  1. Mack tuna, frigates, and bonnies are all common around headlands in warmer and autumn months, when kayak fishing for bigger stuff, aka mack tuna, I tend to fish a few hundred metres off headlands, throwing bigger lures and throwing out an unweighted whole ganged pillie and leave it drifting about. Also, a flashy 60gm jig can also attract the above species. A decent mack tuna on 25lb spin gear is good fun but a bit sketchy, probably not in a yak though
  2. Not psychic, just to much experience lol
  3. Simple solution to overcome leatherjackets plaguing your fishing trip- Bag out on jackets. Pull up anchor. Pack up. Go home. Cook up the leatherjackets. Think about the kingies you could have caught that day.
  4. Most beaches around Sydney will hold those species, I find dawn and dusk better. All my bigger tailor and salmon have come in the winter months. I don't beach fish all that much around Sydney but can say that any beach with a good gutter should hold something. I prefer gutters near to headlands or rocky outcrops for bream and the like, but even a huge stretch of beach will hold fish in the middle of it. Try out a few beaches if they have good gutters and aren't packed. (Nothing more annoying or repetitive than telling people to walk the other side of your fishing line constantly, so avoid crowded beaches). I once had a British tourist tell me to leave because I was fishing on a swimming beach and could hurt people in the water and he ignored the fact the beach was near empty with no swimmers and that I was fishing a very obvious gutter aka rip. He finally got the message that I wasn't planning on leaving and went and spoke to the life guard who proceeded to tell him the beach was closed, at that point he trudged off.😄😄 Some people surprise you they are that dumb and ignorant
  5. That's right, but a good bag of fish makes you forget your cramped shoulders!
  6. Ok thanks...might go for the 10ft When using coconut rigs the only major action I use is a jerk and constant reel. Coconut rigs are great as they provide the same excitement as surface fishing because you can see the fish smash it, but is also a lot more affordable compared to buying expensive poppers and surface lures
  7. I can see where they get the cobra name from!🐍
  8. Hey guys... I am looking to get new rod for throwing coco rigs and know a good heavy rod is good for this, and am looking at a 10ft 10-15kg rod for this purpose. I have a few 9ft 6-8 and 6-10kg rods but they seem to struggle casting the heavy cocos. The question is, can a 10ft also be used for throwing big lures like poppers and divers comfortably? Or is it unconventional? I usually target the usual rock pelagic like bonnies and mack tunas but will a decent lure be able to be used effectively on a 10ft?
  9. Sounds like they must be at least pretty popular, they are very versatile, and not overly priced
  10. Just a question, are tassie devils as popular over there as they are here?
  11. Starting to make me want to go trout fishing in Tasmania again! Awesome trout mate
  12. Awesome bro! Efforts paid off with a stunning looking fish like that.
  13. Also, (I'm not a trout fisho by any standards) but I would fish the 13.5g lures in deeper water ways like rivers, lakes, dams etc., and use the smaller ones in creeks and shallower pools. Though, they can catch trout anywhere.
  14. I've fished with them a bit, and there not bad lures in my opinion. Check out youtube for further info, all I can say is a slow roll with some faster winds thrown in was my standard retrieve. Also, I prefer to ditch the trebles and use single hooks behind a bead.
  15. I checked out the video, looks like you two had a cracker time!
  16. I did check out the specs, and think I might buy myself one, (on sale at some stores) especially now I'm getting serious about ultra Finesse fishing
  17. Thanks, I would be spooling the reel with some 6lb fine braid and wouldn't mind having a 1000 in my arsenal, but depends on whether they can handle a decent flattie with ease, as a 2500 does
  18. Looking for a new light reel that can be matched to an oldish rod. It will be used for throwing plastics for bream and flatties (basic estuary stuff) and the nasci fits my budget. The only problem is I like using light ish reels whereas the nasci is heavier than my other reels. So, I am considering the 1000 nasci, and I know this is okay for bream, but never owning a reel this small, will it handle flathead and other estuary species as well as the 2500s?
  19. Actually just read your past posts on jewie catches, you have a heck of a lot more luck that me!
  20. Absolute thumper! If that doesn't make your month nothing will.
  21. My mate got 1 with a pilly in it once🤣
  22. Thanks, got 1 mid 30s this morning and it was choc full of weed, thanks for the tips in my drummer spots post too.
  23. Hey guys, quick question for the drummer fishos... When cleaning drummer the other day I noticed the black skin inside the belly, and friends tell me it must be removed. I was wondering if this was correct as everytime I've eaten drummer it's been fillets of those I didn't clean. Thanks everyone
  24. What is the weight difference like between the arrowz and raider? Also, I saw a maikuro 7ft 1-4kg online...anyone know about them
