  2. holy crap!! that is what jetty fishing should be about!! any secrets you could share with us though??? bait? hooks? line weight? berley? anything? how come i only ever get eel from the jetty!!! haha
  3. vinno man, can i ask... if you have got the extension, then why havnt you gone fishing yet????? man, the whole reason i needed that friggin extension was because i went squidding hahaa... but bro is yours for migration law too??? man looks pretty bad on us though eh... man dont worry about the squid man we have all the time in the world after exams.... i feel pretty stuffed man.... wanna mass dive off the merc??? or, as brother LURINGBREAM is talking about, riot!! rage!!! man i see you in class tomorrow eh.... check eeeeeet man civil engineering?????? tough choice bro... get this, strangest thing - i study combined law, commerce and law, but graduated commerce now, but from 2nd year to now, 5th year, ive only ever had 2 days a week of class... haha.... studying 2 degrees takes less time than 1 degree eh!!!! study hard bro, after you get some HD's you can ask your parents to buy you a boat!!! ya bro haha skip class for fish eh but because you can get into kingies its worthwhile... i dunno man, we have been skipping class to catch nothing quite a few times... watsons bay is to blame!!!! other ppl pulling snapper off there and im getting eel!! what the hell!! ya its a bit on off eh i once went there hit this massive school of tailor omg was getting fish cast after cast, and then when i cast some more, i got 2 bream... i dunno ever since then i have loved that place, but conversely its the place where i have caught the least fish on average... man, strange thing with uni is (or maybe its because ive been at uni for too long)... im about to finish, have job offers all lined up, and i always thought after i get them graduate job offers in, money will roll in after i start working, so as if id ever care about what marks i get etc ever again... you know what bro? i really care... really really really care.... cant bring myself to skip some class... i dunno its pretty unhealthy but im just hoping it all ends while im still breathing... because after its all over, i will never EVER go back again... im goign to catch moby dick
  4. hey mate wow thanks for the reply this thread has been collecting dust for quite a while, and i certainly appreciate the info as im still learning!! ya actually i think in japan most fishos use a telescopic rod, and they indeed have some nice teleos there, problem is they never make it to australia!! id really love to get my hands on a good one cos itll go nicely with the car i am looking for... hmmm fibreglass eh?? what characteristics does fibreglass give??? the one im looking at is carbon... if you look above youll see the spec numbers for it but i havnt been able to find any info onthe rod at all.... i prefer a fast action rod.... still looking though... but dude what is a ferrule system?? i have never even seen that word before!! haha anyway dude if you have any other info on teleos please let me know!!! thanks!
  5. hey dude can i ask though, what do you do with carp??? are they edible??? any good as bait or burley?? be nice if they were edible man thats some fatness right there.... but the water pollution and images of 3 eyed frogs in the water scare me.... good stuff man!!
  6. ahhh i see mate but what would you recommend me fishing off the watsons bay jetty??? or maybe the camp cove spot... i have been recommended to throw a ganged pilchard and just retrieve it... should i do that with some soft plastics?? if so what kinda SP's you reckon??? thanks dude
  7. man, im at sydney uni doing my last semester of law school.... im dying bro... but no one hears my paaaaaaaaaaaaain..... seriously, apart from my love of fishing, i also do it to supplement my diet... all the seafood at coles are like 2X.XX per kilo... so yeah.... riot it is man!!! in the meantime bro, check this out... the reason we get an education, is so we dont have to work at places like............................
  8. hmm dude thats something to think about eh, so you reckon bobby cork not the running float?? will the crimp in my line make some tangles... hmm but thanks heaps for the idea eh, will definitley try that!! ahhh orange eh??? hmm most fishos i have seen have a full array of different size and colored jigs... i have 2.. so maybe its time to invest in an orange one eh?? by the way is that a yo zuri or a fake pro zuri?? if the cheapos work i will probably just go for that eh... hmmm and saving up to buy egimax... oh tasting the lure eh.... hmmm.... so they taste with their tentacles?? kinda figures cos i assume squid have no tongue... anyway, what smooth surface would that be are you talking about ike those hard plastic full glow ones?? and what do yu think about the soft plastic jigs?? if they tsate that will they still be interseted?? no luck with the mahi mahi??? bro i will have to take you to my spot X for that... its near north sydney... near the shopping mall of north sydney actually..... alright stuff it ill jsut tell you now, spot X is DE COSTI'S SEAFOOD shop.. definitely get good fish there first time, everytime!!!! haha never seen a squid run??? bro, this a special squid eh it parts the water, kinda like moses... then, strangely enough for a sea creature, it had some CONVERSE AIR FORCE ONE'S and does the crip walk.. yeah haha but seriously dude it shouldnt be too much longer before we break out... from what the other fishos have been experiencing id like to have a night where i catch a full 20 squid!! haha take care bro ya thanks bro and haha definitely thanks for reading!! i havnt been out and about much these days so ya, till next time!! tight lines to you too dude!!
