Guys on the topic of sabikis does anyone know if R&R brand US made sabikis are distributed in Oz? AFAIK they're the only ones with stainless hooks...a godsend.

Downside is Shimano Aust won't touch it, and no ratchet; upside is 90% of parts are from TN40N. I have never been reefed with this reel Jack Erskine has beefed up drags for Kiwi jiggers to stop the monsters so further improvements are available Jig and Jig some more!

Agreed. My good fishing buddy from Miami, FL chased mahi's relentlessly for years. In Florida the default "fish & chips" from seafood shops is Mahi's. If they can withstand intense commercial & rec pressure from highly pressured waters then logic dictates Aussie stocks are not under threat.

Hi Raiders, Big schools of small Frigate Macks are on the chew in our beloved harbour. Autopsy revealed that eyes to 1.5"are the primary diet, sandy sprats 2-3"the secondary diet, terns and seagulls are the clue. Kombi & I had to work very hard this arvo in trying conditions to get a hook in, but it was well worth the effort with the UL spin stik in crazy angles, the poor little eggbeater howling in protest with me dipping the rod up to the foregrip to prevent hull/prop bustoff from the jet propelled craziness. Surely these unguided missiles are God's gift to swoffers I'll be better prepared for round 2! Jig

We use a PE 6-8 jig rod for 'rigging. I reckon it's perfect. 100% crossweave carbon designed for very heavy drag settings & vertical lift - downrigging is vertical heavy drag fishing (if u want a chance @ landing the prize). So carbon rods are OK if and only if you choose the appropriate style! If $300+ is too much to spend - go glass. Hope that helps with ur q's Jig

Robbie I had great success a couple of days ago slow trolling a pencil bait. The CD's were ignored as was the livie, the 3 kingis I caught smashed the 'cigar' right up in the prop wash, no more than 5m back. I'm convinced they love prop wash, tomorrow I'll try 4m back with "teddy torpedo". Poor old Ted, busted in the head Earned his keep today three kingis dead!
