  1. Im with you roberta , dont use burley as I so often need an excuse to go the next day. Have run out of people to give fish to. Find it never rains but it pours. Good luck at COFFS tomorrow, good to get a feed on the way.. GREG
  2. yeh you can tell by the sunburnt face how long it took to catch the fish....
  3. Out of 15 caught this was the best I could do.
  4. No burley... seem to avarage a bite about every 10 mins if they are on fhe chew...do you think burley would help?
  5. Hi all Went out for blackies today fishing with two baits about 25 cm apart. Couldnt believe one fish would take two baits so hard, and swallow both hooks. Suppose it saved the second hook getting tangled in the landing net as it usually does. Has any one else had a similar thing happen?
  6. Hi Webby I try to go fishing before work sometimes. I fish for blackfish, the bait dont smell... only end up smelling like fish if I catch one.. as they say, not a bad day if you end up smelling like fish
  7. Thanks... love the blackies, I usually will try before or after work. There is a lot around at the moment greg
  8. Hi all, Just home from fishing across the road, had to write in and say what a top day! Went this morning, sat 1 hour with nil downs...mind you the weed I was using was about 10 days old. Thought to self time for some fresh stuff, quite a challenge as the swell is up. Went across road to fish up to the high this arvo at 3.30. They were certainly on the chew. Caught 15, released 13 all between 30 and 40 cm, and kept a 45 and 47. Both males(they squirted when out of the water) Will post photo of them when partner gives camera back. Hope they do not go out of shape and look deformed as they do after a night in the cooler. Tight lines Greg HAVE CAMERA BACK...HERE IS THE 47 CM MODEL
  9. Wow Roberta sounds like you had a great day out, really exciting when there is big fish around. I can read the passion you hold for the art of the blackies. May there be many more days like it and maybe you can land the bite of the day! Greg

    Back To The Bay

Hi all. Its a shame I could not make it on such a beautiful day. Was driving to work and saw the banner set up. I only live across the road!!!!!!! Had looked at roster weeks ago, knew I was working and had forgotten about the social. Was dressed in uniform and would have looked out of place if I stopped to say gday...by the sounds of it was a great day. By the way Roberta those little rock walls jutting out from the sand are just as good as they look, as I mentioned just across the road and very close to my heart. Greg
  11. THANKS Royce, yeah I cant work them out either. They keep us guessing, suppose thats the beauty of blackfishing..Greg
  12. Your a true champion Roberta.. they certainly do keep us guessing, I have found some corrolation with this mumbo jumbo moon stuff.. keep records and some of it starts to make sense.. Regards Greg
  13. Yes thankyou Roberta, I have not really been able to get this pungent weed before. I CERTAINLY PULLED A PB with it but wow does the fridge smell!!!!!!!! They are FUNNY THINGS OUR BELOVED BLACKIES, what they go crazy over one day they wont touch the next. Makes it confusing
  14. Hi all you blackfish addicts. I have been fishing for these gems for a couple of years now, with varing results. Have tried many different types of weed collected from different areas. The other day I was at the local tackle shop and saw some frozen weed. I got some and when it defrosted it had a real distint odour which I had not experienced before. I thought this weed is off! , and didnt use it as it reeked. Anyway just recently I collected some weed from a new location and for the first time after storing this weed in the fridge overnight(as I usuallt do) to my surprise the fridge reeked of the same smell. I knew the weed was fresh so I went fishing with this weed that had cabbage leaf in with it and the blackies went wild for the cabbage tainted with this odour... coincidence or does anyone know if this smelly weed is actually what we should be fishing with. Anybody know the odour I speak of?
  15. Hi billy.... fresh squid, try a squid jig, they look like stoned prawn but work like a swiss watch. careful not to retrieve to quickly. Very effective over weed beds.. Hope this helps Regards Greg
  16. Nice afternoon... GREAT FISHING... good on you. I also went for the blackies(thats all I go for these days) this sarvo at capt cook. All the indicators were there moon, tide, and sunset. Same results, a down nearly every cast ended up with 6 up to 35 cm, although got busted off 3 times and dropped many more, just were not sticking on the hook. They came on the bite about 3.30 till dark, when I once again busted off and it was too dark for me to re tie hook on.........dont you hate getting old. Good to see a similar result at another location. Regards Greg
  17. Know the feeling webby... ending up in the drink was the scary bit. Baggy cloths and big swell slamming onto rocks. The hard part is trying to get back out! Each swell would take me back up to shelf level, but then backwash off the shelf would wash me back in and under about 6 ft in the waterfall effect. Took me 4 goes till I actually stayed on the shelf by gripping barnicles(mind you the 3 previous attemts didnt do the finger tips any good as I slipped back in. Anybody else out there been in the drink and like to share their memorable unexpected experience?
  18. TYhankyou DR CHRIS...HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR TREATMENT
  19. Hi Jess Blackfish are rated as fair to good table fish. I think a lot of people get a bad idea about them due to their name...dont let that fool you, they are great my personal favorite. Nice white flesh. Regards Greg
