  1. Thanks guys,, I went with the FK 2500.. Will spool it up with some braid and see how it goes.
  2. I have purchased maps from Map Centre Parramatta before. My boat isn't big enough to store paper maps lol but they do carry nautical maps from memory. Cheers Bear
  3. Are you looking for paper or electronic charts? I've been using navionics on my tablet or phone which for what I do works well. Navionics
  4. I'm going to suggest something slightly different but perfect for your target species. Try an Aussie reel ALVEY Here is a post on another forum that pretty much gives you everything needed to get started. I almost exclusively fish with Alvey's when using bait from the beach. http://alveyanglersforum.boards.net/thread/153/alvey-beach-fishing-australian-salmon
  5. Hi all. I'm looking to take advantage of current sales and either get a Stradic CI4 fa (older model) or the new Stradic fk. Initially I will put this reel on a Majorcraft squid rod but who knows as I have a 1000 series reels and then 6500 nothing in between . I fish wharfs rocks, dinghy, and my kayak for the usual bread and butter fish. My son and I have been focusing on squid lately. ok I can only get the stradic ci4 fa in 2500 size. I can get the stradic fk in either 2500 or 3000. My understanding is that the only difference is the spool size or at least the spool's arbor for line capacity in the 2 fk models. From a squidding view do I lose any castability or have other adverse issues by choosing the 3000 size? I would use mono backing on the 3000 or at least that is my plan. fyi my 1000 series reels Penn affinity and Shimano Sedona leave my egi rod a bit tip heavy. I'm pretty much set on the fk but the ci4 is cheaper currently though the fk basically comes with a free sahara rod. Cheers Bear
  6. Go the Sharks!!! Watching with the dog tonight,,
  7. Yeah I never pay for the parking below. I drop off my son and gear and park on top. He's 15 going on 20 lol.. And good for carrying it back up the hill when the day is done. Bear
  8. How old are the boys? Assuming they are youngish I'll suggest Clifton gardens. Nice place for Mum too if she wants to relax. Playground, Picnic tables,Toilets, showers lol beach and a real nice Jetty for fishing. http://www.hellosydneykids.com.au/clifton-gardens-mosman-sydneys-best-beaches-for-kids/ Bear
  9. HI DG Thanks for the reply. I have a Wilson 10.6 Blackfish rod. I was told it is too short for using off the rocks. My local Tackle Shop has a JW Blackfish rod in 12' length and thought it might be worth a go. I haven't fished for Blackfish before so trying to read as much as possible. I have the next couple of days off with my son on school holidays so I thought we would give it a crack. We would not do the rocks but I think I would like to try the rock ledge south of Manly Beach another time. Bear
  10. Any ideas of where to get one in Australia? Bear
  11. Is that the wharf the Ferry docks at? Bear
  12. Hi All I'm looking for an easy place to have a go at catching blackfish in Sydney. I have my 15 y/o son with me and we have not fished for blackfish before but would like to have a go. Cheers Bear
  13. Mate did you get the Aurora Ocean Blackfish model? I'm curious how this rod would stack up on the rocks around Sydney. Seems pretty cheap. Cheers Bear

    Surf Reel

I agree Alvey all the way.. BUT his rod that he is trying to get a reel for is probably an eggbeater style not suited to the Alvey. But if it is a low mount mate get an Alvey you won't look back!! Cheers Bear
  15. Raising an old thread here.. Now that some time has passed whats everyone's thought on the Alvey 475cp? Still like them? Bear
  16. Alvey 650 (your flavor) matched to a 12 to 14 foot Alvey compatible rod and your set. I like the Wilson Live Fibre models
  17. Gee whiz for bait fishing mate you can't go past an Alvey setup.. A 650 combo will cost you less than $200 add some line and your ready
  18. My son hooked into yellowtail and undersized Trevally 2 weeks ago on salted cuttlefish as bait. It is also a good spot for squid. We love going there for a fish
  19. I just got off the phone with Wilson and I was told that this is a 4 wrap rod but not a multi taper like the MT series. It is more old school and so heavier and stronger. They rated the rod at lures no more than 85 gram with 65 being about perfect and line class of 15 to 20 pound. If anyone else is looking I hope this helps. Bear
  20. Thank you. Yes I tried that option too. They could only guess as much as I can. Funny Wilson didn't mark these rods better.
  21. Thanks Corb Mate there is no markings on this rod other than the label. It is brand new (i got it on a close out rack) but discontinued. I just called Wilson and the guy who is in the know is at a trade show but they did not have any info there unfortunately. It is beautiful and very old school but no markings
