ok, i've been absent for quite some time, but alas my exams are not over!!! I'm just going crazy and i have to talk some fishing... i met some dude on the bus the other day, said he was going to maroubra to catch luderick and drummer... he told me they taste delicious, and arent hard to catch at all on his cheapo rods... so i thought why am i on the beach trying to catch the ever illusive mahi mahi when i should be on the rocks eating sea salt flavoured drummer!!! i got some tips off him, but ppls please let me know if this is right or not... Rod - 2 m to 2.5 m, light line - 12lb bait - bread with a bit of seawater scrunched onto the hook (is this right? doesnt it just fall off?), cunjovi hook - really small (can someone give me an approxite size) and then, just with a small ball sinker (anyone recommend a size) stuck 20cm above the hook, and away you go... and best time is at low tide... does that sound about right ppls?? ok, now i gotta get back to study please oh no the suicide inclination is going up again ahhhhhhh.... if you guys wanna know how i feel, check this out!!

hey everyone wow thank you all very much for your concern, i apologise but i should have made it more clear that a mechanic has fixed most of the internal damage... and yes, the suspension was bent, control arms bent, drive shaft bent, hub replaced, and sub chassis was bent too.... i didnt think the engine mounts would have been pushed because the wheels hit the curb... the mechanic didnt say anything about engine mounts either... but ya, for now the mechanical side seems ok.... but, this mechanic seems to have a strong aversion to looking for parts... after fixing the mechanics as is but left out the panel, lights, and a new wheel which i need... as for a panel beater, i dont think theres much point because the panel is well and truly gone so im just looking for a new panel which i will either respray or might even be in the same color (royal blue is subarus flagship color).... so yeah, if anyone knows a panel beater, mechanic, at the end of the day im just looking for someone who can get my car back on the road, thats all... im in a bit of a hurry too because my rego is finished and i need to get it fixed before i can rerego... so yeah, thanks again everyone

I'm in kensington, which is next to university of new south wales kingsford campus... btw, i probably should have thought about this earlier but here are some pics and a few words to entertain you guys... haha, im in the middle of ultimate exam death at the moment so certainly no fishing reports to give you guys a laugh, so here is my car crash instead so one day, i was ploughing along in the rain on my way to do the groceries... pretty boring right? ya i thought so too, so i decided to give myself some excitement... i pull up to a corner in 3rd gear, not going all that fast doing maybe 40 or 45km, and i thought REXY AWD POWERRRRRRR (rexy = subaru impreza, awd = all wheel drive), but because it was raining and so theres less traction on the tyres and when the tyres lose traction, understeer is inevitable... ok so i didnt think this deep at the time, but anyway, instead of turning right, the car ploughed almost straight ahead... straight ahead into a curb that is... and damn was that curb hard... the curb was so hard in fact, that my all indestructible rexy got caned... anyway, that was many many months ago but because of my student povo-ness i havnt had the money to fix it up until recently... most of the mechanical work has been done, but theres still some panelling etc left... anyway, i'm looking for a mechanic who can just get me back on the road because i'm so tired of catching the bus to do groceries... oh and if you guys are wondering, yes, i did feel bad after smashing my car... but not as bad as i feel if i catch no fish... thanks guys!

hello fellow fishos was wondering if anyone here is a car mechanic? I smashed my car a while back and need some work done mostly on the front passenger side... theres very little mechanically that needs to be done, mostly need panel work and perhaps a paint job... however, car has been off the road for quite a while now so perhaps some engine tubing etc needs replacing... anyway, if anyone is a mechanic please let me know, id rather give the business to a raider... or, if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know ya thanks heaps guys

duuuuude ooo ahhh ouch i think you are just a few weeks too early for me to jump in, i am severely dead from exams and assignments for uni and i can barely spare time to put clothes on before going out, let alone fish... i guess though if you guys decide to hold it in late november i will definitely be there, and i certainly would love to be there to meet everyone, but any earlier than that is impossible... anyway, have fun everyone!

