  1. Ah the Passage Master does it again .... Nice going mate, was going to try and join you in the morn but have to go to court to testify now ... so there goes that plan! Great pre-brekky session tho Ken, looks like the quality is already there Bring on the cold weather now Herby
  2. Joe, I think you'll find that Andrew said 11mm not 11cms "Detail" my friend Cheers, Herby
  3. Fantastic work Ken!! The big girls are on the move by the looks of things ... the moon and the better tides should keep producing some good quality fish for a while anyway. Bring on that Fishraider social day Congrats mate .. that's a beauty for up here. Herby
  4. Well, the 20-25 knot forecast by the BOM was waaaaaay off the mark ... AGAIN! So I decided to make a late dash up to Caloundra after lunch on Sunday. Unfortunately I was too late and the tide was already low when I arrived. As Ken has said on numerous occasions, the spot produces best on the last of the run out, and basically the fish shut down once there's no run left in the water. Needless to say I wasn't expecting much when I arrived at dead low tide! Gave the SX-40 it's usual workout but with the tide low I couldn't get a hit for almost 45 mins. Then as the tide started to turn I picked up 3 flathead in a matter of half an hour. Nothing huge, 35, 39 and 44cms ... with the biggest joining me for dinner last night! Beer battered flathead went down a treat. Tight lines, Herby
  5. Ummmmm just checked the colour chart .... Apparently it's the Gold Coast Special ... yet works on the Sunshie Coast just fine!!! That's the 301 in case you go by the numbers. Cheers, Herby
  6. Yes boys ... the Ecogear SX 40 did it again I like using the one that's bright yellow with tiger-like black stripes across top .... especially in discoloured water and with all the rain we had last week the passage is still a bit dirty. Anyway, worked a treat. Herby
  7. You're spot on with your analyses ... it's an eel-tailed catfish. Watch those spikes ... they still hurt when they get ya!!! Herby
  8. Well done chief ... a couple of better size fish there. I had 2 males and 1 female in my haul from the day before and the female was quite full already. I think we'll start seeing bigger fish and better hauls in the next week or two. Enjoy the BBB mate Herby
  9. Just a quick report .... Was up the sunny coast Wednesday for a meeting, had another one early Thursday which was cancelled at short notice well, that left only 1 thing to do. Throw the waders on and grab the bream gear. With Ken expecting his family clan to show up anytime, I figured he wasn't going to be able to join me .... BUT surprise surprise the Fishraider-mobil was already parked at the secret spot when I arrived. There was about 2 hours left of the run-out and I met Ken on the ridge for a fish. He was ready to go home for lunch just as I arrived. A quick chat and the success story thus far, and I knew I had a chance of a few fish. Ken had picked up 3 bream and the tide was into the last stage of the run-out, which is usually the most productive. Wind was blowing from the SE (as usual) but was mild and not really a problem. The next 2 hours, right up until slack water, produced 5 breambos of which I kept 3 for dinner. These ended up feeding the girl and me .... mmmmmm Cajun bream! YUM The fish I kept were 30, 31, 32cms in size and the 2 released weren't much smaller (probably around 28cms). All in all, a very enjoyable and relaxing couple of hours. Got back into Brisbane just in time for the mother of all hail storms and about a foot of hail out the front of my garage!!! Ahhhhh, QLD .... Beautiful one day .... SHIT the same after noon I tells ya. Sorry lads ... no pics. Next time Tight lines, Herby
  10. I'm easy ... any day is fine!!! Just make sure the fish are there Ken!! Herby
  11. Indeed a morning with little wind was greatly appreciated! Was nice to dust off the spin stick and get the first bream of the season out of the way ... another few weeks and the big mammas should start to move in. Was a lovely morn anyhow. Good to catch up KA ... bring on the QLD Fishraider Social Day Herby
  12. Nice fish Tom and good to see the fish wasn't 'wasted' and that it fed a few, but surely releasing a majestic creature like that back into the water, would give you more satisfaction than killing it. Anyhow, nice brag pic Herby
  13. I'll just have returned from frishing in WA so I'll be able to make it on that date. After all, I have to help Mike celebrate Herby
  14. Great spanish mack Rob! Try having a fish off 1770/Bustard Head (near Bunderberg) where there's plenty of 20+kg fish about when it's mack season!! Awesome fun fish aren't they I take it you didn't manage to get out with Mono because he was fully booked. At least you managed a few fish in what has been very ordinary weather of late, and that's being kind! Well done, Herby
  15. That's awesome mate!!! I'll be aiming for 3rd prize As if I needed any incentives but now I'll defiantely come along. Made a home brew that tastes like Corona yet? Should we all chip in for meat and bbq stuff or bring our own mate? What's the simplest solution, I don't mind either way! Herby
  16. That wind is getting on my nerves!!! Glad to hear that the bream are starting to show up again mate, can't wait to get amongst em Let's hope there's a few around for the Qld fishraider social. Any prizes on offer Ken??? Herby
  17. I'm definately in Ken. I'd say the girl will come along as well and sunbake or just keep an eye on the ice cold brews in the esky whilst we knock off a few bream. I'll drag Jeffo along as well, altho no doubt he'll be kicking and screaming about having to fish for a poor man's fish. C'mon all you Queenland Fishraiders!!! Herby
  18. Well done grandpop, nice haul. I fish the river twice a year and still have never done extremely well. My in laws have a house down there I get down there normally at xmas time and june/july. Were you in a boat? Did you get them all on SP? Were you near the mouth or further up the river? Any help would be appreciated, as my in-laws are beginning to wonder why I keep persisting with bringing my fishing gear. Cheers, Herby
  19. Great MJ you got there Big Bob! Well done, Herby
  20. Simon, I have a Navman 4500 Colour Fishfinder and Navman 5500 Colour chartplotter with fuel computer in my boat and I'm very happy with both. Couple years old now and no probs at all. Also know a bloke who recently bought the 5600 and raves about it. Chartplotters are a nice luxury for sure. Herby
  21. That's fantastic news AG ... very happy for ya! Now give us the secret weapon!!!! Herby
  22. Great work LB and what top pics mate. Congrats on the PB and getting a few fish in previously unfished/known territiory. Very good effort. Herby
  23. Good luck finding a charter atm Rob. With all the pelagics around most are heavily booked mate. I tried to have a day out with Mono last month and he was booked solid until the end of April. still, ya never know your luck - might've been a cancellation!!! Best of luck, Herby
