Hi Stylo, Thanks for the advice! one problem eliminated. I re-spooled my line off and on again using the spare spool that came with my reel. Had 40~50 casts yesterday with no problems. Cheers, katsuo

Thanks jewgaffer, I will keep 'tuff line' in mind for future. Oh I didnt know that picture I posted was a 'seriola kingfish' im guessing you can only catch these beasts if you have access to a boat. The sushi restaurant would have recieved that kingfish freshly caught same day. and then served straight away for the customers. Japanese people only like fresh sashimi. Live Octopus sashimi? not sure about that one. Basically if you want to eat octopus as sashimi you only eat the legs.

Good evening Davy, Thank you for your advice. Yes your right I am closing the Bail arm too quickly. I will make sure the line falls back onto the spool properly next time and keep some tention when reeling. Would you recomend a good quality braid for my reference next time. Cheers, Katsuo

Dear Fishraider members, I hope someone can assist me. I started using braid for the first time. I have a 15lb braid and it tends to kink up when I cast it. Just like a kink in a backyard hose. Does anyone know a way to prevent it from happening? The reel im using is a Shimano Seido 4000FA with Sufix Matrix pro Super Braid. Kind regards, Katsuo
  12. Nice catch! The smaller Yakka is good for sashimi. after that coat the left overs in a little bit of flour and pan fry them so its nice and crispy. mmmmmmm

    Bonito!

Hah! so you know what Bonito is in Japanese. Since moving back from Japan I always wanted to fish for Bonito of the shore because you can't do it in Japan. And I also wanted to prove it to my wife. I made Katsuo Tataki with my catch. It was delicous!.

    Bonito!

After two weeks of snow boarding in Japan I couldnt wait to get back and start fishing for Bonito. Bought some nice metal lure's from a Japanese fishing store. headed out to Bass Point in Wollongong on Saturday. Wanted to fish for some Bonito on my new rod. The weather was nice and sunny. After casting and retrieving my lure for 2 hours I finally got a hook up My very first Bonito!!! at 42cm. Compared to the other folks there they were catching ones up to 60cm!!! *I very jealous* Can't wait to go back out there for round two this Saturday.
  16. SPEAKING OF SASHIMI Kingfish (Buri in Japanese) is the BEST in winter. Im in Japan at the moment and Kingfish Sashimi is DELICIOUS!!! because of the fat they put on during the winter months the king fish here that they catch is 10KG! very fat. Winter Kingfish also have a different name and the Japanese call winter Kingfish KAN-BURI Watched a fishing show the other day and the catch these KAN-BURI on a hand line (no rods) just line & gloves. CRAZY! For me, Its way too cold at the moment to go fishing, (snow snow snow) The fishing & tackle stores here have a excellent range of tackle goods. (i have attached a picture taken from a seafood restaurant in Japan this is the KAN-BURI sizes that they catch in winter)
  17. Hi Roberta, Like your fishing report! fantastic Whiting on a popper! yakfishing & Roberta, Where can I get a canoe like yours? how much? Cheers!
  18. I fished in 3 spots so far, please see attached picture.
  19. Yeeros & Injay, thanks for the info. greatly appreciate it. I dont have any access to a boat yet, so im kinda sticking to rock fishing at the moment. Sydney Harbour would be the easiest area to get to for me. But i dont know where to start fishing at. Is there a great spots in Sydney Harbour which isnt too treacherous? Sorry if this question doesnt relate to this topic, but I didnt want to start a new thread. And hoped I could just keep this question in here only for now. Your knowledge is greatly appreciated. Cheers,
  20. Hey thanks for the info. appreciate it. Will try again in a fortnight when it gets hotter.
  21. It was my first time fishing at Hill60 last Saturday with my Brother. When we got there there were 5~6 people already fishing, everyone were using pilchards. Me and my brother are kinda new to lure fishing and we started using metal lures. My brother cast out his lure and he got a bite, turned out to be a mackrel. he caught 5 mackrels within a span of 3 minutes. crazy! and I havnt even started setting up my rod. I too started catching them like crazy. The other folks just watched us have all the fun. I think thats the best thing about lure fishing is your contstantly active and hunting your fish. Well anyway our aim was to catch some bonito. Can anyone tell me if they have caught Bonito before off the rocks at hill60??? what is the best time of the year? what are the best lures?? and how fast do i need to reteive my lure. I live around Sydney and I just want to catch Bonito! Cheers!
