That thar would be a Striped Sea-Pike Sphyraena obtusata Quote: "the tail itself is unmistakably yellow, giving them the commonly used name of YELLOWTAIL"...."These fish are always in demand as top-grade baits for Tailor, large Mackerel, and reef fish such as Snapper and Sweetlip" Should be great for the Jewies

Agreed Bro. Best album in a looong time. Heard a rumour of a vinyl release w/3 choices of album art?? Know anything about that??? Just heard tomorrows weather. Big Jack tells me stormy mayday

Brickman I'm totally with you on that sentiment. I only use the scotty offshore now, where I find it to be far more productive anyway. Craig McG summed it up in one of his reports: downriggers are great way to find fish but not the most effective way to catch fish. Good work & results on the never-say-die mission, gerG. Jig

Hi Ceph, Rompa mentioned he was knocking up some 'nevaz lose da stellaz' rod holders last time we caught up. Top work as always. I should have something 'a bit special' next month from the Rompa workshop. Stay tuned for the cunning plan... Sent you an email Romano. PS how long have the Bush Mechanics been FR's? Jig

You're welcome Dicko! I'm over Adult Day Care Afloat. Will be good to get out there & just fish...with a fisho -instead of explaining that a blood knot isn't a tourniquet. Nearly blew a pooper valve last week after spending a whole day tying knots for a supposed gun angler. I should have turned to FR first (slaps self) All you need to bring is your favourite gear & sense of humour. We will catch that giant leatherjacket you so desire lol. Pm'd you my contact details. I would be happy to have you aboard, Dicko. Would be good to have someone with a clue for a change! Jig

Trevors On Sat 20th - A Picture Can Tell A Thousand Lies!
Jigholio replied to Chewy's topic in Fishing Reports

I just spent USD$196 yesterday from a guy who specializes in closeouts, overstocks, repos & discontinued etc. Good gear too. Rapala, Storm, 7strand, Mustad, Sampo etc I estimated the $AUD value to be well over $400, even with the shitty exchange rate. PM if you want the details. PS I wouldn't object if you PM'd me about the Certate deal hmmyeah! Jig

Braid Runner Trolling Blades?
Jigholio replied to frangkie's topic in Gamefishing Tackle and Techniques
Hi Frangkie This style of lure although the 'latest thing' is nothing new. My Dad & I trolled the old Bladerunners (same thing) and also a Halco one (that I still have) around Cape Moreton & Flat Rock circa 1987. They were mack killers back then & very durable with the bonus of no line twist. I would say A Very Good Thing. tight lines Bro. Jig -
The critters that flicker and glow are called: (u ready for this?) Bioluminescent phytoplankton. Likely Noctiluca, Ctenophores or Dinoflagellates. They convert oxygen to light via chemical reaction. Dinos are responsible for so called "red tides" often accompanied by fish kills - they can leech that much oxygen from the water much like blue-green algal blooms in fresh water. I don't believe a red tide has been documented in Aussie waters. Tongue twisting biochemistry lesson ends/ Jig

PS do NOT use the supplied rod holder! It will only end in tears

The hooks will still rust out if not rinsed under fresh, the benefit of those rods is no tangles. If your issue is with 'bikis rusting out - not worth it If your issue is with 'bikis tangling up in everything - worth it Personally I go to the trouble of sourcing stainless hook 'bikis. Then a 'biki rod is definitely worthwhile. umkay? Jig

I always believed that Noddy was straight, Big Ears was innocent & both were non prejudiced. I also believed that Captain Pugwash, Seaman Steynes, Master Bates & Roger the cabin boy were innocent "happy" sailors. I believed that one day I would introduce my own children to golliwog dolls. I believed Kenny Everett was just a funny slapstick kind of dude (OMG he was a "slapstick" dude)! God I hate lawyers, & so called "civil libertarians" /end rant.

Sustain spools corrode prematurely according to some raiders, ironic name... I would buy Dodgem's Z20 saltiga, spend the rest on a rod: daiwa, shimano, pflueger are all good. You then have a top reel/line NO upgrades or fiddling required well below replacement cost. Lightweight & powerful, much better suited for downrigging than threadline. Do you want a NEW hyundai with riceboy wing & sports exhaust or a quality USED sports car designed for performance from the ground up? That is the question!

click here for a freeware line capacity calculator. If you know the diameter of your PE/mono/fluoro and the reel manufacturers spec it will do the rest...way cool Jig

hi Dan, Looking at your avatar the only ramp I would recommend is Soldiers Pt, abt 10-15min from NB. It's steep & into deep water, sheltered in anything but a howling westerly. Plenty of free parking & adjacent to a marina. Around the two marina breakwalls is a haven for rat kingis, watch for the subtle surface activity on the breakwall eddies during the run-out,(current is visibly fast). The big boyz are known to frequent the reefy headland adjacent to the Fingal lighthouse and are common to 16kg. Hang on!! Another hot spot is the Gibber. Maybe PM Ross Hunter for YFT info?? Please consult the PSGLMP chart before fishing any areas!! There's a starter for you Jig

An Alternative Live Bait Tank - A Submersible Weighted Cage
Jigholio replied to jewgaffer's topic in The Workshop
Jewgaffer you may already know this, you can buy something very similar to what you descibe from shops that specialize in freshwater gear. They work very well but must be rinsed down thoroughly to prevent corrosion. jig