  9. wow flightmanager when i saw watsons bay i had to post a reply... ive gone fishing there too many times for nothing but eel!!! was the snappo caught off the jetty?? or were you in a rubber ducky in watsons bay?? and also got any tips for me when i fish there??? my brother says he hooked something big off the jetty once but lost it.... thanks dude
  10. hey dude looks like heaps of fun!!! from what you say though, so what the skipper took your fish and sold it at the local market and sold it??? damn... i would want a fibreglass trophy and onto 'fragile' luggage on the way back!!! and that no release rule is pretty stupid... i mean, hawaii would be the last place on earth you can still fish like that eh, but if they never release it wont last for much longer.... ha dude, i reckon it was because the deck hand had the baseball bat... thats why you didnt have the choice... if you had the baseball bat, im sure that fish would have a nice tag and be swimming down to maroubra for me to catch right now eh... good stuff mate
  11. hey dude ya ya tried all i could!! i usualy do the double tap, where i raise the rod a couple of times in quick succession before letting it sink... then i tried just a slow retrieve... then i tried a quick retrieve... then i tried letting it sink and then pulling all the way to the surface and letting it sink again... and then i just gave up... hmmm hopefully will do better next time.... next time maybe try la perouse or somethign else eh... camp cove is ok too i think...
  12. wooo really??? how do i cook it without getting killed??? or are you saying fillet with gloves on?? ya i had a suspicion it wasnt a safe fishy..
  13. alright harro evely oneeeeeeeeee it would seem that quite a few squidding threads have popped up and i have also received a few pms about them, so last night thought stuff the uni assignments due in like 2 days I MUST SQUID... ya thats right due to my lack of mahi mahi success i thought i would give the blood cholestoral level a boost... nothing like one of them heart attack brain hemmorage strokes to get some extensions for uni assignment anyway, got there at 2am, which is 2 hours before the high tide.... was completely windless which was great because squiddies hate that damn wind messing up their hairstyles.... started by trying my pink super prawn pro zuri (thats a name i made up for my fake yo zuri immitations)... to no avail!!!!!!!!!!!!! angryness........ anyway, i decided to investigate what was going on and watched the way the jig sank and realised it bloody nose dives... i was like whoever made this ate too many prawns but never seen them in the water eh... its not a pro zuri, more like a poo zuri... anyway, remembered that guru MONDO told me that cheapos tend to do that so its best to cut away some of the weight... tried it, and realised my teeth werent strong enough... i then started feeling a bit dizzy and i realised the weight is lead and i probably should have had it in my mouth for too long trying to bite bits of the weight off.... hmmmm.... anyway, put my trusty green prawn $1 pro zuri on and chucked it out... now, this is my all time favourite (its a 2.5btw) jig and its caught me my biggest squiddo despite being only a $1 and not so good quality... anywya, chucked it out a few times and nothing i was thinking eh????? bloody impossible i have never left this place without higher cholestoral and tonight will be no exception!!!! after a few more casts i realised something must be wrong, because i know the squid are there.... anyway, so i moved to underneath the big light, next to the no entry sign, and cast out again... just as expected, when reeling back my super green prawno a big brown squiddo came in hot pursuit... i reckon mantle length 20cm it was a fairly good one... anyway, i jigged and jigged and EVERYTIME the little thing would just touch the jig with 1 tentacle and then run away... then i would reel back and cast right in front of it's face and it would follow it into the light again and the same one tentacle touch thing would happen... this went on for about 15 minutes before i decided bloody give up.... so yeah, i reckon some egimax or whatever that squid spray thing is called would have helped... also, the water was a bit murkey yesterday so i reckon some brighter glow or ones that make them rattling sounds would have been goood.... there seems to be quite a divergence of results - some fishos are getting like 36 squid in one night and others have been frustrated the hell out of... i think thats because only some of the squid are coming on the chew atm.... others will be shy and do nothing but frustrate you till your veins pop... the water wasnt particularly warm last night either... so perhaps just a couple of weeks from now they will well and truly be on the chew... last but not least im sorry to all the people i have told to try watsons bay i didnt mean to waste your time!!! i apologise... please feel free to feed me to the squiddies anyway, assignmenting time now... and to all the other uni students on this website i reckon you have 2 options - 1) study hard for the finals, drink v, and dont sleep 2) RIOT AGAINST EXAMS WITH ME
  14. wow nice work there!!! haha boy i look forward to the day when i can come home iwth that much fish!! got a bit of a question though... that red fish you have on the right hand side of the photo... is it a cod?? is it edible?? i hooked up one at the merc a while back... i dunno man looked too scary i chucked it back... isnt a general rule in nature that if im colorful, its a warning that if you touch me ill poison you to death and then some??
