  1. Headed out to South Kincumber first for a flick with my mate.. but wind was gusting, and was a useless venture. So headed round to Davo and with no wind, was a fun session. Pulled about 8 just legal bream.. (released), and a few leather jackets. Stayed for about 2 hours and finally got a feed, an over 40cm lizard. Headed back to South Kinny and yanked a few blue swimmer crabs of the 8cm or so range. So with the leather jacket from the day before, was a good feed Plus we caught this other fish.. looks like a rock Cod.. but I have never seen it before.. is this what it is?.. (see pics)
  2. Well after a big night on the , (wifes birthday), ended up sleeping in till 7:30, then had to shake my mate awake at his house and finally got the boat in around 9.. headed out to kincumber racks, but being in the bigger boat, was a hard pull to land any fish chucked some plastics, then some bait... so headed back to south kinny, with no luck. About 11:30 headed round to racks near lintern street and only pulled some sand whiting from the side of the them with bait, and no bites after. So with an hour to go before social meetup, headed just outside of woywoy channel and threw some pillies on big gear in hope of monsters (no luck) and spun some small bait for a decent flounder.. So was a slow day on the BW but was good to meet up with the boys at Woy Woy.. just gotta remember next time to take a portable BBQ..
  3. Went down to my fav jetty at South Kincumber again this arvo, and had a good fun arvo. Started off slow retrieving some sp's and got nailed by tailor about 6 times.. (damn choppers) so switched to bait to save my sp wallet, and pulled in about 6 tailor most over the 25cm mark. Some old bloke rocks up and is giving me a history lesson on the area, not a bad bloke with heaps of local knowledge. Then I pull in a few just legal bream, but I want a biggen.. so keep baiting up.. then this bloke and his kid come over and start fishen. Nice bloke, had a beer with him, while his kid fished. Next minute the young bloke drops his rod so I offer a hand line to try and retrive it.. took awhile but the bloke got it back.. much to dad's relief Then the young bloke pulls in a nice fish, I grab my net (they didn't have one) and pull his 30cm leather jacket out for him.. he takes a few photos, and offers me the fish... why not, I aint got a feed yet. Well my next cast hits the water.. and BAM.. something nearly rips the reel from its seat.. I tighten my drag a touch, and start to work it in,.. its big and takes ages to get it even close, it keeps punching off deep and away. I finally get it within about 3-4 metres of the jetty, and the other bloke has dropped his rod and is jumping up and down with my net, telling his kid that this a gunna be a huge fish. I work it in a bit closer, and give a decent yank to sop it bolting under the jetty and cutting me. Well just as I was pulling it towards me BAM.. it jumps ship... I AM SPEWIN!!! the bloke is also spewin he wanted to see this great fish.. what a fight from a jetty. Never have I had one like it. Unfortunalty I dunno what it was as it never surfaced, but DAMN it fought hard. Bloke was eggin me to catch it again.. I wish. Can only think either HUGE bream, and bigger than soapy Jew. In the end I came home with the leather, and should make a decent feed tomorrow. Will hit it again tomorrow, to bag some bream hopefully to make a family feed. Cheers, Coasty
  4. Cheers guys, Yeh I might make the trek to ATB... but if not I got some good spots to look at now. Thanks Coasty
  5. Hey all, I am heading down to Bobbin Head on Sunday, for a picnic with family and friends. Was wondering if there are good spots for the kids, plus for my mate and I to flick a line. Will be going by Car... no boat.
  6. Nice fish mate... I really am due for another session outside
  7. Thanks for taking us out tyrone. Was happy to get my first sp bream, but yeh conditions were ordinary to say the least. And that bream you caught tasted great
  8. Had the arvo off today, so headed down to my south kinny spot at about 12. Decided to avoid sp's today and just used blue bait and anchovies. First cast pulled me a 25cm leather jacket.. he went back in to fight another day. Stayed till about 4, and in that time pulled lots of great fish, Tailor, Mullet, Leather Jackets, Bream and Lizards. The lizard was a good size at over 32cm.. but not legal so he went back.. I kept my 2 best bream.. one at 26cm and the other at 27cm. Nice and fat too. Coasty.
  9. Priced a Daiwa 103P baitcaster today for $699.... is that a good price, or over kill for a noobie?
  10. Hey guys, No budget yet... prob be between about 5,000 to maybe... 16,000... depending what my accountant says...and the bank man. Spoke to Wakd today... thanks mate for the great convo you sure can talk... (bloody salesmen...HAHAH) but yeh polys sound insane, but gotta try and justify with the missus 16G on a bream boat.... I am working on it.. still if i dont get the nod this time,.. I am still buying a bream boat, but might be second hand.. if anyone knows of one?
