  1. juggs if u can afford the luxury of owning a boat u can afford the license

    didnt read what i wrote?

im not complaing about a licence, its just mildly amusing how the state gov thinks its a cash cow

the fee is excessive is all

  2. My thinking was too trickle charge it overnight just needed it confirmed i have charged batteries before just not a deep cycle thanks for the replies i also have 100% battery acid at home too dilute if the battery needs a top up

a battery will fail if it is only trickle charged

generally a charger will ramp up to between 6-12 amps then back off when the battery is about 80-90% full

you need around 1amp of charging current for every 10amps of battery holding capacity

    so 90a/h battery you need 9amps 120a/h 12amps

  3. And don't buy the shitty $50 units from the auto stores

Nothing works better then a Cetek charger

We were having issues with starting high compression race engines and it turned out many chargers won't fully charge a battery

Cetek fixed our issue by giving us a full charge to start the engines, even the $200 charger from jaycar was inadequate

  4. What type of battery and what type of charger ?

Most battery's even with the screw in plugs still don't need to be unscrewed as the cap has a vent built in

Should also be charged as soon as possible after use

  5. Yep an idiot and deserves the fine

But what is disturbing is the cash cow they are turning boat owners and fisherman into

My boat licence is way dearer then my car licence , I use the car licence daily the boat every 2-4 weeks

And the fines and saftey requirements are getting nuts too

If anyone here is in any sort of boat accident do not talk to rms to give a statement untill you have spoken to a lawyer

A friend had a wave come over the back of the boat when he had a sea drogue out swamping the electricals and requiring vmr to rescue him

Rms investigated and fined him $2k for not keeping a proper watch ie he wasn't watching 360 degrees while operating the boat

Something that is impossible to do but they got him on his statement when they asked if he was watching the rear of the boat when it happened

A lawyer would have advised him on what to say in his statement to rms

Bit of a ramble but if you find rms after you you are going to get shafted hard

  6. just a conversation here im not denigrating fishraider or even pushing for FB for fishraider

i was just trying to put a voice forward that FB is not the antichrist

we had google out a few weeks back for a pay per click campaign

we confronted the rep on the fact we could see over 50% of the links to our site were comming from FB and google was second, after that it was a few % from random search engines

she confirmed that FB was becoming a major search tool

when you search in FB it looks through its pages and if nothing is there it searches the www and will display links

you can set up a fishraider page that allows no content to be posted and all it does is directs to here

a information page so to speak and you gain the benefit of free exposure

on fb i have a group of 30 odd small boat owners, when one of us is going out we throw it on there and see if anyone wants tag along

good for inshore stuff when we want a buddy boat for safety reasons

so it has it uses apart from that i just post photos of the kids for mum overseas to look at

  7. That has made my day Juggs, so this site fits in the profanity filter at your work but facebook doesn't? There's more crap on facebook :074:

Maybe your IT is a little "misinformed" and maybe i'm "ranting"

maybe the boss just knows i like fishing :)

nah few words get caught up in it there server they manage the risk

facebook is allowed as my marketing lady has to use it, and the other staff are trained to use it to promote the company

instead of paying through the nose to keep the website at the forefront of search results, a few targeted posts on facebook can really help with getting traffic to the site

  8. nothing wrong with facebook pages if admind properly, the ranters against it are probably just a little misinformed

pro - i cannot view fishraider from work due to the profanity filter, but facebook is allowed

pro - i guarantee you would get more searches for fishing information on facebook then through google.

my company just spent a lot of time researching and implementing a facebook page and our web page hits have gone through the roof as a consequence up 35%

cons - plenty if your a sky is falling type of person, but not enough to ignore it as a communication tool

  9. I have a spotfree on Sunday to fish botany

If wind stays away will have a quick troll for Bonnie's then fish in the bay for flathead

Plan to drift and use plastics at various spots I have

All the kings have left and gone offshore and waters too dirty for squid

Meet at stclair about 5-5.30 home by 1

  10. Hi guys,

How much water comes out of your boat when you pull the bungs?

If I just sit in the river, hardly anything comes out. But If I go to wards the ocean, drive fast, turn corners, fill up the bait tanks a lot more comes out.

    Is that normal?

none should come out, unless its rain or whats splashing into the boat

    you have something leaking

  11. Thank you for the advice. I will differently try next time I am out.

i fished the bay saturday in borderline conditions for my boat

we trolled 5kays south as close as we could to the rocks 2.5m-3m swell predicted, had the wind up my bum and copped a few 2 stroke fumes which on top of how rough it was sent me off colour a little

tried trevally alley for pickers, then drifted in the eastern part of the bay for a few flatties

  12. Oh and hey juggs, was that you out at WB a couple of Friday nights ago ? I had been to another spot caught my hairtail and stopped by WB on the way back to the ramp about 9 pm all I could see from cottage point was something lit up light daylight thought it must have been a UFO on the water catching hairtail.....???????

Probably was i was up there a few fridays ago giving it a run :)

  13. so you have 6k and need a 15ft boat, break it down into its component pieces

    10-15 year old 60hp engine $2500

    trailer $1000-$1500

leaves you 2k for a hull so 15+ year old aluminium with a very basic fit out

the boat in my profile is 16ft and cost me 9k and needed a fair bit of work, trailer is shagged etc

  14. I do it every 4 4l bottles of 2 stroke oil

When I buy a box of four bottles I buy a set of bearings

Weird but works for me if I use it more it means I check them more replace them more often

    Sometimes it's every 6 months

By the time you have heard the grinding noise it's highly likely you have scoured the stub axle which if not cleaned up or replaced you will shorten the life of the new set

20k of boat is reliant on $60 worth of bearings

Apart from the inconvienenace of breaking down and not getting out

Its not worth losing it at speed and destroying the boat or killing someone

  15. generally when jumping to 4.2m you get a lot more boat

more depth more width more transom height

these big bays botany broken bay melbournes bays even the big dams here can get choppy and worse really quickly

i can remmber being in 1.5m+ waves in broken bay one day when i pushed my luck with a predicted southerly

one minute flat the next life jackets on an dflares out expecting to lose the boat

  16. minimum 4.2m boat like a quintrex dory or stacer rampage

30hp minimum for when you have the 2 adults 2 kid, could also pull a tube around

two twarth seats and a floor between, a big bimini and a cheap sounder and 27mhz so you can get weather warnings as any bay can blow up

5k would get a nice package 8-9k would get a brand new one without the bimini etc

  17. I've owned both Yammy and Zuki, the initial purchase price would be less for the Suzuki, maybe somewhat offset by six monthly rather than annual serving. Yammy certainly have the advantage with he dealer network but I'd tend to choose your nearest dealer and go with his brand.

in both four and 2 strokes in the 50-70hp range yamaha were significantly cheaper then suzuki and lighter in the 70hp at least there was 20-30 kilos in it

yamaha also has the benefit of their yloan financing, which ive used to buy 4-5 outboards 2 bikes and even a gokart

also as you said a much larger dealer network then the others

  18. what engine is it replacing and what was performance like top speed and rpm and on what hull

basically the biggest contributing factor i sthe quality of the dealer doing the initial fitup, sorting out the prop and then servicing it

all brands are decent, to me the dealer matters most as all brands play up and id say about the same amount (purely guestimation before someone jumps on me about their beloved white engines)