hmmmmm so can i ask a question then... in the tackle talk section, ive been talking about my search for a telescopic rod for the beach and rocks... im thinking 3.6m or above, lobbing probably 3 or 3.5 ounce tops.... i prefer some fast taper action, probably top 2 sections of the rod bending but the rest loaded with good power... which of your said materials would be best???

yeh bro i left after dark that time and saw them scurrying around... thats part of the reason i dont want to go back there it seriously smells a bit funny and after catching the tailor i'd put the rod down and itll hit the sand... after seeing the rats, i was thinking whether or not letting my dinner touch that sand was a good idea... on the other hand ive heard fried rats are quite nice.... or i wonder what happens if you live bait one eh...

hey timzz first of all i have to agree with kenmare rock fishing is definitely dangerous... i actually prefer the beach because... well, if you fall over, you dont die... having said that though, the rocks at maroubra are ok, but you know what, you can catch equally good stuff off the beach... now, you say you dont know where else you can go???????? mate you live in the east its about as good as it gets around here... you have - maroubra beach (its pretty big, work up and down the beach a few times) - coogee (also pretty big beach, nice whiting, stupid wobbegong) - yarra (haha this is where i do most of my learning in terms of fishing, good spot) - la perouse (good for squid, and a walk with the girlfriend as its got a restaurant) - watsons bay (also where i do my learning, good for squid and excellent conditions with light and shelter) - the merc (this is some serious rock fishing do NOT go on your own... come with me instead!) - camp cove (right next to watsons bay, its a nude beach too, so ummmmmmmm.... yeah....) - prince of wales drive mate i think thats enough to get you started, theres a lot more than that including some super spot Xs littered throughout... in terms of gear ill let everyone else sort you out im not too good with the gear glucks bro PS Hello to all my usual eastern fisho bros!!! PPS Kenmare, wanted to ask you how is bondi? ive been recommended to go there but i tend to avoid it for fishing because if i get there i tend to get distracted by some chics left right and centre and then forget to reel in some mahi mahi and then get beaten to an inch of my life by the for eye candying ... is it a good place?? what do you recommend, go near the bondi pools?? gness - are you talking about the 2 rock jetties off the m5??? you can see planes land right in front of you while your ear drums get blown out?? that place ya?? if it is, ive heard there are heaps of real big red rock crabs there but for some reason it smells like sewage to me? anyway, in terms of stats ive caught the most fish there, 5 tailor in one night... got bitten off by another one too!! estimate 7.6m or so

haha lol funny thread eh ya, invisible fish are definitely a better catch than visible fish, because they dont smell if left outside, they dont thrash all about and stick their fins into your eye, and of course, i am a total expert at all the invisible mahi mahi!!

alright, first up make a BIG APOLOGY to - MONDO - Novicefisherman - gness sorry guys i said i would give you a buzz when i go fishing next but it was an impromptu styles, so sorry about that next time definitely give you guys a buzz ya so, first up went to see big boss tony, and got some gear off him as well as some live beach worms... first stop, yarra bay... started from the beach first at about 5 oclock which was well before high tide, but then again we planned to fish till late... chucked in with some live beach worms on both big and small rods, just to keep all the basis covered... small rod hooks got bitten off but didnt even feel the bite... those friggin mahi mahi... so then we moved onto the jetty, i first tossed in a float, got nothing, switched to a sinker, still got nothing... another fisho was there, and between the 3 of us there were 5 rods in the water in all directions, and between us we were using worms, gulp, pilchards, and chicken... not even a single bite... i remember being told if in doubt, move... so thats what we did.. off to maroubra cast into the surf, and............. WHAM, a moth flew into my face.... nothing was happenign with the rod though... after a little while, the lack of anything-ness was getting to us... so to quell our boredom, we decided to sing... thats right, in the middle of maroubra beach, we starting belting out tunes at the top of our lungs while our rods didnt catch fish... told you we were going mental Check it out, here are the lyrics we made up in our bout of mentalness... the song is louis armstrong's what a wonderful world!!
