  1. Saturday, 7th of June 2008. Woke up at 7am to go pump some worms at chipping norton for an hour. went back home with a hand full worths in the ice cream container (no ice cream). packed my rods and gear into the car. headed out to Brighton Le Sands. arrived at 11am it was high tide at 11:30'ish. Gave my wife the soft plastics rod. and I was left handling the worms as the hates touching them. 4 x 27cm whiting (on worms) 1 x flat head (on SP) 1 x small pippi WHAT THE?
  2. Thanks Roosterman! thanks for the warning, thats why i used a towel to handle them. slippery buggers to hold arnt they. Cheers. Hi Spirit_Fall, I didnt wade at all, I fished off the break walls there and all the hook ups were almost 7 meters in front of me. I just slowly retrieved the plastic so its working the bottom surface. standing at one point and casting at different angles, then moving up 2 meters until i reached the end of the break wall. Good luck! Thank you to all for your comments! Cheers, Katsuo
  3. Nice kingy there! I think the date settings on the camera hasnt been updated. new camera maybe?
  4. Woke up this morning and just had a itch to go fishing havent had much luck lately. Told the lets go for a quickie (no its not what your thinking of) Last week I bought a new Flueger 6'6" Soft Plastic rod from my local tackle store equiped with a Shimano 1000 FB. My first Soft Plastic outfit. Using 4lb fireline 4lb with 12Lb Seaguar flourocarbon leader connected to Squidgies Pro Range Sp's (color:LAVA) Anyway checked the tides and it was high tide at 11am, alright decided the location should be brighton-le-sands as there was reports of Flathead taken from there. arrived at about 10:45ish. was working my way up the breakwall there making sure im covering every area. 10 mins later I scored a healthy 35cm, and released to get some more weight on worked my way up the break wall almost half way to the end where the water is about 1.5 meters deep and I scored a decent 45 cm flatty which went into my bucket for dinner. 1 hour later I reached almost the end of the break wall and the water would have almost been 2 meter deep and then I get a nice jerk on my rod. uh! this one feels a lot better. A lot of thrashing about. landed it. and it turns out to be my personal best 56cms spent another 20 mins and then went home.
  5. Very interesting, Im gonna start keeping a log on the weather conditions everytime im out fishing. I think Jewgaffer was talking about the barometric effects on Jews in one of his posts.
  6. whatmatesdo Nice report! I was around there on Sunday as well but at Mosman Rowing Club. What kind of plastic were you using when you caught the trev?
  7. Hi Adz, Nice report and to Fishraider! here you will find a lot of information regarding everything about fishing. The people in here are very knowledgable and I hope you get a lot of information from all the existing threads in here. If you want to know something best to use the search tool first. I can remember my first catch when I was around 4 years old. My uncle took me out fishing some where near Rockhampton. It was on a hand reel with a white fishy looking plastic lure. Me uncle casted it out for me. after maybe 30 mins I had that exciting moment when the hand reel almost flew out of my hands and i was screeming "fishy fishy!!!" my uncle helped me reel it in and I learnt that it was called a "Flat head" kept it and cooked it at my dads Restaurant it was the best time. And a very memorable experience because I can still remember that moment. Im 26 now and its still there in the easy access foler in the memory bank of my head. Only recently I started getting into fishing again, and this forum has been great. Would like to read about how everyone else caught their very first fish!!! Cheers, Katsuo

I have never used livies before, what sized hooks should you be using and do you hook them behind the head? By the way would plastic Jerk Shads work well? Cheers, Katsuo.

Now I want a piece of the action. All I just want to know is... does anyone know of any nice fishishing locations. I don't have a Boat so it will be Land Based. Location, Bait/Lure used and techniques, Best time of day. If you can provide a map it will be great. Thank you, Katsuo

    Line Twists

Dont think it really matters... or does it? Does it affect casting? because I think it is working quite fine. Dont know what the difference would be. Does anyone know?

    Line Twists

yeah what is with that aye, its not all even.

    Line Twists

I also noticed when I started getting line twists I had my spool filled up too much, I allowed at least 3~4 mm gap from the edge. This might help as well i think.
  17. Hi MallacootaPete, Thank you for the pic! much appreciated. Will have to stock up on some. Cheers, Katsuo

  19. Hi Josh88, Thanks for the info, im very new to using soft plastics, practically havent used them before. What does a jig head worm hook look like? Kind regards, Katsuo
  20. Thanks for the tips. I guess the name says it all huh... Jerk shad... jerk it! Should I add a small sinker to help it sink quicker?

    Bonito!

When down to Hill 60 on Sunday to have a go at catching another Bonito. There were quite a few people using gang hooks with pillies. I was the only one using a 25gm metal lure. it was a bit quite for a couple of hours so I did some squid jigging and scored 2 for dinner. then the Bonito's started comming in. 1.... 2.... 3... hook ups by some of the men using pillies, then I switched over to my metal lure and bang! Im ON! ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz my line screamed and then it stopped and I was reeling it in and enjoying the moment Zzzzzzzzzzzzz again and again. I was loving the fight the Bonito gave Got it close to the rocks and reached over to get my net so I can land it. It was pretty big maybe 2.5 kilos. As I reached for my net I snaged my line on the oysters on the rocks and snapped my line. Oh Bugger! had a great time but wish I landed it.... oh well........ It was Bonito frenzy out there around 12 Bonitos hooked up and landed. And one Aussie Salmon which did some aerial manouvers. Had my polarised sunnies on and I can see these Bonitos chasing after my lure 4~5 times. anyway better luck next time.

    Line Twists

I re-spooled my line onto the spare reel and then back on the main line. I have had no more line twists. Suffix is doing a great job now.
  24. Nice catch mate, how did you cookem?
  25. Hi Raiders, I want to pick your brains a little for some info... I went down to the local camping & fishing store and was interested in trying out Plastics. So I asked the staff what should I use to catch Kingies? He recommended me 7"Jerk Shad [sardine] with Mustad Mega Bite size 5/0 hooks. My question (which I forgot to ask the staff because I was in a rush) is how would you retrieve the lure for the best results? Cheers, Katsuo
