  1. Gee thanks Shakey I didn't know there was a mechanic that close Bear
  2. I was fishing near a boat ramp yesterday. (Sorry if you are on here but you provided us with good entertainment) A largish 6meter + boat on a dual axle trailer (looked reasonably new) was backing in and was trying to jerk the boat off the trailer. The trailer popped off the ball on the tow vehicle and lucky for them the safety chains kept it attached to the 4wd. I was interesting to see them having to back the trailer completely under to get the boat to float off when the draw bar was close to dragging the ground. They did get it launched eventually. Bear
  3. Thanks for all the advice Rick. I really appreciate it. I found a 1 piece Wilson MT8144 for under a 100 bucks .. I'm getting it sent via courier lol lets see how that works out. Bear
  4. Well the hacking showed none of that today lol. Too many boats and commotion.. Still a good day out. I'd love to see something like that Bear
  5. I was at my not so local favorite shop today. They had some 1 piece mt8144 setup for Alvey but the owner suggested a fsu 5120g as a better option. I'm not sure about that and concerned about the g which stands for graphite. Tapers were different obviously and the fsu was lighter but it was for spinning not Alvey though the reel seat distance to the first runner was identical. The shop would chop 6inches off the handle if I wanted. I baulked and walked out lol. I think the mt8144 is better and 100 bucks cheaper too
  6. I found this one https://tuckeystackle.com.au/alvey/1137-ozflex-fast-surf-fsu6120-2pce-alvey.html But it is on the other side of the country. Would prefer to find one locally. For that matter I'm not sure if I'm really doing any better than my BSU 365 7W 12 foot 8-15kg (3 piece) I looked at Dinga but nothing there. I called my LFS but they suggested a FSU4120 So I'll stick to my own research lol Bear
  7. Well this is starting to sound an awful lot like a custom setup. My Wilson Trophy's are 1 piece but worried with ratings to 10kg line only. Would there be a blank that is available today that would suit Groper if I have to go the custom route or is there an off the shelf solution I'm not seeing? Thanks and Merry Christmas Bear
  8. Rick So the fsu6120 that you setup were all 1 piece? I was hoping to get a 2 piece. Bear
  9. Sorry I was editing my post when you were answering Rick. I was looking at a OZFLEX FAST SURF FSU6120 2PCE Bear
  10. Hi All, I'm looking to put together a setup for Groper off the rocks at Sydney. I have some Alvey reels that I want to use or at least one of them lol 650BE1 Rockhopper 700C5 650A5 I'm leaning to the Rockhopper or 700C5 Hunting around the internet,, I'm seeing anything from 20 to 40kg line reccomended. On Alex Belissimo's site he suggests GroperSU9177 with 7inch ALVEY reel spooled with 25-37kg LineorFSU6120 with 7inch ALVEY reel spooled with 25-37kg LineorGH14 with 7inch ALVEY reel spooled with 25-37kg Line When I look at the specs for the FSU6120 from Ozflex they are rated at 10 to 15kg line. I can't find the others Is the 25kg to 37kg line and gropers way to much for this rod? I currently have at my disposal (but not shy from buying a new rod lol) Wilson Champion Trophy 13.6 foot (6-10kg line I think Champion trophy is not on current website) Trophy 12 foot 6-8kg line MT7144 12 foot 10kg line Excel Composites Custom rod BSU 365 7W 12 foot 8-15kg Butterworth Coastal Wave Breaker 4.45 meters 6-12kg line Whopper Stopper (no idea lol) looks about 12 foot stamped 7144 What rod (Still available for Alvey) would be suitable for my task? BIG GROPER off the rocks is my New Years resolution!! Cheers Bear
  11. Hi All I'm in need of a Tilt trim relay box for my 1995 Evinrude 115hp outboard. Other than ebay which has several used bit is there an Australian parts dealer that i can go to to find parts or is it better to seek overseas? PM's are fine if that is within the rules Bear
  12. No worries mate. It is all relevant. I'm following closely. Bear
  13. Thank You Zoran That does make sense now! Bear
  14. I've had batteries drop a plate before and I've read that the leading cause of trouble on the open water is a flat battery so I'm looking for some redundancy. Do you have any pics of your formply Zoran? I'm keen to see how you anchored those batteries in.
  15. Hello all I have a Haines Hunter 520 profish and want to install a second battery. Where the first battery is aft under the live well on the starboard side there is a small raised area on the deck I imagine where the battery straps screw in. Well that is how I got it anyway. Not enough room for another battery on that raised section anyway. I was thinking of having 2 batteries 1 for the .motor and one for sounders radios etc. Does anyone run 2 totally seperate systems on board or is the dual battery system the way to go? Also with a fiberglass floor do you build a battery box or screw in one of those plastic battery boxes. Any suggestions appreciated Bear
  16. I'd like to get my son to catch some nice snapper off our boat.
  17. anyone know of jig heads with circle hooks?
  18. Yes but they will get much bigger now for next time!!
  19. Very sad story.. I wonder if he was wearing a life jacket. I don't see it mentioned in the article. Bear
  20. Fab I thought you were going to say your son was the holder lol Bear

Gday Chris Welcome to Fishraider For tailor and salmon I like 7kg main line and 10kg trace. Make sure you use a quality size 10 swivel between the 2. For mono my favorite is Platypus classic in 15lb. Bear
  22. If you decide to use the FG knot I have a tool for that knot which makes tying it a bit easier. https://isofishinglifestyle.com.au/products/daiichi-fg-knot-assist-2-0 I really like the FG knot Bear
