  1. Hey Jack, I fish Narra Lagoon all the time for flaties and breambos. The lures you have will do the trick no prob's. Basically fish can be caught throughout the whole system. I'm not a huge fan of the sand flat and drop off around the caravan park because of the lack of weed compared to other parts in the lagoon. Although people do have success there. Anywhere there is weed patches mixed with sand/mud grounds where there is a drop off you will get fish. Don't be afraid to cast into really shallow water either (less than a foot at times), especially around dawn/dusk in summer/autumn. Stealth is the key. Just work these lures by slowly twiching them from the weedy/sandy flat, over the drop off into the deeper water. All along the main channel that follows Pittwater Rd up to the Pittwater rd has these conditions so try there. It's an easy drift from the Caravan Park ramp. However, i have had most of my success west of the pittwater rd bridge (but this is probably more to do with the fact that i mainly fish these areas). Oh yeah, and unlike most tidal estuary situations the fishing isn't as tide dependant in narra lagoon. I've found the time of day and season to be way more important than the tides. Probably because there isn't much tidal flow, especially up the back, it's more like a lake situation. The flathead don't mind the sun too much but the bream will definitley come on more in low light conditions.
  2. Good on him! Glad someone out there is having a crack, can't wait for the pollies to do something. We really do have to change our idea's about water usage and how we treat our rivers. Our ways of the past just won't cut it anymore.
  3. Great session none the less!
  4. Looked like some sweet times there. If that's the Dunbogan that lies on the Camden Haven River i know it well and have fished it for 25 years. An amazing blackfishing river and can be shoulder to shoulder when they are on at the nthn breakwall. Great nipper grounds too and a prolific system for all estuary species. I'll be back up there before xmas.
  5. I think you will find you will get hundreds of different responses on sp colours for flathead and almost as many on the shape, i.e shad, fish, minnow, grub. After specifically fishing for flathead for many years with soft plastics i have come to the conclusion that flathead will eat almost ANYTHING and of any size. The jig head size is probaly more important than anything. Enough to get it to hit the bottom, but not too much to effect the action of the lure so as to remain "realistic". Blades and hard bodies are great but no soo good in really weedy areas. I've also got a few on poppers. But if I could only take 3 sp's with me (fishing mainly 1-12 foot of water) it would be - 1. 80mm squidgy fish in silver fox on a 1/3oz jig head 2. 3 inch gulp grub in pumpkinseed on 1/16oz jig head 3. 4 inch gulp minnow in smelt pattern (poddy mullett) on 1/8oz jig head and if i could sneak in a 2inch gulp shrimp in new penny on a 1/32 oz jig head for the flats that would be great too
  6. Enough water exange for squid also Greg? If it only has holes in the top how does the water get in and out easily without it being fully under water?? Thanks
  7. Yeah that's the type of thing - thanks fellas. I suppose the bait bucket is a better idea than the burley bucket purely for drainage issues when on the move. With that plano bucket - does it stay upright? Cheers
  8. Hey lads/ladies, I have a 3.5metre v-nose punt that doesn't have the room to fit a live bait tank, pump etc. I've just been using a large bucket for my livies and re-filling every 20mins or so which gets very annoying. Works ok with yakkas but squid die after a while. Anyway i was having a think about this (leading up to the kingy season) and thought maybe i could add a biggish hard plastic burley bucket( the one with heaps of holes) to the back of the boat and use that for my squid, yakkas etc. Would this be ok you reckon? Constant exchange of water so i thought it might work. When on the move would they get bashed around a bit too much? I could add a lid to stop them coming out the top too. Thoughts? Thanks
  9. Hey all, Going to be doing a bit more bass fishing this summer but would rather not fork out too many more dollars on surface lures if can be avoided. Was wondering (hoping) if the bream/whitting surface lures i use (bushy stiffies, rebel pop's, river to sea bubble pop, small daiwa walk the dog pencils) would be ok on the bass??? I don't have any in dark colours. Is this a problem? Mainly on Glenbawn Dam. Cheers
  10. Solid start to the poppering season there Hodgey. Excellent stuff. I managed a few bream on a Bushy Stiffy popper on my local water yesterday arvo. Great fun and I'll be doing a lot more of it this summer.
  11. I just came back from the snowies. Heaps of people fishing the lower thredbo near the bridge, but that's seemed to be where the fish were. We tried up river but didn't see any trout and no follows. Slow all round. Saw a few fish. Got smoked by a good fish on a sx-40 and 4lb leader. Upped it to 8lb and caught a healthy 38cm male rainbow on a rapala rainbow trout minnow. A lot of guys nimphing seemed to be doing a bit better. Weather changed each day - was in t-shirt on sunday, then snowed on monday!

    First Jewie

Congrats Tony. Which system did you get him in?
  13. Certainly dredging and whiting don't mix. Don't think those silver bullets would be too happy in that dirty water, although on one hand it would stir up the worms and crustaceans ....... and the heavy metals, mercury, dioxins ......
  14. Hi Raiders, I'm looking to find a reliable (as much as possible) spot to get live yakkas and a spot to get live squid in north harbour and middle harbour. Basically around Manly/ Quarantine sort of area and west of the spit bridge (not including the spit bridge). Any help would be much appreciated as i'm super keen to crack my kingy virginity this summer. I understand this is sensitive info so a PM would be fine. PS - I'm fishing out of a boat, not landbased. Thanks for your help.
  15. Nice little session Slinky and well worded as usuall. I love going up that way myself, can feel like your many miles from anywhere yet the city is only around the corner. Out of interest are those the Ecogear blades you used? What size? Thanks
  16. Nice work Bully! How fun is it casting to a mass of feeding fish! I was out there too on sat and found heaps of bait with birds feeding but no fish feeding - that was out near North Head around 6-7am. Where did they end up busting up the surface out of interest and at what time? Was it near balmoral? Cheers
  17. Hey Josh, Mate it can get very busy around the peak times on the weekend. Especially in summer there can be a good que going on sat/sun mornings around the 6-7am mark. Give it a crack though.
  18. That's a fun little session, nice one. I was up in townsville recently just chucking a few blades around the rock walls and i can confirm the cod love them. Got a heap but only small. The cod certainly know where home is and those first few seconds are a real tussle!
  19. Sat - Hit Narrabeen Lagoon with softies for some Spring flatties Sun - Chase some blackies in sydney harbour, then toss some blades for EP's and (fingers crossed) a jew. Should be great just to be out there as it looks like a summery weekend ahead.
  20. Nice mixed bag on a mixed bag of lures Gotta love those EP's!
  21. Gotta love the tropics. I can't wait to get back up there myself.
  22. Re the vibes paint job, yes i have noticed that too. I don't know if its the fish bitting or hitting against structure when casting, but the paint job on my Jazz vibes and Ecogear blades have come off in patches quite quickly. It doesn't seem to effect their fish catching ability though, I think their action is their main attractant.
  23. That was some funny commentary there Jewgaffer. I was laughing out loud. More names for the cadbury cannal than you could poke a stick at!
  24. Top session Josh. All in middle harbour?
  25. Jake

    Dongers

That would explain the flatheads too!!!
