  1. Mondo Jewie right there That wreck goes off like a pecker at a bris
  2. PM Gofish Pete (site sponsor) or better yet take it to the shop, tell him your plans & leave happy. Daiwa/shimano it doesn't matter they both make butt-kicking reels. If you're really hell bent on getting a new rod I could use another Viper
  3. Keep the rod & upgrade the reel. BR's are great, I have two that get used a lot, but that rod deserves a quality reel with a better worm drive line-lay & drag to utilize it's full casting & fish-fighting potential. And no, I'm not a sponsor...I just lurrve that Viper!
  4. Figtree Point, Quakers Hat & Quakers Hat Bay are within rowing distance of Tunks and produce well at certain times. It's quiet ATM with these chilly water temps tho. Many yrs ago as a ruggie would row over to the wrecks at Salt Pan Cove with the other local kids & we caught some thumper bream & whiting near the wrecks and the dropoff on the full tide in summer. There were 0 swing moorings then!! Use lots of fine particle berley & no sinker. Jig
  5. Those pics would make George Lucas cry tears of joy. Un-freakin-believable
  6. Could be Outfisherii caranx a newly identified species!
  7. Bingo. PM if you want the locations Rizzo. those funny looking yo-zuri's in the 5 pack are dynamite on arrows. the whole body cavity can be filled with berley & a glow stick. Jig
  8. woulda been a knuckle smasher on the Alvey!
  9. True that. You're always welcome aboard here, mate. Jig PS I would have the matter heard in court. Twice I've in the same situation 10 & 14 yrs ago & the suspension was reduced to 1 month, the other commuted, yeehah!! 1. It was a very dark morning, you had to focus your attention on the ROAD in the interest of SAFETY rather than the speedo, there was NO OTHER traffic on the road for you to gauge speed. No pedestrians to be seen. 2. Speedometers are notoriously innacurate. ( I produced a dyno sheet proving >15% discrepancy). 3. Your livelihood & the welfare of a young family is at stake. Play this one to the hilt, (lose the home, take kids out of private school negating a 15 year waitlist etc, etc.) 4. You simply cannot perform your duties without a licence. Get a character reference from your immediate supervisor. Ensure there is mention of LACK of Public Transport and skilled bus drivers in Sydney, well documented in the media. The commuters and general public would suffer. Quote numbers of persons you transport(ed) daily, and what a valued asset you are. Have a copy of your driving record. Be prepared. Be courteous & respectful to everyone, RTA, Police whomever. Be humble but firm in your resolve. Always address the Magistrate as 'Your Worship' They love that shit, and they truly respect the fact you're being proactive!!
  10. I learned the hard way about sinkers & livies after watching a BIG kingi do the fandango with a yakka, one would zig & the other would zag, all very rapid - then the livie swum straight under the hull & it was game over. I had a Gordon Ramsay with tourettes moment as the light globe came on: ALWAYS have a sinker or better yet chrome slug no more than 1m before the hook to stop the bastard bolting for cover and/or fouling props, anchor warps etc. It should be just heavy enough to stop him rising (and jumping) but not so heavy it impedes his lateral movement. If using a float ballast it so he can pull it underwater occasionally. This encourages the livie to thrash even more...(i can make it home, i CAN make it home, go tail, GO) vey niiice. Rig an additional 2-3m of heavy leader above the sinker/slug either back to back uni or wind-on. Toothpick the float. A single J hook or 4x-6x suicide pinned east-west thru the nostrils for live fish, a two hook rig for small squid. I've tried circle hooks, the risk is the fish finding cover or the anchor warp before the drag is pushed up. Just leave the reel in gear on strike drag, the fish will invariably hook itself as it crushes the baits' head. I've used a 6500 baitrunner with the tension on full, all that resulted was deep-hooked fish...not good!! Kingfish think finesse is a female from Finland. There's no mystique about them they hit hard & go hard, it's purely a battle of wills. He pulls hard-you pull harder than a schoolboy at girl's camp. They tend to go ballistic when they see the boat, be prepared to dip the rod (or get dragged to the rail!) & back off the drag boatside/shoreside then reapply pressure quickly & repeat. Or you could just fish 2kg gear like my mate does. You'll hook heaps and land none...pure genius
  11. Anything come of the FR pennant sugestion?? Or are there legal issues with flying a 'private' pennant??
  12. Yes Brigadier Bundy has his own bunk which he shares with the "Bundy Goggles". The mission took it's toll on the Brigadier, he is looking quite lean. He is known to fraternize with milk on cold mornings, they are working on a black-ops project codenamed "Moreton Bay Porridge"
  13. ROFL you funny bugger! Yes that's three kingis hooked & 0 landed for bananaman, he goes for the "suicide stick" every time. He's totally in denial " that wasn't a kingi, it grabbed that big blob of squid guts only halfway down & then went vertical and popped me off - no way that's a kingi i didn't feel a tap tap tap nibble" meanwhile on the starboard side BWAAAH I'm cracking up just remembering it!!
