  1. Excellent stuff, you got what I consider the perfect beach session Trifecta for the current season . Cheers, Spizza.

      On the beaches front.

  3. There's some big Tailor around too at the moment. S.
  4. Hi Grant, Are you hitting any of those great beaches up your way? Must be some great Jewie action along Kingscliff etc. I'd love to get up to Wooyung beach one day. cheers, S.
  5. No doubt, when using heavier braid, I've learnt my lesson that it pays to spend some more money and grab some quality braid like PowerPro, Bionic or Tufline etc. I had all sorts of dramas with the Jarvis Walker Viros Braid (50lb), which basically kept giving way on Albright knots etc connected to the fluro mono. Cheap and nasty stuff and cost me a personal trophy fish recently.
  6. There's some great quality mono lines out there today - strong low stretch such as Tortue, Moimoi and Platypus to name a few. If you go for braid, maybe stick with the higher diameter braids such as Berkley fireline which will be more resistent over time on the sand than quality lower diameter braid (not cheap either). Braid will cast further and assist in sensitivity, but depends on your set up too....e,g, whiting, bream, or heavier, salmon, Jew etc?
  7. Yes there's parking ticket machine/costs. I can't recall exactly how much, but I think 16.00 all day etc.
  8. The Bayview ramp (Rowland Reserve) is the best and easiest. Be careful of the other ones listed by Pittwater council, as some of them are in a disgraceful state. I wouldn't be able to launch a kayak from some of them let alone backing a car and trailer down some... Cheers, S.
  9. We came across similar situation on Friday morning in the area you mentioned on the way back to ramp. From a distance the boil looked like a big school of Salmon, but when we got close we noticed it was a big ball of smaller fish, yakkas or slimey's. We couldn't get an ID on the fish though.
  10. Sounds like it's time to set yourself up with the surf beach staple: ganged hooks / whole pilchards as well if you haven't done so already. You'll probably tackle sunset Tailor, and Salmon will be on the money too if not already there at sunrise etc. Cheers, S.
  11. Hi DingoDave, It may be worthwhile trying another beach close by. On the Nth beaches here, some beaches fire way better than others from my experience. Some beaches that fire well a particular season, go void in another season in the year. Try moving around, and keep a diary of your sessions. What rig were you using when it proved succesful on Maroubra and what species were you catching? Cheers, Spizza.
  12. Nice, hang onto them. Whilst graphite rods are lighter, you just can't beat the durability of fibreglass rods and Butterworth and Snyder are an important part of the OZ fishing scene, slowly forgotten with all the new range of stuff available these days. Always come up great too when rebuilt.
  13. Refer to the thread Jewfish Tactics in this same Fishing Chat section of this forum...tons of info there, and apply it to the Nth Beaches. E.g: Good Time: High Tides after dark. Right Conditions: Deep lazy gutters (lazy fish) Best Time: Peak usually Dec to Apr but all year round if you can brave the cold lonely arctic nights in winter...
  14. Being a young kid back in the late 80's, early 90's, I remember throwing out in the rubbish some of these Butterworth rods my that were sitting in my dad's shed for years gathering dust...I used to think they were dinosaurs compared to my neat new graphite rods at the time , which have since been used to grow tomatoes in the dad's vegie patch....moron! .
  15. Nice Breambo's. The Salmon are slowly but surely appearing again on the beaches as the temp starts to drop, should see some better than average Tailor in the next few weeks / months too. Cheers, S.
  16. Anyone own a piece of OZ fishing nostalgia?
  17. That would have been a ton of fun. Would love to tangle with Mullet of that size...would go like rockets I'd imagine. Cheers, S.
  18. I have a 750ss loaded up with 50lb braid (thin diameter) - large hard body toy. I remember a time when most of the reels you'd see in fishing mags back in the 90's were Penn spinfishers!
  19. Braid selection headaches...50lb.

  20. I'm a big fan of Berkley Vanish, Moimoi and recently on a heavier leader scale I've been using Black Magic.
  21. I don't doubt it. It's interesting how they rate their rods, more like a FSU rating. E.g, my Azagaie feels like a Medium Tapered rod, but is denoted as a '5' wrap (15kg line rating). So whilst yours is rated as 3 wrap, it's probably the equivalent of a standard 6/7 wrap MT rod etc....probably a lot to do with the composite material of the blank itself. cheers, S.
  22. Last year I came across a Mustard coloured 13,6ft blank which immediately impressed me. It was rated to 15kg, low mount, felt very solid and when I looked at the price tag, it was suprisingly cheap. I ended up buying it, and after using the rod many times I still very impressed by it. It's an Angler Azagaie rod - AB5157 - Glass. I spent many weeks trying to find more details about this rod itself, and after some research I found that the original Angler rods were made by Pacific Composites, (now Exel Composites). Apparentaly the surf range was aimed for the South OZ surf market + WA. Their original website was defunct (www.pacificangler.com) and it seemed the company dissapeared for a while a few years back... I was surprised this weekend to see that they now have a new website up, seems they are back in business. Does anyone else own an Angler rod? Thoughts on the blanks and quality? Cheers, Spizza.
  23. Almost finished reading Sol Bannura's book on Mulloway on lures obesession in Sydney waterways. Great read and you realise how obsessed some people get with Mulloway.

indeed mate, very impressed with your Nth Narra effort ;). Only a mad Mulloway fisho would have picked them on that day in those conditions on hard bodies.

Sol is a great guy who wrote a great book on catchin mulloway on lures. He gave me a crab pots and hard body lures for my 21st B'day lol, funniest thing is i think it was the greatest present i recieved !

  24. Nice work. The beach is such a great environment for the kids and a fish. I take my little girls down on the beach where I can fish, they can play in the sand & squeal the beach down when I hook up a fish and reel it in for them to see lol.
