No geographic boundaries for Fishraider records, Dave. A great fish is a great fish no matter where it's caught. Congratulations on the new record

Old flares can be taken to VMR. Not sure if all stations take them but my local VMR at Jacob's Well does.

You definitely get what you pay for with knives but for good value, Victorinox or Kershaw are hard to beat.
Sharpening in itself is a bit of a dark art. A steel (or ceramic rod) by itself wont sharpen your knives... it's not designed for removing metal from the edge. More for taking the burr off an edge and 'honing'.
It sounds like you need to put a new edge on your knife which you can do with stones or a sharpener. If there's a 'King of Knives' shop in your local shopping centre go in and have a look at the different kinds of sharpeners.
I got a Füri 'Fingers' sharpening kit about 18 months ago, on line. It's awesome and my knives have never been sharper but before that I used a set of graded sharpening stones.

The 'hurtling past' fish sounds like a Frigate Mackerel but I've never seen them jump and I don't know whether they're still around. Salmon maybe?

Well, you've got an answer. It might not be one you like but it makes sense to me... I've never seen small extinguishers checked before. I'd say it's like flares... they have a life expectancy and then need replacing.

Send a pm to huey at Hewitt Marine. They're Evinrude dealers and what huey (Craig) doesn't know about them, isn't worth knowing.
Craig's full details are here!

And that is one of the magic things about Fishraider.
There are some fantastic people around our forums who are not only great fishos but also great friends.
Fishraiders who weren't friendly might start taking odds on how long it will be until the new bevy ends up permanently decorating one of the many Tweed trees... but I won't do that (2-1 on that it's less than a month!)
Glad you had a good end to your day, mate. Sounds like you had a Barry Crocker until you got your care package. It just goes to show how confident Roberta has become with throwing lures around racks that she's able to part with one... you only have to read a few of her posts to see how many fish she gets on her Bevy Pencils.
Go see if any of the Trevs are still hanging around (but try not to throw it in front of one of the 20kg models)

G'day Baitfish,
I think both those reels might be a bit big and heavy.
The Shore Spin is a beautiful, lightweight stick rated at around 6-10kg from memory. I'd personally be looking at a 4000 size Shimano or 3000 size Daiwa... maybe a Stradic or a TD Tierra or similar.
Both reels would suit 15 - 20lb braid really well. They'll hold a heap of line in that breaking strain and cast a mile as well as being comfortable to be casting with all day. As an extra, they're small enough so you could load a 2nd spool with maybe 10lb braid for tossing really small metals a mile, at frigates or salmon when they're picky.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you can find out from the local fire brigade/station.

Happy Birthday Roberta... I didn't see the post... must have been during one of my Sydney stints. Sorry
Hope you had a great day.
Fantastic photos of the racks. Looks like you might need to get some heavy wire jig heads for when you pull out your 'elephant gun'. No sign of the 1lb Crystal in amongst those bream
Keep getting stuck into them!

Brilliant report, Bubba. Congratulations again on the win... top effort.

Having just opened up my brand new one, you'll probably do better by following my 10000CL post.
The new model has a significantly different drag and freespool assembly. The 10000 is a closer match.
All you need to do is make sure you have a camera handy and take photos at each stage. If you get stuck, just look back at your pics and you should be fine. If you get stuck, pm me and I can get on the phone and probably talk you through any problems. But they're really simple to service... much easier than the average spin reel.

Fantastic post, Meh.
Not only did I learn a whole lot but I laughed my face off doing it
Some great tips there. I'd never thought about repainting a reel even though I've had a couple over the years that could have been given the works. I've got a good quality airbrush too... maybe next time there's a candidate I could get busy.
Hmmmm a few stencils for some airbrushed flames???

Yep... and thanks for dobbing me in too, JH
Jewhunter is the best advertisement for them you'll find... not so much because he loves them but because they continue to love him back even when he drops them in sand, leaves them underwater during floods, fills them with mud, and generally neglects them. I'm surprised his pet dog Bonnie is still with us actually
I'll be stripping down my new 7000 to give it the 'preventative maintenance' treatment so if I can get organised I'll take photos and post it.
