  1. A dealer will charge 1k plus depending on the install and steering type to be fitted

You would want to be very certain of your abilities to weld as you could easily end up with a pile of scrap

It's not just about good welds it's also about heat Managment and not distorting the panels

You also have to manufacture jigs and a holding jig which ups your costs

  2. Neighbour just picked up a v8. Petrol about about 10 years old I'm guessing the grand Cherokee would have to go look

    33l per hundred towing a 1200kg 20ft van

Previous owner had driven on the beach and all the front end was rooted could get front brake hubs off etc

  3. And if you have everything prepared its only a ten minute job per side

One tip is use plastic bags over your hands instead of gloves and just throw them away afterwards

  4. I don't know why they can't construct half at a time like they did at Tunks.

because it would cost more, double handling etc

i have a colleague involved with pontoons and the like and they defiantly prefer summer when installed marine structures :)

concrete also cures faster when the water is 20 instead of 14 degrees

  5. yes i bought new hubs from a trailer parts store and one of them made it 200m down the road before it collapsed

i was blamed for the fault

ive never had a timken bearing fail on 13 odd trailers

  6. Mate,

Towing a 700-800kg formosa with a BA Falcon with no problem. would agree with the others. something wrong with the car. went down to JB at average 95k/h with no issues. i noted though fuel quality had a significant impact. went down on vpower which was great. came back up on the local stuff and the car struggled.

    cheers.

    Dan

which formosa is it, hey have some very nice designs

formosa dont build a hull under 520kg

    hull 520

    trailer 270ish

    outboard 120ish

    fuel 70l so 60kg

    anchor chain rope 40g

radios sounders batterys saftery gear 100kg

    so more likley 1100-1200kg

and to the op dont tow in 5th you will come to a hill load the engine and box up and twist the overdrive off the side of the box

i currently have a dual cab bt-50 automatic 4x4 it towed my old boat 600kg and you didn tknow it was there

the new boat is a bit bgger 1100kg and more wind resistance but sits on 100 uphill easily

  7. Most sounders wont work correctly out of water due to the air gap between transducer and the ground. surprised you say it worked good out of water before.

my furuno 585 wont read anything out of the water

it also damages the crystal embedded in the epoxy as it doesnt have water around it to cool it

  8. Where is the grease going if people have to give them a pump every trip or two

They dont create a black hole and the grease just disappears

You pack the bearing and partly fill the hub that's it, all they are doing is filling the hub with grease and pushing the old grease to the back of the inside bearing

Only the outside bearing gets any benefit

  9. dont put more hp then max on the back, its against the law to exceed the manufacturers compliance plate, and now a chargeable offense if caught

remember in your licence test " your the skipper your responsible"

"Registration of a vessel may be cancelled or suspended if the vessel has become unsafe" or unseaworthy (exceeded the compliance plate makes the vessel unseaworthy)

look at the cubic capacity of the 20 versus the 25

yamaha 20 395 cc Recommended Max RPM 5500-6000

yamaha 25 395 cc Recommended Max RPM 5500-6000

same cc and rpm, so must be in the jetting and exhaust system or compression

the 30 then jumps to 496cc

find the 25 with the biggest cc as that is where torque comes from

  10. Hey Raiders,

What weight can an 80lb thrust minn kota move effectively?

    Cant find this info anywhere!

    Thanks guys

work out what a 17-18ft skeeter weighs and theres your answer

it wont allow for wind etc if you have a higher sided boat though

  11. Neighbour has the 4x4 great wall it's about 2 years old

It has rust comming out between the cab and tray and the transfer box seized te first time he used 4x4

He tows a one tonne loaded bike trailer and sits on 100 ok but big hills you have to drop gears early and keep the revs up

I have a ht-50 dual can 4x4 auto and went away with him towing my camper trailer about 1500kg loaded and comming up mooney mooney I passed him like he was standing still

Our insurance company at work will not cover them for rep use due to the poor cash ratings

As a comparison I was offered 22k trade in on a new bt-50

Mine is two years old and has 120,000 km
