I have an old rod I built in 1984 on the butterworth fmt72L blank it is now a spiral .......as the fibreglass is slowly unwinding Still a favourite when bait fishing for bream not cause its a great rod just it was the first I ever built myself. Cheers Trev

I have caught small squid whilst prawning with light and net. Not many about 4 -5 and only once. Was at Rodd Point in Iron Cove Christmas Eve 4 years ago. Went with a mate who owns a tackle shop a customer had told him they had caught a heap of prawns there so we left our wives drinking champagne and went fishun and prawnin christmas eve we got heaps a prawns and these five little squid about the size of your hand perfect bait size. He used em on boxing day though. Cheers Trev

Saturday: I am playing in a Celtic band at Sutton Forrest for the Southern Highlands food and wine festival Just south of Mossvale. Have to be there at 8:00am wil be bloody cold. Whole family are coming and three kids! Should be a good day playing music with mates getting free food and wine and getting paid Tough Life eh.... Sunday: Good boy go to church in morning and then see if the Saints can actually win another game this year and beat the Tigers? Sadly no fishin this weekend but should have a good time. Lesta, When I fish with floats for blackfish I use split shot on the line about 4 -5cm above hook to have just the top 2 -3cm of the float showing. Have done the same for freshwater. Cheers Trev

Lesta, Have only very limitted bait fishing experience in the Nepean. I mainly lure and fly fish for bass. But you can catch carp using a small hook baited with corn kernels suspended under a float. Berley up with bread soaked in water till it is almost sloppy little bit at a time. Hang on if you hook a big one. Probably too late for good bass fishing but toss small HB or soft plastics at structure and edge of weed beds for bass. Let the lure sit for about 10 seconds before retrieve bass are terratorial and often will hit the lure if it just sits there, very exciting. Cheers Trev

I would also love to hear more. I have a three paice blackfish rod given me by my father all silk bindings silver nickel guides and rattan over cork grip. I have researched on the net a fair bit about building a rod from scratch. There are numerous sites if you do a google search. In America they have weekend camps where you can go and use their equipment to build a rod from scratch and learn from masters. Have not been able to find anywhere in Oz that does it. I would love to build from scratch a cane rod tie on one of my flies and catch a big bass or trout........ below is a link to a simple yankee site that has some good pics on building. Adrian, boat looks good. Have you had problems with water coming in over stern wher moter is. One of the questions I have is do I need to get a boat with a pod? I am no hero and wont be going any where too rough but I want to know what is best. Cheers Trev

Sputnik, Would you take you edge traker out into Sydney Harbour? say out to sow and pigs or is not the right shape/size? This may seem a simple question but I am fairly new to boating only used canoe and small 10ft tinnie.

Need your Opinions. I have been using an old 3m tinnie (trimcraft) with a tiny 4hp johnston this has been lent to me but unfortunatley the owner is likely to move up the coast and will I am sure want to take his little tinnie with him. ( I aint complaining free use of a boat for 3 yrs and he insists on paying the trailer rego!) But I need to buy my own. Will go shares with a good mate I very rarely go fishing without him so makes sense. Between us we will have max budget of $10,000. Have been looking at AllyCraft 4.10 topender??? Will fish with boat at Brisbane Waters and Sydney harbour not really thinking of going outside at all! Fishing styles Lure, Fly, and bait Any help with boat suggestions appreciated

Squid were caught in Paddey's Channel and near rip bridge. pulled to boat on line with prawn bait then netted. Will take a couple of squid jigs next time.?Worth a try Cheers Trev

Fished at Woy Woy on Wednesday from small tinne (3m) water was absolutely flat hardly any boats must have had something to do with the rain that was falling Any way Fished with a mate between us we caught and released (C&R) untold numbers of whiting and red bream. C&R five undersized flathead, 4 silver bream, 2 flounder 1 toad . Caught and Kept (C&K) 4 bream biggest 37cm 4 reasonable sized squid and one 28cm fan tailed leather jacket.
