  1. Nice work. The bream are a bit quiet at the moment in my opinion, so you done well.
  2. Nice catch, never really caught Kings before, how do they fight??? Good i imagine...........
  3. Thanks Dave, yeah it seems to be working, although i can't take any credit for it as Flatties arent that picky when it comes to soft plastics. Its such a great area down there huh. Yeah, i never have much success with the metal lures on the schools. My theory is it spooks them. Where as SP's don't so much. I find if they're particular picky, then i'll go down to a 2" grub of some sort in a white/silvr colour, they usually love them.
  4. wow! 38, thats crazy! What bait were you using? They're definately turning up a tiny early this year huh
  5. Yeah, i don't think that grin came off all day!!!! He's officially hooked! Aloosh, that was something i did notice- they were particulary healthy flattie hey, they must be hungry.
  6. least you got a good feed inbetween all that rubbish!
  7. nice one there! and look forward to more posts from you, Shan
  8. My young mate Keelan and i headed out Saturday to patonga to thow some plastics around. Started off slow with the odd undersize flattie, hoping Kez would hook something big ( he's only starting out), and as he tried a cast a bit out from the shore, let the plastic drop and he's on with a classic sambo on light outfit, - exactly what the doctor ordered for a beginner. With such light gear, he was on for a good 10mins. Continued to catch more flattie, until Kez hooked onto another bigger Sambo. Once the southerly came up, we boated over to the shore at F&S and chucked some plastics around between the weed beds and picked up two more flattie. Caught 12 all up plus 4 tailor and the two salmon. Also went out monday morning, on freeway at 5am, trailor tyre blows, have to wait till 8am down in Gosford for tyre, just a crappy start with my useless set up. Finally got out at 10am, started off slow on the bottom of the tide, when it started to come in, things picked up, the flatties hit those 4" power minnows no hassles. Got 13 all up, kept a few for a family BBQ. Hope you're all well. Shan
  9. Any tips on how to get my wife keen???!!! Patience is not her best quality if ya know what i mean. I was thinkin of finding a school of salmon and hit em up with some light tackle..... that could work!!! ha ha!!!
  10. Never tried them, always considered they're bad. So people actually do eat them??????
  11. Great catch Kat, you've done well. Shame being 10 grams off. Would love to join the lake maq club. Is there any website to join that you know of.... Where abouts were you fishing in the lake?
  12. I live up around Toukley area and my philosophy is that The Entrance opening up is great and will do it wonders but, the lake always looks unhealthy. Is it just me or has something else gotta happen to improve quality consistently........... Was there ever an outlet to the ocean at Lakes?? I think that would drastically help.......
  13. Great catch! I'm so glad my type of fishing i do doesn't involve those pesty jackets. all i ever hear is, "we lost heaps of rigs" etc etc- i don't know how you guys put up with it!
  14. Lovely fish guys. Would love to get onto the Bass at Glenbawn. What sort of setup were you fishing?
  15. I just ate the flattie fillets tonight..... and yes......... mmmmmmmmmm!!! It was quite funny actually..... i went onto the old faithful Youtube and learnt how to fillet fish, including the different technique for flathead- Here's the fruit of my efforts!!!! Ha Ha! It doesn't look that bad, but i have 4 more of those!!!!!! I'll get better i spose! Ceph, to answer your question, i haven't actually got into the gulp's yet, that was just a normal power minnow. I have used the squidgie's- esp the balck and gold/gary glitter ....squidgie fish i think its called- for flattie. I also use the wriggler in bloodworm for bream. I usually use the 3" power minnow for bream with 1/16 oz jighead, and as in the pictures, the 4" with a .... i think it was a 1/4 oz jighead. The reason i use that big of a jighead is my theory is that it really thumps into the sand on the drop and makes a much bigger stir when it hits. I could be wrong, but it seems to work
  16. Thanks to everyone for all of your welcomes and encouragements on my lack of gear- much appreciated!! Looking forward to reading all your posts and getting to know you all. Shan
  17. Hi there, my name is Shannon, i'm a 23yr old married man, who loves SP fishing for bream and flathead. I'm obviously new to the forum so hi everyone. Looking forward to joing the community you guys have going here and getting to know everybody. Here goes my first post; Put boat in (my crap ass tinnie that i have to put on box trailor-yes i know quite embarrassing! Newlwed on single income is lots of fun!!), got on water on sunrise, and headed off to Patonga/Dark Corner for some plastic fishing. Afetr 15 mins of nothing, the sun came up and so did the flatties. Fished for about 3-4hrs, catching 15 flatties, 12 of them legal. I was using the old faithful 4" Berkley minnow in watermelon. Just when i was content and ready to head home, i saw a biiiiigggg surface rise behind me, guessing what it was, and keen to have a bit of fun on my super light outfit, i threw the plastic towards it, and sure enough, a 5min plus fight with a 2-3kg salmon followed! Had him right up to the boat and in one last attempt, he did a jump and spat the hook. It was ok, all the fun was already had! Then i got onto a school of tailor hitting some whitebait and caught 4-5 legals, - also loads of fun. So all in all it was a top little outing Hope these pics works- not sure what i'm doin yet PS- thanks go out to Ray for the tips!!!!
  18. Hi Ray, i'm new to the forum, was trying around Patonga area with SP's but no good as it was blowing a gale. What area did you work around there? The rocks leading onto dark corner or the southern end??
