  2. Aimed at promoting the the work done by the Volunteer/Westpac rescue helicopter. These guys do a great job year in year out pulling fisho's out of the water... http://www.vimeo.com/3156959 Enjoy! Golden rule.. never fish the stones alone! AJ

    Sea Legs

Ouch! Waiting at a boat ramp doesn't sound all that bad in the end

    Sea Legs

great idea though... Good for the camping/off the beaten track locations where there are no boat ramps, or you have to drive half way around a bay to get to the ramp, only to have to boat it all the way back aross the bay to get to a spot... Not to mention waiting a ramp.. Saves alot of wear and tear on the trailer too I imagine... price tag... hmmm.. One can only dream I guess... AJ
  5. Looks like the green weed that can be found on some rock platfroms.. Worth a try i reckon... nothing to lose.. AJ

  7. That's an awesome pig! Well done Peter! AJ
  8. prefertobefishing .... PRECISELY! you need to know your target. that alone will greatly improve your catch.. and like everything.. it takes time... we could tell you exact location and bait to use, but I have found that a spot will completely fire one day, and be completely dry the next day, week, month.. you name it... there are many factors involved.. Structure helps.. but tides, moon phase, air pressure, sweel, sunny/overcast can really change how a spot produces.. these things take time, and you can nly learn by spending time doing what we love doing best ... AJ
  9. yep.. middle harbour... A mate abandoned beach mission with me.. so i went for a quck flick...
  10. I went for a solo night mission on plastics on Friday night... 10:00pm to 1am.. 8 snapper, 2 bream all in the 15-20cm mark... all on plastics... undersize fish, but getting the hang of plastics
  11. That's what i was thinking.. guides etc prehaps more likely to corrode/cheaper components, but provided you wash your gear properly after every use.. shouldn't be a problem.. right? Thanks mate!
  12. Been looking at 2-4kg spin sticks, and have noticed that some rods are marked as freshwater rods? Is there any difference? is it in the quality/type of components used? Anybody know? care to shed some light?
  13. Looks like it might be a sailfish?
  14. Which has worked best for you Hodgey? The 129VS looks pretty sweet Have the bubble pop 45's in colours similar to the A16 and XBBO which seem to work well on the bream.. and the terns! On another note Tan, when's ur next bobbin head session planned? should try have a session down that way some time soon...
  15. Happy for it to stay at 11'6" though looks like I'll need to rmove the second last guide and add a new top guide... easy enough to do by oneself? Just means i've lost a little casting distance.. no biggie... still have the 13'6" for casting big baits a mile... AJ
  16. Ouch! looks painful Ross! Hope your fighting fit in a months time when we tackle the tuna! AJ
  17. Like Browney mentioned.. used to happen to me all the time... haven't tried winding in tighter etc, but have found over time that it just doesn't happen anymore... Improved casting technique and timing has fixed it on my end... AJ
  18. Raiders, Over the long weekend, my 12' heartland became 11'6" after slipping on the stones... Any pointers on repairing this? Easy enough to do myself? Rough cost If I were to take it in to a rod repairer to fix? Any reputable rod repairers you've used that you could recommend? AJ
  19. haha.. how happy does he look!!! Well done! Looks like a nice little spot there too! AJ
  20. At my little local spot, I've tried squid and prawn bits ona jig with no joy.. have had best results with an unweighted, un-baited jig that I just float out into the berly trail. When this doesn't work, a little bit of bread on each hook and bobs ur uncle. I burley up with bread crumbs, sometimes with a little bit of tuna oil mixed in. When unweighted jigs aren't working, I throw a small sinker on and let it sit a little deeper Unweighted jigs with bread have landed me some good live garfish too! dynamite bait! What i have found with the cheaper jigs, is that sometimes the hooks aren;t very sharp, or corrode enough to maek them blunt after first use... you can still get them on blunt hooks, but you loose alot of the little buggers too.. Whereabouts are you based? I tend to go for midweek baiting sessions, if you're nearby, Might be able to come out with you.. Good luck!

    Close Call

Air horn not a bad idea... will take that on board (... no pun intended ) I keep a whistle in the glove box.. but in the quick panic that it was.. it was the furthest thing from my mind... over 200 views on this post... top stuff!!! As long as everyone who's read this walks away taking their responsibility on the water seriously.. it was well worth a post.. .. and I got to rant! Happy fishing all!

    Close Call

We were anchored about 5 metres off the moorings... but weren't in the channel so to speak... Pelican, I don;t think it's an 8kt zone where we were, still a a short motor away from the bridge... We were almost directly opposite Clive park, but on the seaforth side, near the point... He had no reason to be going the speed he was going or really to be so close to the side.. mongrel didn't stop... was almost like he didn't care... We were all just about to jump off the boat, that's how close he got, and looked like he wasn't going to swerve or turn in time... Very lucky in the end
