  1. The number of times ive been out and not turned a reel, either on charter or not, is depressing. Realistically you can't blame the charter guys for giving it a shot for you - average weather or not - although i agree you should have been made aware of the weather conditions prior to passing the heads. Expecting charter operators to offer discounts for poor fishing is a tough one as consunables such as fuel, bait, tackle etc have been used and need to be replaced, fish or no fish. I can assure you when you own the boat/gear the costs for such a trip exceeds the charter cost you paid and you shouldn't let this experience deter you from having another crack at it.
  2. I'm looking to head out Saturday afternoon/night for a drift off lion Is over the high tide.
  3. External auditor for big 4 accounting firm... Don't worry, nothing tax dept related...
  4. I would expect 25l/hr per engine at 20kts. This also depends on the condition/growth on the hull. My 23' with single v8 does about 30l/hr at 20kts
  5. I find Flint & Steel is very overrated. All i ever catch there is a cold....and a hangover! Juno is your best bet i reckon.
  6. I totally agree. I recently removed the carpet from the deck of my Bertie and its great. I can hose it down and spill whatever without worrying about the carpets. Plus it looks better as the carpet was abit rough around the edges.
  7. Great boats with a good reputation. There's a bertram 18 runabout on ebay at the moment. Might be worth a look for comparison purposes

    Sunday 11/09

Anywhere is as good as anywhere at the moment. Pick a nice quiet spot and drop a line. You may be suprised
  9. I have a no banana policy onboard. In fact, i was going to name my boat NO BANANAS but i thought that could be almost like having a banana onboard perminantly!
  10. Going to wet the lines on Saturday afternoon out of Pittwater into the Hawkesbury in chase of some fathers day BBQ Jewies! I know i will become the #1 favourite with the inlaws if i provide the fresh fish for dinner! Hopefully Saturday will deliver. -Dave
  11. Favourites gotta be the Ugly Stick 15kg and TLD25. Pitty i don't get to test its "true durability" and put it to the test more often...
  12. Not much happening for Saturday, but will be fishing Sunday morning in Pittwater somewhere and off the watch Manly destroy the dogs at Brooky in the Arvo!! Should warrant a few cold
  13. I think the elusive Hairtail strikes again!!! That's a very clean bite.

    Empty

I release all my fish... except bait fish (yakkas etc...) I figure i fish for the sport of it and if i took them all, there will be no sport left for the future. Even now there's a major decrease in fish compared with 10yrs ago. I have no problem with people keeping anything that's legal. But i HATE seeing punks dropping tiny bream into a kill tank for some sorta crap stew or something. -Dave

    Boating Costs?

Some people say as a rough rule of thumb - A boat will cost at least 10% of its purchase price annually to keep and maintain to a high level. Going off my boat - i feel 10% is conservative.... maybe 20-30%
  16. Also have a look at Whitworths and the like for Burke sailing gear. Some of the jackets are nicely lined - warm and weatherproof.... and not all are fluro bright colours! There under the $200 mark i think. Dave.
  17. Its not showing but that may be because its so big. Try resizing the picture and relinking... should work then. Dave
  18. Planning to get out for a fish sometime in between study time Depends on the weather too
  19. A "no wash zone" is exactly that - No wash. A trailer boat for example will put off less wash on the plane than it will at 8kts, therefore, you can be on the plane in a no wash zone. The idea behind "no wash" is to stop gin palaces motoring through at 12kts with a tsunami for a bow wave and destroying the banks of the river. just look behind you next time your on the plane... if there's no 'swell' pumping off the boat you will be fine. Also, check out This link and this other link for more info -Dave.

    Streaker Boats

I'm throwing a vote for the Bertram..... cause im bias For $30-35k you can pick up a 23-25ft with fully recon motor/s that will be perfect as an offshore rig. Great sea hull and strong high top sides so no chance of falling overboard when your leaning over with the gaff in hand helpin out a mate!! My 23 fishes 4 off the back no probs... But in your case, not sure about trailerability, its basically a water dwelling machine Cheers, Dave.
  21. Did better then we did. Went out off F&S last night (Sunday) for the high tide. All we got were a couple of eels and a tailor... Atleast we had to keep us sane...

  24. I did a drift off the eastern side of Lion on Sunday morning too... Only small flatties and 2 keeper flounder. Then went over to the valiant with no luck. Oh well, beautiful on the water anyway. -Dave.
