had picked at, as he bought the remains of his bait onboard to our amazment we saw a half eaten squid (hood remaining and a whiting stuck inside that hood. the silly thing had stuck his head so far up the hood of the squid he could get out (just have beed chewing on the squids guts). After some laughs we cut the fish loose and let him go a little bit wiser. he was the only fish we actually caught all session.
  21. great work on getting your first, hopefully there's a heap more to come.
  22. The fish were 50cm plus, some significantly bigger and they were going mental jumping out of the water once hooked.
  23. Went out yesterday eveing with Mr Jewfish King in the bay, while we were hunting jewfish we didnt manage to catch any, we did however notice that the last couple of occasions we've been out our squid baits havent lasted very long as there a large amount of aussie salmon more than willing to accept our offerings. It was getting a bit silly yesterday, our baits wouldnt last 5 mins which a salmon latching on, great news if you're targeting these fish, pain in the a%s if you're not. Anyways we lost count of how many salmon were caught and released, we did manage a couple of tailor as well, one was over the 50cm mark quite easily.
  24. ahhhh the life of a jewie fisherman...... many nights of lost sleep fishing for no results, but when it happens its all worth it.