  15. ahhh yes i see them little cuttles shoot out at a million miles an hour to side grab my jigs too... ive been unsuccessful in getting them though... was thinking to myself this 'sight fishing' is a new experience... you can see them there, you can see them take your jig, and just cant seem to make them end up in yoru stomach... hmmm....
  16. hey everyone!!! thank you all very much for your replies! and its certainly good to know ive made a few of you crack a laugh!! ok, the mahi mahi thing is a joke, i know theres no chance i can get them from a beach but hey, hope is a powerful thing!! it keeps me going back to the beach time after time after time!!! big thanks again to mondoooooooooo i hope all is going well for ya, work and fishing... i will have to try and spare some time so we can do it again, but this time, we'll get 20..... billion..... sandcrabs.... no no just kidding we'll get 20 billion jews ya?? to DAVID L, NETIC, CEPH, CARANX and BIG-BANANA, you know with all the drifting and casting talk goign on, ive got an idea - you see, ive always been quite a handy-dude around the house, learnt it from my father, and one of my hobbies when i was younger was to make model airplanes... fast forward a few years, and im standing in hobbie and co, looking at their remote controlled helicopters... im thinking hmmm.... what if i got a mechanical arm which can hold my hooks, then essentially i can remote control the helicopter to FLY OUT THAT 10KM and release the mechanical arm which would then drop my hooks into the deep blue tuna/mahi mahi house... yeah??? stuff ballistic rods theres too much work involved you have to move your arms all about in a quick frenzy.... with the remote controlled helicopters, you only have to move your fingers... much easier!! TIGER_SHARK i wish you luck man!!! you know, if you get any, you can pm me then ill drive there and we can fish together!!! hey BIGFOOT!! how you going dude? ya a salmon is something at least... a few times ago me and my brother went to maroubra the same thign happened... within my first few casts i landed a salmon, and then my bro landed a whiting shortly after... this time, he landed the salmon... i was waiting for my whiting for the whole night but it never came!!! stood up by a fish!!! WILDFISH, want to ask you man when you are talking about the bean sinker with the 60cm trace, is that a running bean down to a swivel with the 60cm trace after that?? if thats an effective rig i will definitely try it!!! reason i dont usually use that is the bait drags along the ground when retrieving and even with baitmate i lose my pillies and my YAKKA so yeah... but is that the rig you mean dude?? and WEBBY, thanks for your reply man you got that right.................. YAKKA POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR to the max!! THANKS HEAPS TO EVERYONE!! Shall update as soon as i can!! take care
  17. late update, but hit the beach again last friday... same as always with the 20lb lines and 3/0 hooks as well as some baitholders, but, invested heavily in gulp before heading out... i got some 2.5' minnow nuclear chicken... my brother got some 2.5' super bright glow minnow... dont really know waht the name is but it looked like disco minnows so yeah... got to maroubra an hour and a half before the high tide, went to the right of the rip... we used 2 hook paternoster rig, with the gulp on top so it can swim around liek a real fish and attract MAHI MAHI for me to catch... within a few minutes, i got knocked off!!! this fish walked up and ripped my gulp clean off... without touchign the hook... i was like eh??? what kinda fish can do that??? mahi mahi, definitely.... anyway, few minutes later my brother says IM ON and then comes this salmon!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO wasnt particularly big but anyway, ITS A FISH and i mean, what more can we hope for!!!!!!!!!!!!! but, the salmon took the pilchard, not the gulp... so yeah... then next thign ya know, something knocks off my brothers disco minnow gulp, hooks too!! looking at the line closely though it was clean ripped off... i turned around to my brother and said - must be mahi mahi... at about this time, we were joined by MONDO!!!! hey dude!!!!!!!!!! we soon unpacked a yakka we caught 2 days earlier, and mondo was nice enough to rig it up for us... so me and my brother cast out both screaming yakka power but, soon we would know it was to no avail... our yakka got munched, but just not by fish, and especially not by mahi mahi... so after that mondo led us to the rocks where we cast in for a while longer... unfortunately, our spot was taken by some other fisho who upon conversing with us, motioned to us that he quite regularly catches salmon around the 1.5m mark here... i was like sure bro... anyway, nothing was biting from the rocks so we + mondo made our way back to a gutter where my borther and mondo tried for whiting, and i continued to try for mahi mahi... but, soon enough, the night was getting late and mondo headed off... and for the rest of the night, we didnt get much and we went home a while after that... all in all, that one salmon was nice... another 5000 would have been nicer.... but a big thanks to mondo for everything!! anyway thats about it... going to be busy sooon have exams and all sorts of other crap coming up but thats ok, fishing is most important of them all!!!!!!!!