  11. Well after pricing all the fixing and motors and all that on my bro's boat. Have conned the missus into letting me buy a bream boat. This is where you guys come in Having never "owned" my own boat.. I want one I can launch myself, has casting decks, etc etc.. pretty much something that could be taken in an ABT would be cool. But of course not as ritzy as some of them I am looking at new to start with, unless price gets too out of hand, with at least 2 seats.. would love side console, but ones I have seen new go for way more than budget. Any ideas appreciated.. it will be for estuary, and crossing into pittwater hawkesbury etc... plus road trips to glenbawn, and many other areas. Not really looking at the family option as much anymore, but something I could if needed stick 1 or 2 extra removable small fold up chairs would be good. I have a mate of a mate selling a side console... for about $9,000 but haven't seen it yet.. will get some pics and specs of it this week, and you guys can give me the lowdown. Cheers, Coasty
  12. Yep they usually have rod holders on the rear, and if ya wanna troll, I hear a decent spot is between the 2 bridges.. the road and rail near brooklyn.
  13. Took the young bloke down for a fish at the wharf at South Kincumber/Davistown today. Tide was on the run out and there was a couple of blokes there already trying to catch... well I dunno what actually...using massive weights and small hooks with boat rods . But they did catch 1 or 2 small leather jackets.. not keepers though. I started by rigging my 5 year old up with blue bait on a small hook on his "New" rod and reel I bought him today..(grin from ear to ear on him got him a Shimano Alivio 2000f and an Abu Muscle Tip 1.8mtr), and I started throwing some plastic about (#2 Squidgie Wrigglers 65mm Silver Fox).... but the bloody leatherjackets and tailor just kept chewing em up, so switched to bait, and caught 3 nice bream.. all just under legal unfortunatly, and a few tailor. Took son home about 4:30pm, and headed back down for another hour or so... started with bait again, and caught some babies, and 2 decent bream.. not keepers, and then switched to plastics again. Well this time I used some berkley 3" power minnows (pumpkin Seed) and something was just blowen em away.. being a noob at sp's I didn't land any, but something was going nuts on them. So all in all a fun fish for the fights, especially one of the larger bream, trying to break me off around the poles, but alas no keepers, and still no fish for me on sp's. Cheers, Coasty
  14. Dont have a map with public moorings... but they are everywhere and even if its not a public mooring, most of them hardly ever get used.. just grab one and moor up... They dont have a sounder not made for fishing and the 12 foot tinny is usually an unstable plastic job with a 2hp on the back.. and I mean unstable
  15. Mosh... I did the same thing recently for a bucks night weekend.. was a good time, except the boat broke down 3 times wont use that company again... But I found (depending on size of housebaot, we had the 45 footer) that getting into areas is a little difficult. Gunya Point was a good spot to drop anchor and pull some tailor, and refuge bay was good also for bream and flatties. Cowan creek is good, but a few good looking areas of it are off limits to houseboats, as is places like flint and steele etc. But if you head up Smiths creek, there is some decent spots, that we found... just remember the houseboats can't be used after nightfall at all... so anchor in a sheltered spot, or grab a public mooring, before dark.
  16. Sounds good to me too Be a good way to enter the world of competition

    Crab Id

I saw about 6 of them today. I went for a flick down at south kincumber, about 1hr or so before dead low tide.. and the piers of the jetty were covered in them.. and they were making strange clicking noises, just below the surface of the water. Caught myself a nice flounder too
  18. Thanks m8... will have a look at them, I really want a good rod this time round, my old baitcaster rod (cheap crap) was junk. And yeh I think I will just go a $150 or over kmart or big w job for my son, he will love it.. I signed him up for the Shimano Junior Anglers thing, and he was stoked with that So Adrian, do you mean my eggbeater is gunna be better for bream?,,, I love my Shimano NAVI 4000, I got 6lb fireline on and its a great reel with the silstar diamond power tip rod, very smooth and comfortable... wanna be for the price But I really want a baitcaster for that thumb flick feel... and as bass are an elusive dream fish for me, I will use it as a general rod/reel combo in conjuction with my Shimano setup. I have not used baitcasters much, what do most people use them for?... by this I mean what kinds of fish do you normally fish for with a baitcaster?
  19. See my posts on Westfield owners ship... was it similar? http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/inde...opic=4250&st=15
  20. Hey, I am looking at buying myself a new baitcaster and rod to match. First off I looked at cheapo's from Big W, and for around the $160 mark you get a decent little combo with cork grips etc.. (Shimano) But I have decided that I will use this rod/reel alot, and need a decent one. I dont wanna spend over $400 all up, and I will use it for bream, lizards and the like in estuaries. Your recommendations are appreciated. PLUS... I am want to buy my son a rod for his sixth b'day coming up soon, he has this crap thing I bought ages ago for him, but he loves his fishing with me, so wanna get him something decent, but not overboard, as he will only be 6. Should I buy a tackle store rig, or just a cheaper big w shimano setup. Your ideas appreciated. Cheers, Coasty
