  1. Hi Kit i dont enjoy catching them or handling the octopus but i do enjoy eating them, they made a mess of the boat, they made a mess of me and when i dropped them into the esky when they saw the fish they just squirted ink everywhere. Its a weird feeling when your handling them the suction cups start to wrap around your hands and there just so hard to get off. The way to kill them ive been told but i dont use this practice is to bite them somewhere on the head a old guy told me, i wont be doing that. I caught them drifting with yabbie bait i knew they where there because a friend of mine told me, Ive caught octopus there previously a few years back now and then they seem to hang around in the exact spot. cheers jim
  2. Hi Kinghightide we used yabbie for bait cheers jim
  3. Hi guys sorry about the late post, but the computer running as slow as botany bay, i had to fix it. Bream are very hard to find at the moment, caught 7 bream, 3 whiting, 2 flathead, 2 flounder, a trevelly and 6 octupus. Again most of the fish caught at the bottom of the bay, the only thing i caught at the drums were the octopus, and they were good size too. There seems to be some good whiting getting about with 2 i caught over 40 cm. I'm going to give it a rest for a few weeks and see if the bream fishing gets better. Most of the bream out there seem to be just over 25cm alot under i threw back 7 and a couple were just over 30 cm but most of bream are small. Regards Jim
  4. Hi Tony Just got back from holidays thats a good catch you got there, you picked the right day. I was going to go tomorrow but i think saturday will be better hopefully. I haven't done any fishing just drinking. Cheers Jim
  5. Check my previous posts on pages 51 and 63 from last year. Then you know why i say its a slow day. I've been fishing the bay for 10 years +. Regards from Jim Yeah we will swap email addresses and ill leave you my mobile number. I'm going out Tuesday again to see how things are out there. Regards to quibray bay and silver beach i do a lot of fishing there too but in the later months of the season. You get some really big bream there, but i don't think the time is right for these 2 spots at the moment, thats just my opinion. Regards Jim
  6. Hi Tony I fish mostly on the towra side of the bay up and down, I don't have a specific fishing spot because i always move. I find fishing the right hand side of the bay is a lot better than the left side of the bay (runway side). I think bloodworm is probably the best bait for bream and then nippers only because the bloodworm stays on the hook better. Years ago we used live prawn, they used to sell them in the bait shop since the trawlers left the bay we cant get it anymore, but was the best all round bait for all species. I don't fish the mouth of the river for the simple reason you have to fish it on the run in. When you fish in the bay it really doesn't matter run in or out tide. The fish bit as soon as i got out there, I was off towra, but then i decided to move up to target bigger bream and there was nothing further up so i moved back down just before i left but i ran out of bait, i picked up a few more from where i started. If you want to target bream you have to fish around towra, but don't sit there and wait for the bream you have to find them, that is how i fish, i search for the bream, i don't wait for them. With the nippers if you put them on right they shouldn't come off. Hook nippers through the tail and up through its legs. If you go through my last years posts you'll see why i say its slow. Bye from Jim
  7. Hi Tony The weed was everywhere, I think this is a problem when fishing once you reel the line in the bait gets tangled in the weed, I was using nippers and i had one bag of tube worms. I generally just use nippers but i used the worms for the whiting. I was in 6 to 7 ft of water that keeps the snappers away. Did you catch any bream?
  8. I hit the water at 6am bagged a few bream early on, after that it just died. Moved around alot, made 5 different locations, and only producing one fish per location. There was no fish on top of the bay what so ever. So i went back down to where i started and i bagged a few more and went home about 10 am, still very early and not much happening in the bay. I picked up a good whiting which was 44 cms another 2 at 40cm, a 36 cm bream and a 40 cm trevelly. Try again in the coming days and hopefully it will be better, but its very slow in botany bay.

Hi Mr Rosebay i had a mate too that use to use 12 pound line he used to catch nothing as well,ha ha. I believe the lighter the line the better chances you will have. I use 4-6 pound line varies between the four rods that i use. Each one is set up differently. And each one works differently in different conditions. Great Catch Some nice bream there this time of the year. I'm trying hard to get out there . I'm going to try get out this weekend, don't know what to expect. Cheers Jim Bream

  11. I dont have any secret spots but i can tell u the spots if you want them. i caught them off towra at the sticks and the drums their the spots i caught the fish. I usually fish off towra all the way up on the right side of the bay to the refinery.
  12. thanks penguin and tumra if only the little guy wasnt sick i would have really cleaned up if i had a couple more bags of worms
  13. Hi guys, not much fishing lately due to work, today was a must, last fishing trip was beginning of February. So i got the little guy and headed out, Got some worms knowing that there was some big whiting out there, But i only got 1 bag and that was the problem, and with the sea lice eating the yabbies that i pumped the day before, it was making things very difficult. Got there about 7.00 a.m and stopped at Towra and bagged in a few bream and a few whiting, the fish were very hard to find after that, moved up to the top of the bay and got some really nice whiting,1 was just under 44cm and 1 was 40cm, And the trevelly was about 40cm. On the run out tide things started to get really good but the little fella started getting sick, and he started to complain he felt very crook so we left the fish biting, ohh well what can you do? First time his been sick anyway i posted some of the photos of the fish, fish are there guys but u just have to find them, not the best of days.

  17. Just about fished out the little fella nagged me to go fishing because he missed out the other day and he wanted to go out because school commences on Thursday. And work commencing for me on Wednesday. Had a very good day but it was a little bit windy. Again a lot of undersized bream lost count how many were thrown back.
  18. thanks for the info well i just threw back at least 15 over 25cm oh well i had plenty any way
  19. Went fishing on the 26/1/08 with uncle john but the little fella was sleeping. Got out there at 6 am had to work very very hard to catch what we caught. Throwing back 22 bream that were just under 25cm but not sure whether you measure to the V of the tail or to the end of the tail could some one tell me where you measure these fish from. I caught a monster over 44cm which uncle john is holding. I will post more of my catches in the coming days.
  20. My son and I went fishing before new years at Botany Bay. This is my first post and here is some pictures of the fish we caught on the day.
