  4. top effort Joe, I think that has wet the appetites of all the fishos looking forward to the kingy season. Im sure evryone will be at the tackle store tomorrow getting the daiwa, gulp alive and seaching around the harbour for spot XYZ. Jay Kay
  5. Achilles, Great photos. Great fish. Great hat. Jay Kay
  6. Im sure someone will come up with a better answer, but this is what the tackle shop guy told me. You use mono leader on braid lines because the braid doesnt have any slack at all and if you get a bite and you strike too hard, it might rip the hook out of the fish' mouth. I put about 6ft for jigging, and 3-4ft for shallow water. Someone please correct me if Im wrong and Id also like to know what others do. GO EELS
  7. I want to get out for a squid session, but we'll see what the has planned. definately going to bolt myself to the TV on Sunday to watch the eels get over the mexicans (melbourne storm). Jay Kay
  8. Thats interesting guys. Thanks heaps for the info. I was very interested to see what the responses would be when i first read the thread. Seems like a simple question, but the experience of all of these guys proves theres never one way to do things. Jay Kay

  12. Hi james, bad Luck on the YFT. It would have been very nice. A couple of the boys went out yesterday (I couldnt go because of work) and in 5 minutes of cubing they were onto a small 10kg tuna. A few hours later they got a smaller version. they told me there was heaps of boats out there but no one was catching anything (of what they could see). There was also one sick fisherman on board. Musnt have been flat at all. JayKay
  13. That is unbelievable. 105kgs. The other day at the fishraider forum ross hunter was saying that the 80kg yellowfin caught that week was the biggest in about 6 or 7 seasons. this fish must be breaking some records. well done to all that were involved. JayKay
  14. Hi saltrix, I saw your post last night, but i was too late with my reply. After seeing your report, maybe i should have cancelled what i had on and headed out with you. good to see you getting on to those reds. They seem like a decent size and i bet they would have fought pretty hard before you boated them. good report and even better to see people out there in this weather. JayKay
  15. what time did you guys ead out there and how long did it take to get your YFT. must have been a long day to then come back and do the jigging??? JayKay
  16. guys, that is truly unbelievable. good luck to you guys, you certainly deserve it after a 3 hour fight. how much line did it take before you could get some back? did you have the boat chasing it for a while? how far did you guys go out and what time of the day did it strike? Im so interested on how you guys came about this great fish. needless to say i am jelous and hoping to get my first YFT in the next few weeks. Well done again. JayKay

  19. Awsome report. that's a good size tuna and Im sure your heart was pumping during the fight. Ive been up to the whitsunday islands a few times but never dropped a line in. After seeing this report, the next time I go up, I'll definately be taking some gear up. JayKay
  20. Excellent work guys. Years ago we used to be able to catch bream that size in the harbour, but in recent years we have been lucky to get 1 of that size per session. good to see the harbour is producing. JayKay
