  1. Gav, Glad to hear that you're still in town. Will definately have to have a fish soon. Bad luck on the tuna chase, but at least you got out there for a fish! Maybe the wind put them off ..... I always find them harder to spot when the whitecaps are out. What days have you got off atm? Still at Target or are you already in the corps? Let me know, I'm looking at a mid week fish next week weather permitting. Herby
  2. Might see you out there Gav ... if I get some free time and manage to get out there, I'll let you know. Herby p.s. Why aren't you in Darwin by now? Change of plans mate?
  3. Nice work Matt, some solid mac tunas there mate. The longtails have been around in the area but very patchy. Looking at the pictures the weather was perfect and sounds like you boys had a ball anyway. If you and Billo couldn't find any out there ... they must've been absent that day. There' always next time!!! Herby
  4. Martin, Very glad that I was of some help to you in the purchase of the boat. That's what being a fishraider and this site is all about after all. Just a pity we didn't get to catch up for that beer whilst I was down in Sydney, next time mate. Just glad to hear she made it down ok and that you are happy with the boat. The Profish certainly looked the goods and appears to be a great family and fishing vessel. Can't wait to read plenty of fishing reports and tales of you enjoying her on the Sydney waterways. Best of luck, Herby
  5. Great looking boat and set up Martin. Hope she delivers and makes you very happy mate. Glad to hear the trip into Banana_Bender territory was worth your while. Herby
  6. Martin, Only got your PM just now ... have been out of town unfortunately. Sorry I wasn't able to check out the boat for you. Hope the flight up is worth it and the boat turns out to be a s good as you've envisaged. Good luck, make sure you do a water test. Herby
  7. Live in Brisbane, Fish on the Sunny Coast and love it! see ya out there, Herby
  8. JD, We're all looking to upgrade to violins (after SOO 3) What's the ABA price on them? Cheers, Herby
  9. Darren's price for SX-40's is very competitive ... I buy mine at a local tackle store in Brissy. He charges $18.95 but then gives you 10% discount when you buy 5 lures and 20% when you buy 10 or more lures! SX-48's are $20.95 ... same discounts apply. I just like the fact that he always has them in stock and ALL the colours. Atleast at Caloundra you don't lose to many lures to snags .... once Ken starts jagging and pulling the last few sunken crab pots out that is!! Jeffo, stop shopping at the Noosa boutiques you bloody yuppy! You could always order them from ABA. Herby
  10. That's a great haul mate ... Will SPOCK outperform the mighty BEEVIS from last season??? Only time will tell ... hope he doesn't fall victim to a sunken crab pot Herby
  11. Nice fish there mate ..... especially considering the conditions. Your photography matches your fishing skills .... A1 Well done Ken, Herby
  12. Might give the boat a tidy up and clean/wax. Hopefully will manage to get the digital TV antenna installed all by myself so that I can watch the footy while I'm working on the boat. Forecast looks ordinary so maybe I'll just visit Ken at Caloundra for a fish and a couple of Herby
  13. That quite a bream mate .... good way to crack the legal size limit - she's a monster. Geez PW, that's like losing your virginity to a supermodel Very good work champ, well worth the bragging rights. Herby
  14. Just a quick report ... Purchased some Ecogear Sx-48s the other day to target the big bream in the Passage at Caloundra. Left work early to try out the new lures and to see if the extra weight and size (and therefore greater casting distance) would attract some XL bream. Arrived just as it started to rain ... wind was gusting at 15-20 knots and needless to say, I had the place to myself. Out I waded in pouring rain, first cast and I was on to a nice little bream. Went 32cms and a solid start. Continued to fish and over the next 1.5 hours caught 8 fish and dropped another 2. Total tally was 6 bream (28-32cms), 1 little flatty and a first for me on a HB, a small estuary cod that simply couldn't resist my latest lure! A very pleasant afternoon, once I was soaked and the rain had stopped, the wind died off completely for the last half hour and the water was glassed out whilst I was watching the sunset over Ken's place. Verdict - the extra distance helped today, casting into a ESE breeze that was quite stiff at times, it was nice having a slightly heavier lure. I would've struggled with the old Sx-40 and yet the increased size made no difference to catching a nice cross section of fish and species. Tight lines and good luck this weekend. I'm off to 1770 again so will hopefully post another report on Tues with a few pics as well. Cheers, Herby
  15. Congrats to Bob!!! great fish Good to see a few 'trophy' fish starting to show up. another top session mate .... well done. Herby
  16. I was very careful when I stepped over the vines .... you said not to touch anything!!! Good stuff Ken ... glad to see the new colours working and you still getting a few fish every outing! The 37cm whiting must've been a nice surprise Apparently there are still a few Queenfish about in the Passage ... you keen to do some live baiting for them before they disappear? Or will you be busy with the rellos? Herby
  17. Once again mate .... niiiiiiiiiiiice fish! Simon, jeffo pulled the fish last w.e. fishing in the Sunshine Coast GFC Heavy Tackle Tournie and hence the fish was caught on 37kg gear ..... subsequently the fight was relatively short (only 10 mins or less even, from memory). Probably lucky that they got her in before she went deep. Beautiful fish tho and good to see it returned to the big blue. cheers to you Jeff (pretend it's a corona will ya) Herby p.s. What did you actually catch it on? A lure? What kind? And where/which area where you fishing?
  18. Maybe the place was just way too overcrowded last Sunday and the fish are still recovering!!! At least you got a couple mate. Well done, Herby
  19. Gaven with his flathead .... nice healthy speciman that! Nice catch mate She was released to be captured by Ken another day. Herby
  20. JD, Probably a 50/50 split between SX40's and SX48's ... the extra distance Ken was getting with the SX48 was helping him account for a few fish that others using the lighter SX40 just couldn't reach .... maybe it had something to do with his mighty Shearwater St. Croix rod .... who knows!?!?!? Only 2 fish fell to Soft Plastics ... the flathead and one of the bream. Herby p.s. JoeM .... there'll be another one soon no doubt so come along next time!
  21. I think the finally tally was 17 bream and 1 flatty, with Ken acconting for half (9) of the fish caught. Gaven (Bankso) got 4 breambos and a lovely lizard that went 59cm, Rainbowrunner persisted with the chucking SPs around and got one in the end, I managed 3 the biggest of which went 32cm. All in all a great day and nice to meet a few more Fishraiders. Mike and Beefa ... ya missed out boys .... conditions were good, the company better, and the tasted great. Thanks all, Herby
  22. Fantastic Lizard Dan! Well done mate .... and good to see you let her go. Here's a beer for you Cheers, Herby
  23. Fishraider social on Sunday .... maybe a fish off the rockwall on Sat night targeting a tailor. Herby
