  1. 2 x jew, 18kg & 21kg spun up at the entrance of Narrabeen lagoon in a flood in 1991.
  2. 65 kg yellowfin caught off Malindi, Kenya.
  3. I lost count!! I know that 4 of us bagged out, & that was before the new bag limits, so a bloody lot. I think we ate dollies 5 different ways.
  4. Ohh & thanks for making the pic visible. I'm an amateur with the new format
  5. Hahahaha! We have eaten a few of those together! Yep, it was delicious. Thanks Donna.
  6. Didn't weigh it, but my estimate is around 10-12kgs. Measured out overall at 132cms
  7. Don't worry mate. I was fishing on a very peaceful early morning on the Tweed with my son & had a rower smack straight into the back of my boat. He then abused me for being in his way! Luckily I had my boy on board, as I didn't want to set a bad example.
  8. Too right mate. It turned out an awesome w/end! It's actually a cow & one of the biggest I've seen. On a snapper rod & 30lb braid it went nuts & pulled alot of string. I also learned an interesting fact about dollies. If you take the biggest bull out of a school then the biggest cow turns itself into a male. I never knew that. You learn something new every day.
  9. Hi Raiders. Just a quick report. Headed down to Evans Head for the long weekend. We had a big crowd in a hired house of 4 adults & 7 kids. Friday arvo we hit the beach for some pipis & a total of 5 rays. My mate took his Tabs tinny down & Saturday was the pick of the days to head offshore at sun up. Unfortunately his sounder packed it in & we couldn't pick up any bottom structure. The gps was still working, so we dropped as close to the marks we had & burleyed hard. Scored a few squire to 40cm & then jigged up some yakkas. Moved to another mark in 30m of water & I tossed the livie out on 30lb braid. As I was free spooling it down line started ripping off the reel. Set the hook & after an epic fight nailed my pb dolly. Fought it right out, so managed a few pics while it still had colour. Home by 1pm, cleaned the fish & then hit the beach in the 4wd's again & fished a nice gutter for a bag of dart. My young fella was stoked to score his 1st fish off the beach & we had a massive feed of crab, calamari & dolly that night. Action packed 48hrs. It felt like we were away for a week! Pic attached. Cheers, Grant.
  10. Yep, I always use black. I really like the look of Rick's fave surface lure as well. A good head torch is the way to go, & yes, try to keep it off the water. Here's another one caught with Stewy on the jitterbug. Notice the bigger fish on surface are at night. Usually just on or after last light.
  11. Yep, but the bigger, double jointed models. The only thing with them is that the fittings are screwed into them & a big cod will pull them clean out of the lure, so I unscrew all the fittings, araldite them, & screw them back in. That holds them.
  12. & don't forget for the bigger fish throw a livie out a bit wider than right in close to the FAD
  13. My 2 fave surface lures are missing from that lot. A double jointed jitterbug & a Kingfisher. Both wide paddlers that work best with a slow, constant retrieve. I like them in black. My mates rank the Jackall Pompadour, but I haven't had much of a chance to use them as the Jitterbug keeps getting whacked!
  14. Yep, + 1 for the Brunz local. Close to shore & ideal for a small tinny on a nice day. The mackerel have been hit & miss so far this year, but it's a great spot for spotties.
  15. There are some nice trout in there Tara. Quite a few small ones, but I did nail a 56cm rainbow there on a tassie devil,& a few browns around the 35-40cm mark. I used to tie a fly about 20cm above the lure & would get fish on both. Celta's, Tassie devils & small rapalas were the gun lures. I never saw a bass or a carp in there, but no doubt the carp would be there now. You have to fish the witching hours at first light or dusk. It's been a long time since I've been there, but say g'day to Brian & Ina from Grant. We used to go there a lot.
  16. Yes mate, casting on any gear. Trolling is fine. I do the same, but trying to cast any braid to leader from 2-50lb with the leader on the spool just doesn't work too well.
  17. I don't like a double uni in 60lb leader. Too bulky & hard to lock down. Do the FG & it will never happen again. Sorry mate. I don't agree with the above. Leaving any leader with loops on the reel is a recipe for all sorts of problems. Keep the leader off the reel.
  18. So will many others by what's been posted. Please respect the land & keep this beautiful part of the world clean & tidy. Looks like I'll be looking for a new cod spot.
  19. You've got to be kidding me?? Nice trip.
  20. Even on the nose. Screw & araldite it in. Then a split ring for sideways movement, being such a big, deep diving bib.
  21. I easily keep muddies alive for 3-4 days in the shade with a damp hessian bag or some mangrove leaves & branches if I couldn't be bothered tying them to settle them down. Not sure about blueys though. I would think it can't be too hard to keep them kicking until a Xmas eve cook up.
  22. A 4.5m Polycraft is an awesome boat for the price as. There's one for sale on this site. I've fished on them in Weipa & they were very nice to fish out of & handle rough conditions. Great size for estuaries & very capable offshore as well.
  23. I know that we've been down that road before. Major brands buy in bulk. You pay through the nose for a small print run of say 100 items, even 200. Then there has to be a small profit or charge to allow for delivery/postage & time. We did the sums years ago & it was going to cost more than $30 each to get them done. It just wasn't worth it. I've still got my original. They were top quality. No rips, tears, fading etc. Still looks great today. It would be very difficult to find that quality & price again.
  24. Hey mate. You'll easily do that beach! The car ferry is $5 & takes about 5 mins!! It cuts straight over the Richmond River. You have about 20kms of beach to drive on before you get anywhere near the coffee rocks if you go in at Sth Ballina.
  25. Hi Rick. It's the polyester resin that's not water waterproof & the reason fibreglass pools & boats get osmosis. Done in layers there is polyester resin for strength & thickness, a layer of vinyl ester resin which is waterproof & then your gelcoat which is also waterproof. The vinyl ester resin is a very important layer. It's stronger & waterproof. The gelcoat is inherently brittle & usually only 1-1.5mm thick. Any thicker & it cracks easily. Hope that helps!