  14. The CFTU* needs more keen eyed observers like yourself to protect our shores... Enlist Today!! *Counter Fish-Terrorist Unit
  15. Romeo your last, Mrsswordie. you can thank Vince (VA911) for the debrief. He's more motivational than Stormin' Norman.
  16. FISHRAIDER NAVAL COMMAND, SQUIDNEY AUSTRALIA WEDNESDAY 13/08/08 Mission debrief follows 0600: deployed the amphibious fishsweeper Furball from Tunks Base, accompanied by Admiral Chef. 0610: opened, memorized & destroyed our covert orders: Locate & capture the Bouillabaise Gang, with extreme prejudice. Using fresh intel, cartography & sonar we located the enemy camp at 0700, in 40 feet and cowering under a ledge adjacent to a reef. They had sent a full armada of recon scouts wearing Yakka uniforms. We had to act quickly before they telegraphed our presence back to their HQ At 0705 Admiral Chef gave the order to engage the enemy: Deploy reef pick & springer...check Deploy Burley depth charges topside & rockside...check Deploy XOS squidmines...check And then the key to our mission success - infiltrate the enemy camp with double agents. Our undercover men went in wearing the same Yakka uniforms. the Bouillabaise Gang was fooled, despite our agents obvious body piercings. The first capture came at 0710, positively identified as Seaman Wrasse, a lowly thief who supplies the enemy with stolen munitions. Admiral Chef believes this was a worthwhile capture. Second enemy capture was identified as Ensign Sweep, a Janitor. Hardly the calibre of crook we were seeking. Again Admiral Chef assured me this was a worthwhile capture. Third enemy capture was recorded at 0730, and was the principal target and leader of the gang, identified as Commodore Scorpion Cod, a known asassin & associate of terrorists whose speciality is torture with poison darts. A nasty piece of work to be kept at arms length. His lack of resistance & easy submission could only be descibed as Collins Class. 0900 -1000 two prisoners unknown to our intel were taken. Interrogation revealed they were from a seperatist army unrelated to our mission. the enemy had threatened their families with execution if they did not impersonate Bouillabaise gang members & surrender to us, an underhanded attempt to fool the good guys. They were identified as Sargeants Baker & Baker from Baker company, 101st Sandbourne. Released unharmed. Another key target, Commodore Cod's son AKA "Spike" was captured at 1015hrs. The Gang was leaderless and in disarray. In desperation they launched mossback torpedoes at the Furball, both missed their target. Both did however steal 2kg squidmines from the Admiral, and took them back to base. I had advised him to use 10kg+ squidmines against mossback torpedoes. The Admiral now took my advice. There was only one remaining significant Gang member at this camp on our blacklist: Ist Officer Cal Amari, en expat Italian dictator in the vein of Mussolini. The coward surrendered without resistance. The Bouillabaise Gang is French, after all! At 1230 hrs we relocated to the Kahawai training exercise grounds to practise target shooting. At 1430hrs we returned to Tunks Base & into drydock. Captain Crustacean and his Adjutant were also captured. Although not our mission, a large squidmine destroyer was taken See attached images from the brig, to verify key captures. XO Holio Fishsweeper Furball debrief ends.
  17. Line lay & torsion won't be an issue. You would not want to be sidelined on a hot bite from wrist fatigue/injury.
  18. LOL it was in a restaurant window in downtown (very downtown) Hong Kong. He was clearly in distress, lips all busted up and fins frayed, bashing into the glass. There's a lot of 'fish abuse' in Asia, very sad indeed

    Ice Boxes

Seems that most if not all rotomoulded PE boxes are generic Thai products which are badge-engineered to suit the global market. Mine carries an "outermark" sticker & will keep ice for about 5 days, they all work great. What are other Raiders' experiences?? Dirk Jiggler EDIT: I tried the techni-ice sheets. Good product which works as claimed, however there is some osmosis. They absorb fish slime & I can't get rid of the smell despite re-soaking and iodine treatment, the very best fish-smell killer. for packaged & sealed foods they are tops.
  20. Scienceman, have you tried marinading the prepped cuttle in kiwifruit juice?? Apparently kiwis have an enzyme that breaks down protein (Mongrel Mob are NOT enzymes). I've tried this & it's a treat, melts in the mouth Why is it so?
  21. WOW! I can see the outline of a shipwreck..must be Sailor's Bay but seriously, can't beat the birdseye view
  22. Brickman is correct, compass & hydro chart(s) of the area, you're also required to carry 2 litres of drinking water per crew member, secondary propulsion & wp torch. As Warnie mentioned having a drogue would be wise.
  23. It was fixed on tuesday, but the ramp itself was better b4 they 'fixed' it. ramp angle too obtuse at the NE end. SW end is ok. I almost had to back the car into water to retrieve at low tide
