  1. Gday all I recently picked up a cracker of a deal on a Wilson Heritage series 12' 1 piece rod. It is a med mount so she is made for a spinning reel. Trouble is I can't find any details on line weight or reel size recommended for this rod. I looked all over Wilson's site and googled to no avail. Does anyone have any specs for this rod? Thank you Bear
  2. Just remember not to use iodized salt. I'm just learning this technique myself and it makes the bait heaps easier to handle on the hook. Cheers Bear
  3. Any comments on Balmoral Wharf? I've been googling and at least some times it seems pretty good to at least give it a go and have some reasonable parking in the area Thank you
  4. Awesome,, Thanks for the post it was a good read on this cold rainy day in Sydney Bear
  5. Gee whiz, Great replies everyone. Depending on the weather we might give Balmain wharf a go. Is there reasonable parking in the area? Bear
  6. Hi All My son (15) and I would like to try some land based squid fishing around Sydney this Saturday if the weather is ok. We can drive or take public transport if needed we just don't know where to go. We are rank beginners and never caught a squid before. We've been watching youtube so think we are ready to have a go. Is this time a year doable for squid? Cheers Bear
  7. Gee with all this bad weather this past weekend it could be grim this coming weekend. My son is pretty keen to get out this coming weekend the long June long weekend here in NSW. If the weather stays reasonable and the seas calm down any Idea's of what might be left to fish. (Land based) \ Cheers Bear
  8. Hobie is not the cheapest but the Mirage Drive certainly solves your shoulder issue https://youtu.be/D0rvFdLdplA
  9. Looks good mate. I want to do something similar. Are you going to drive with them upright or upside down? Bear
  10. What sort of reel ? Spinning ,, Bait caster overhead style, or Alvey Mono or Braid for your line?
  11. Hi all I'm new to Kayak fishing,, I'm on the bigger size 105kgs and 6' tall so I need something suitable. I've done a lot of fishing from Canoes in North America but never fished from a Kayak. I want to fish Georges river, Hawksbury, and basically Sydney area. I see lots of people recommend Hobie but Gee their prices rival good used Tinnys. I've been looking at a 2010 Hobie revolution 13 and will be going to have a look at it in person. My main question is with the poly Kayaks just how durable are they? There are numerous threads about Hobie's cracking near the Mirage Drive and seat mounts. Any advice is appreciated Bear
  12. Hi all I was at my local BCF (Campbelltown) and on the clearance rack they had some of these (by) Wilson Blue steel rods for $30. The sticker says they are made in Malaysia to an Australian design. I picked up 2 even though I don't need them lol but thought they looked alright for $30. Do any of you have one of these and how do you find it? I'm thinking mostly at flicking plastics. I got one ultra light 2 to 8lb and one light 6 to 14lb one piece 7foot Bear http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Wilson-Blue-Steel-Spinning-Rod-7-Pelagic-1-Piece.aspx?pid=355727&menuFrom=301#Recommendations

  21. Thank you, Is boat coding the same as registration? IE if my Tinny is not going to travel over 10 knots do I need a boat coding? I didn't have it registered before but that was a few years ago.

    My old boat

Greetings all, I have a 10 foot tinny that I bought in 2007. ;I used it a bit and then parked her in the garage for the last 8 years or so. So now my son is keen on fishing and his grandfather now in a care home wants to fish as well so I thought I would resurrect my little boat. Problem 1. Unfortunately I let the rego on the trailer lapse. The trailer is a bit rusty but looks sound enough. It is a small handmade job. Really kinda small for the 10ft tinny but that is how it came. I'm going to go have a look at a place that does blue slips to see what they require but wondering if anyone else has tried to re register an older trailer and if fixing it up was cost effective. Problem 2 My tinny had a few leaks in her that got sealed with silicone before I owned her. I'm wondering if this is a good idea or not. ; Is welding aluminum patches cost effective? I'd have to pay someone to do that. Do I need to register a 10 foot boat with 4hp motor these days? It was unclear when I was on the maritime website. Problem 3 The motor has not been used and just sitting those years in my garage. I have now taken the motor in for a service and so far so good with it. I'm debating with myself how much cash to throw at this boat or look at something else. It is going to be used mainly as an estuary fishing boat for 2 or 3 people. It was good last time I used it but it has sat unused for a number of years. The trailer is probably the biggest concern.Obviously my decision but just curious if others have done similar Thank you for any advice Bear
  23. Gday all, Looking for information on how to fish for squid. I'd like to catch my own bait and perhaps if the squid are right then some for the table. I live near parramatta and assume that there would only be for bait. At anyrate I have no idea on rods reels line or anything other than a couple of jigs I picked up at BLAH BLAH BLAH on sale yesterday. Any help would be appreciated to get me started in the right direction. 73 Chris