  18. aiii mate like ive been told a million times fishing can be a bit like that sometimes... but i mean, fish are fish, they instinctively eat what they can find so if you know there are fish there but they arent taking your baits then there must be somethign thats telling the fishies its not safe to eat the lure or bait... then its just figuring out exactly what is scaring them away... haha mate by the way you say rec leave id guess you work for the government!!! haha
  19. haha nicely done mate!!! good thing about salmon is that there is more meat per fish, so 1 fish will feed 1 person!! mate if you like salmon maybe try a beach theres definitely not a problem with landing and it isnt as dangerous as rocks either...
  20. brooooooooooooooooooo where the hell have you been man dont ever see you reply check out my posts man!!! haha too much business taxation assignment make me VELLY CONFUSIONNNNNNNNNNN man take me groper fishing next time alright??? ill show you how to catch sailfish off maroubra alright bro deal check eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
  21. hey dude well its not so much as an innate need rather than having no other choice... most days im at work till 6, otherwise im at uni... so yeah, pretty much only have nighttimes free and even thats scarce because i get too many how come youd rather go fishing than talk to meeeeeee etc etc thats also the reason i do marathon sessions, because if i am allowed to go then i will make sure i make the absolute most out of it by sitting through 3 tide changes.... ya, i guess fishing for a shorter period would make sense, but bro, ive never 'caught a few'... and you know, if you havnt fished anything you keep thinking if i just stay here a minute longer, that school of SAILFISH will move into the beach and i will be off.... anyway dude i shall pm you for tomolo, hope you can make it! haha dude ill try get it off my bro its on his phone... he took real closeups of it so it looks huge, and of course, the tail sticking out the flathead's mouth is a yellow fin tuna that we live baited! [ill edit this post and add the pics sooooon!!]
  22. hey dude!! thanks for the reply ummm i dont have braid dude its just 25lb mono but its pretty small diameter... shogun brand, dunno if youve seen but its quite thin... but anyway, even so i have considered it and i didnt think salmon and tailor would be scared away, i mean after all last time my brother caught a tailor if it wasnt for the 25lb line, the tailor would have bitten through... we actually just managed to pull it up about a meter out of the water and the line broke so yeah... plus i always have my small rod with the 8lb line but i usually cant be bothered taking that anymore... but ya, my brother has caught a couple of whiting on the big rod anyway, so yeah... and ya, youre right about the cost fishing stuff isnt all that expensive in the big picture... i mean, a good outfit will cost me at most 500 bucks but a new set of tyres for my car is almost a grand... but still, until i start full time work im really finding it difficult so yeah... i try and cut down whereever i can... ah i always though salmon and tailor would wait around the rip for small dizzy baitfish to drift by but ya, i will try the spot you recommend... but want to ask though - do i need cleats to get there?? its not too bad is it if i fall in its just a beach couldnt be as bad as the merc... arvo session eh?? what day dude?? you give me the time and i will try schedule around that... but in case youre interested i will almost certainly be there tomorrow night, umm with the high tide at 918 i should be there from about 730 till maybe 6 in the morning... so yeah... thanks heaps dude!!! oh and flathead fanatic haha ya man you got that right... but like they say, if you try and you havnt succeeded, that just means you have to TRY HARDER and HARDER either until you get it right, or you cant move anymore, whichever comes first
  23. haha ya dude when i just started fishing i got one and some random dude INSISTED that they were protected, saying things like 'if you look it probably has 10 hook marks in its mouth' and 'ive caught heaps of these here before and always threw them back'... had a fight with me on the spot... HA, i was thinking - bro, if you have caught heaps of these here, what does that tell you? that they are a rare fish or they are a plentiful fish? and if they are plentiful, does that lean towards them being an endangered species or not? but ya, they are bloody EVERYWHERE these days and its the main reason i have stayed away from yarra bay for a while i really cant be bothered reeling it all in, climbing down the jetty just to find one of these things have swallowed my gamakatsus... they pull hard though haha as my brother says 'at least it keeps you occupied' oh btw i think the pj breeding season has almost passed and its almost the end of their season now so yeah... dunno where i heard that from though...
  24. haha hey dude thats right eh, the first time i went to maroubra i caught a salmon almost as soon as i got there... know what i said?? 'now my life is complete' ah yes quite a few people have told me that... i originally went fishing off the rocks quite a bit and i wanted 20lb to respool but tony didnt have 20lb on the day thats why i got 25... hmm perhaps a respool is in order... 10lb eh?? have you got any brand recommended?? im currently using yo zuri and i quite like it, but if you have something else tried and true, that would be fantastico... thanks mate
  25. haha ya thanks man, youll vote for me if i enter it in the comp wont you?? na bro, i below to the CANT CATCH A BLOODY THING FULL STOP/depression caused by no fish society!!
