  4. alrighty i'm gunna put more turns in my albright and leave the tag a bit longer in the braid thanx for the info....as for spinnin off the rocks i'll stick with my short leader cause i can't stand that knot rattlin thru the guides..... thx for the pointers flathead fanaticccc
  5. well done on the blackies...i fish cunje a lot.......always a nice standard of blackie on the cunji enjoy
  6. last year i decided that seeing as i couldn't get a straight answer about flatty's on plastic at night i would find out the hard way... as mentioned bridge pylons and lights help.... so does bait.... to say the least i was surprised..... pink and fluoro yellow worked well but in reality in dirty water at night fish are chasing vibrations... action is most important.... i use paddle tails and have had flattys have 4 or 5 go's at it......boat based helps....in summer we find that this is a sweet way to avoid both crowds and nth easters.... just try and get to the ramp when the tourists are getting out.. you will need to fire a few casts in the daylight to get the feel for it..... i like shads because i can slow roll with plenty of pauses...no rod work otherwise you will create slack line... this being said all the rules apply... last two hrs of runout help....cast up current into the dark and fish back through where the lights shine on the water.... there is one more thing but i can't do all the work lol\ braid and a reasonable graphite rod are essential, as is some daylight knowledge of the drops and channels involved.. my best sessions last year were at night...in december i pulled 16 fish in 1 1/2 hours and the next night went back for four fish from four casts...50, 55 60 and 70 cm respectively, all released.....have a crack flatty fanaticcccc
  7. lol decent feed of salmon
  8. dan is onto a winner here... anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of eating the cheek meat from a snapper, drummer or jew is missing out big time..... luckily all my mates are soft... i get all the cheeks mmmmmmm... if kiwis eat it its usually great -- read usually -- urchins have me beat...
  9. just had smoked drummer for dinner yummo.... try soaking fish in relatively strong brine for 20 mins then pat dry, black pepper.... smoke and eat yummo... when we were underwaterfishing hard a few years back we never went down for an early dive without the smoker a fry pan, half a loaf of bread and half a dozen eggs.... i can still taste that smoked maori wrasse.... our smoker would usually burley up a few hungry rock fishos most days lol
  10. ty swordfisherman that was quick.... so the allbrights out and the surgeons knots in...where is that geoff wilson book.....ty heaps for the info and the welcome.. flatty fanaticccccc
  11. good luk ray hope you slay em.... are there many coasties on here??
  12. new user here though i been stealin ideas from here for a year or so lol umm the pigs are back.. Fished 8/7 at crackneck lookout on central coast... epic session lost heaps landed 12 between 2 of us all legal up to 35cm... 3 hours before high tide till just before the peak was primetime... middle of the day... nice wash happenin.... burleyed bread and fished peel prawns and bread...had a mad fight with one fish that i reckon wouldv'e gone 50cm and also watched a nice 60 cm groper fin up onto my ledge on a swell and grab a crab.... at lunchtime lol sorry about the lack of pics my camera and pc aren't talking to eachother at the moment... by the end of the arvo we were trying to keep wet cause the ocean was 19 and the air was 12 lol dust off the pig gear raiders... flatty fanaticcccccccc
  13. hey guys new member here..... jus a quick one for the bream boys... when you guys are using rod length leaders of fluorocarbon line do you notice and deterioration in your leader knots after long casting sessions?? i'm wondering because when flatty fishing with plastics i only use 40 cm leader so my leader knot never enters the guides, same when spinning the rocks with metals... i've nailed a cpl of bream on plastics but am wondering how essential it is to have 2 meters of leader... do i just have to accept the fact of checking and re-tieing leaders all day... ty guys ps i'm using berkely dropshot rod 1-3 kg, 4 lb fireline, 6 pnd nitlon flatty fanaticcccc
  14. umm as spanker said tailor do like fast, but only with a fast lure... all i'm sayin is with a sniper or similar flat stick is the go but a raider has nice action at medium pace with more rod work... i'm no expert with twistys but a combo of pace and letting the lure flutter down has been most effective for me... as already said what fires em up one day will leave u fishless the next day.... experimenting is king.... flatty fanaticccccc
  15. hey guys first post here... i fish central coast a lot and when we are findin the frigates or bonnies are being finicky or feeding on 'eyes' then we will cast jig heads minus plastics...... bullet shaped darter heads are the go.... with a flat stick retrieve the jig heads leave a nice bubble trail and if the finicky fish has a swipe at the tail they eat hook... i picked this one up off a lbg mate who live baits these king lollies hope this helps flatty fanaticcccc
