  1. Hi all, I looked this boat and the Dealer states it is a Caribbean runabout. I can't find any other boat that look like this and was wondering if there is a specific model other than "runabout" ??? Also at 5.2m would the 4stk 70 have sufficient get up and go? Not for racing but to get up on plane with a few blokes on board? Bear
  2. Rick, What size is your boat mate 5m? How did the 60 perform?? Could you get on plane with a few blokes on board? Just curious when I'm looking at used boats and gauging if the motor is of sufficient size. Cheers Bear
  3. Ohh and I didn't buy the one you missed so it wasn't me Bear
  4. Here is one on Special with a Suzuki electric start - pm me for details

    Trim/Tilt

LOL ok that's not going to be my new boat
  6. I like a MT7144 with an Alvey 6.5 using 8kg line mate. Prawns for bait and plenty o burley
  7. Bundeena wharf is good at night.
  8. Interesting. I just googled deadrise and found this pic which helped explain it. SO the higher angle the more stable in the rough and the lower the angle the more stable at rest in calm seas?
  9. Wow that one looks pretty good mate. I'm chasing something similar for my boy and wife as well. I think I need something more than 4 meters so I won't take the carpet out from under ya. Bear
  10. It's not my boat,, just one of a thousand I'm looking at. So this is all I got
  11. What about a hull like this one ???
  12. Is there an age of Fiberglass you would say is too old? Like is the 1980's or 70's just too old for FG? If the Gelcoat is good and there isn't any cracks and the floor/transom seems solid is there a worry with older FG? Bear
  13. I was thinking this too mate.. I called a couple of dealers and was told in my price range they don't do show specials lol
  14. I have mate but I currently fish out of a 2.4 tender. My son and I just fit lol. I'm looking for as much space and stability as possible and not worried so much about speed. Anything faster than 2knots will be better than what we have lol. Though at least 10 knots would be good.
  15. Gday all I have $9000 cash and permission from the Mrs to buy a 4 - 5m fishing boat. I fish mainly with my 16yo son (very capable) and sometimes would like the Mrs to come along too. I fish the Hacking and Hawksbury mostly around Sydney. Bread and butter species and some crabbing. I'm currently looking at a 2017 Stacer Rampage 429 with 2017 Suzuki DT30 trailer NEW NEW NEW but nothing else $9k 2015 Savage Big Daddy with Etec 25hp power tilt trim, electric start 1 year warranty left. Bimini and lights but does not have all the safety gear. Allegedly very low hours. The boat looks like new. On consignment at a dealer $9k 2012 Brooker 410 Fisherman with 2017 Honda BF30 electric start power tilt trim 20hrs just serviced 6.5 years warranty. sounder, bimini, rod holders, anchor etc dealer owned (I think) $9k 2012 Anglapro 424 spec with 2012 Suzuki DT30 pull start with service records (yet to see) bimini, radio fm/am cd, rod holders, lights, sounder allegedly under 50hrs use. looks good visually Private seller $8K All of these are asking $9k give or take 10 dollars except the Anglapro which is at $8k I am having a real hard time picking one to focus on more than another. The new rampage with nothing else has a 3mm floor and 1.6mm sides which seems kinda weak. The Big Daddy and Anglapro both have 3mm floors, topsides, and transoms. and 100/120kgs heavier in dry weight than the Brooker The Brooker has 3mm bottoms and 2mm sides I think. I called Brooker and they changed to the beefier sides sometime in the mid 00's I've all but wrote off the Stacer due to the thin topsides and no gear. Motor wise I lean to and fro on the Honda vrs Evinrude,, Though the DT30 has been around forever and simplistic/reliable When except for the private seller we are talking the same amount of money (without bargaining yet) do any of these hulls or motors stand out or fall down? I have googled to death just about everything and driven my poor friends mad with asking questions so well I thought I would ask here too lol Anything major I'm missing? Cheers Bear
  16. I've been taking the online test over and over and I seem to pass most everytime without studying. I'm confused by the way it is setup can I just take the "practical" without paying for the whole course. The log book method states you need three different dates to be "assessed" instead of where going to a RTO you only need the one day. If I can pass the written test can I just do a one day to get my practical done at a RTO? Can I take a mate with a current lic (3 years) fishing on my boat 3 times and have him initial it or do I have to be on his boat? Bear
  17. Are there any site sponsors that provide the training? I'm in South West Sydney (Ingleburn) if that helps Bear
  18. Hi all, I had a Boat Driver's licence for a number of years with the last one expiring in 2010. I haven't had need since then with kayaks and 2.4m tender driving only. I'm looking to purchase a tinny and I see the rules have changed and now you need a course and I think I'm outside the grace period to just renew (5 years). From what I'm reading I have to attend a theory and practical course? So I'm looking at these "training joints" and they are asking $230 to $300 for one adult to do their course. Does that include the fee for maritime or is the maritime fee on top of that as well. so given the cheap option I found would it be $230 plus $59 to get me legal? Anyone tried to use Recognized prior learning RPL for the course and just sit an exam at Maritime? Cheers Bear
  19. I haven't seen any import copies. Not saying there isn't any. I think it is more that Alvey reels are an old design. They just work as they were always intended to. Problem is these days people are always looking for the newest thing, not necessarily what works the best. I'm an avid Alvey user and more than sad to see another part of Australia dissappear.
  20. Truly depressing reading,, I like the section on What is the government doing about it?? lol the answer is to issue pamplets
  21. I always grab some garbage left here and there and walk it the 50 meters to the public bins there. I would say though that a lot of that garbage is left from Ferry passengers or kids using the wharf as a swimming platform (BTW swimming from the wharf was banned too) Bear
  22. Hi all My son and I have been fishing off the Bundeena ferry wharf in the past and I've seen the NSW Fisheries sign that depicts common fish and size bag limits.. Recently the council upgraded the wharf and now there are several signs that state no fishing or at least I first noticed them. Have I missed these signs in the past or is it something new? Bear
  23. I like the nets by "Hook Em" quality is second to none and they are certainly not flimsy,, pricey but worth it. I wondered if I over did it when I bought mine but it is so solid and well built I forgot about the price after using it a few times Hook Em Bear
  24. Hi everyone. I got either Thursday or Friday free for a fish. Just me.. I got all the gear (I think) but haven't got a down yet. Anyone going out in the Sydney area and would mind a shadow to see how it's done? I don't have weed or cabbage at the moment but could fetch some Cheers Bear
  25. What line did you go with? I've been using Berkley Fireline 6lb or 10lb over the years
