Now all you need is to catch some crabs :yikes:  fill the live well with cold VB & ice and motor all of 20m to the edge of the channel and reel in one elbow slapper after the other from the comfort of your boat!!! :-rod :ohyeh: Fingers crossed, Herby

  5. Thanks Richard and Grant, Will look into both of your suggestions. Just good to know that I'm on the right track and that what has been proposed to me seems possible .... at least in theory! Cheers, Herby p.s. Have heard and read a fair bit about Lifeline batteries. Are they really that good? Worth the extra money? Does anyone own one?
  6. Ok lads, need some help, ideas and input with replacing the old batteries in my boat. Just trying to assertain what batteries would be best for my rig and it's set-up. I currently have a twin battery set-up. Last week my 3 year old marine batteries died (without warning) and now need replacing. So I'm currently wondering what I should replace them with? I'm after info on brands and types but was also thinking about installing 1 x heavy duty marine battery and 1 x deep cycle battery as I am somewhat prone to spending overnighters on my boat and have a few accessories (TV, toilet, fridge, etc) that source a fair bit of power from the batteries whilst anchored overnight. I've been told that marine batteries are a 'crank' battery and don't generally like being totally flattened and then recharged again, hence my suggestion to perhaps opt for a deep cycle as my 2nd battery which I'd use to run the appliances on the boat on o/n trips. That way if I drained the battery I could still start the outboard with the marine battery and recharge the other once the motor is running. What do you guys think? Or should I just stick to the standard 2 x H/D marines? Many thanks in advance to all those that reply. Cheers, Herby
  7. Good on ya Joe. You & the FP should be very proud of that result. Herby

  11. Good on ya Harold. As mch fun as boating is, it's certainly not worth endangering your life or those of the ones you love. No doubt a cruiser will have all the safety and creature comforts you desire and require! Don't you just hate selling stuff too cheap!!! :-mad2 :crankymissus: Maybe you should've posted something on here and asked the Fishraiders to value your rig? :confusuion: Aren't we all just so much wiser in hindsight. Look forward to seeing the pics of the new boat in the boating section when you get it. Cheers, Herby
  12. I still think every serious fisho should have a copy of "Grant's Guide to Fish". :confusuion: Herby
  13. Same in Qld if my memory serves me correct. I'd advise you get a braked trailer in any case Harold, just to make sure the boat gets there ok. Why did you sell your boat mate? Getting something bigger again? :ohyeh: Herby

  19. This thing was moored next to our charter yacht at Airlie Beach. Quite an impressive rig if I may say so myself. Anyonw know what brand it is and how much something like this would cost? :confusuion: Herby
  20. Adam, I'm a Wilson LF fan!!! :ohyeh: I have 3 Live Fibre rods; a 10-15kg and 2 x 15kg-24kg (7" and a 5.5" stroker). These are matched with a Tekota 500, Tekota 700 and a TLD 25 respectively. They are awesome rods and can handle tuff fishing conditions. As 8footugly said, they have great strength in the butt-mid region. I also have a 10 foot Live Fibre rod that I use for bream and estuary work and it's also a top rod. I doubt you'll get much better from off the shelf, at least not for the money mate. Cheers, Herby
  21. :welcome: Kikila I agree, all bad news for our fishing resources. Just hope it never happpens! Herby
  22. Lastest Update: Thursday, September 2, 2004. 10:47am (AEST) Greens on the NSW far south coast are considering civil disobedience if a giant super trawler is let loose in local waters. The ship, the size of a football field, could come to Australia from Ireland after the formation of the joint venture company, Veronica Sea Fish. But Greens' NSW Senate candidate Dr John Kaye says his party is committed to preventing the kind of overfishing that has decimated fish stocks in the north Atlantic. He says the ship is a giant vacuum cleaner. "Ships like the MC Veronica pose a huge risk to the future of our marine population, the pelagic species like mackerel and red bait, because these ships go through and they vacuum out everything in their path," he said. "By doing that we could pose a huge threat to whale populations, to seal populations, to all the marine species populations. "Without any knowledge, any baseline studies of where those populations are at the moment, we are about to let lose a death ship."
