  1. What on earth does someone's background have to do with stupidity.

This is a very worthwhile topic... rock fishing safety is a serious issue and wearing thongs on the rocks as an example is just asking for trouble.

The inclusion of race in these comments however, was and is unnecessary.

  2. Awesome experience and fantastic photo. They seem to be very inquisitive... had the same thing happen on the Gold Coast last season and it's more than a little scary to think about what they could do to a little boat with so much as a carelessly waved flipper!! :1yikes:

  3. I haven't seen one yet but there is a new 8'3" Lox Egi rod that's just been released too. David Duffy from Lox will be at the social as they're donating a rod... if you have a chance to get to the social and chat to him he may have one there to check out. You could ask him for locations.

Definitely talk to Wayhu (Y) or Mark from Global tackle too.

  4. I took the outfit down the back of the block and as long as the level-wind is centred, I can cast about 25-30m. As you'd expect, there's not much room for error with your thumb.

    The rod I'm using is a Silstar Travese-X 541... 5'4" 1-2kg. 4lb Fins braid.

  5. I spooled up, stripped down and tuned my new Abu 1500c today. Talk about good things coming in small packages.

I took it out the back to the swimming pool and was casting around some lures... small lures... reeeally small lures. It casts SX40s no problem. :1yikes:

For anyone who hasn't tried casting a 3.5gram lure with a baitcaster before, I can tell you that I'm waaaaay impressed.

And I haven't even swapped the bearings for Ceramic Hybrids yet.

  6. Don't know the size of Sustain drag washers but the washers that went into my Stradic were 4 x 19.5 x 0.9mm (inside diameter x outside diameter x thickness).

E-mail Dawn at Smooth Drag http://www.smoothdrag.com/ and I'm sure she'll be able to tell you... she'll need the exact reel model

  7. Swordfisherman will be able to give you the run-down on the Georges... he knows all the fish in there personally. :biggrin2:

In any system, the fish change behaviour as conditions change... but they don't just completely stop feeding for 3 or 4 months while it's cold. While feeding patterns change and different fish become more active in cold water, it's more likely to be just a day by day thing.

As a hint... find the bait. If you can find a location in the river where you can see bait fish, prawns and so-on... the fish won't be far away. Hopefully Swordy and other raiders might be able to shed some light on where that is right now.

  8. Congratulations KWK,

Sounds like you would have had a bit of a spike in your blood pressure with all that! You know you've got good mates when they make a sacrifice for you like that. Great result and fantastic fish

  9. The colour... and whichever one you prefer to look at.

Crystal comes in some different breaking strains... I've got 1lb 'silly string' on one of my outfits. I really like the white colour though and have some other uncoloured braids (that's the line's natural colour).

  10. Can anyone beat 5 years on owning a rod without catching a fish on it?

Sage SI2 9 weight rod with a Abel reel with optional arm!

    That's it!

This winter a salmon with have to do!

I bought it to take away up to cape york to chase Permit off the flats, cyclone stopped that :05: so I never had the opportunity to cast at a worthy species to blood such a nice outfit on.....

SO anyone got longer and why?

    Greg

    :Funny-Post:

Can't beat that, Greg. What about putting a 300gn sinking line on it and chasing snapper? Much more challenging than Sambos for you and a worthy, braggable capture on that nice outfit (I seriously love to read that post!). Just watch you don't snag up your line in the reef :074:

  11. I've had a couple of sessions in the tropics where I've caught stacks of big Sea Gars on fly... like being connected to a micro-sailfish. Great fun.

If you got small enough bait jig lures, it should work with the smaller southern estuary style gars.

  12. :biggrin2:

Just finished giving the 5600 the 'new reel service' treatment... grease all the hidden surfaces; clean the grease out of the level wind and replace with ReelX; pulled the spool bearings, opened them up and relubed with dry teflon lube; greased the carbon drag washers with Cal's.

Sweeeeet reel, beautifully made, spins like a dervish and pulls like a rhino.

If there's a fight over the reel, JH... the next mackerel to come on board might not get the donger quite hard enough and then get a gentle shove towards your crocs :tease:

1500 hasn't arrived yet... but it's next on my list. Loving it

    Cheers, Slinky
