  1. Blue was caught by Gale Force on the Saturday by owner Michael Kirby. Great fish & effort on 24kg. We managed a 45.5kg yellowfin on the Saturday & raised 2 marlin over the weekend. Don't be surprised if we see Bluefin turn up over the next 2 weeks. Cheers Damo
  2. Hi mate.. catch you down there on the Sat night for a beer. What boat are you fishing on? Cheers Damo
  3. It has always been a well run comp. You often get boats where they may only have the minimum amount of anglers registered (paid to fish the comp) say 4 but they have 6 or 7 people on board. By the tournament rules the non registered people cannot partake the capture or tagging of any fish. It will probably encourage boats to register all people on board and stop someone from missing out on the $50,000 because a non registered person with a rush of blood accidentally got involved. Cheers Damo
  4. Hi guys, The Port Hacking 100 is coming up on the weekend of the 16th & 17th of May. All the usual categories but this year they are offering a cash prize of $50,000 to the biggest blue marlin over 180kg captured. Get your entries in early as they are only taking 100 entry's in that category. Reef Magic will be entering. Their terms & conditions are a classic - always wanted to take a polygraph (see below) Cheers Damo
  5. Hi Simda... did you see the bait on the surface or were you just marking it on the sounder. Cheers Damo
  6. The fishing up and down the coast has been great over the past few months with the south coast seeing it's best marlin bite in my memory & Sydney to Port Stephens fishing great as well. Our return from Sydney has seen plenty of kingfish over the last week & with the Leeuwin current already pushing hard across the SA bight we are already seeing some cooler water start to push up from down south & east. This new water has seen the commercial fleet & a few lucky recreational anglers that have managed to get out catch yellowfin. The water hasn't dropped off enough to stop the marlin especially the stripes & blues. The weekend saw a great bite from striped marlin off JB with boats encountering up ten fish and the Banks continued to produce quality kings. When Sydney had a good striped marlin bite this season JB saw a good bite approximately 4 days later. Keep an eye for a good bite off Sydney late this week hopefully pushing into the weekend. With our Sydney competition on the weekend of the 18th & 19th April we should see good numbers of blue marlin & hopefully a few yellowfin. With some luck we may see an early run of yellowfin giving us plenty of time for the bluefin to turn up. Good luck if you get out this week & don't forget to post up on here whether you have any luck or not as it will probably save you some fuel in the future. Cheers Damo
  7. Nice one Scratchie.. It's starting to look good down here for the upcoming Sydney comp. Cheers Damo

  13. Had a look around for a blue marlin yesterday off Port Stephens with the Shootout coming up we headed wide. Had light bite then teased him back for an aggressive bite on the short rigger as blues do & he got to the boat very fired up & tagged & released in great condition. Approximately a 170kg model in 40 minutes on 24kg. Used a pair of HD video sunglasses for the first time yesterday & this is a still off them. Does anyone know how to change or get rid of the date on them? Maybe format the SD card? Still plenty of days available for charter if people are interested. Cheers Damo
  14. Hi mate sorry for the late reply.. we were only running 12lb line so they fought quite well. When you speak to some of the locals they are using 50lb + just in case that monster 1m+ fish grabs the lure. Cheers Damo
  15. We need 2 more people guys.. if your interested give me a call om 0407113349. Cheers Damo
  16. While the fishing was quiet off Sydney we went down to Wyangla Dam to try & catch our first Murray Cod. We had never fished here before so it was a challenge but the weather was ok and we managed to catch 9 cod (between 50cm-78cm) 3 x yellow belly & 1 x carp. All caught on spinner baits and stumpjumpers. All released to catch again on next years return trip. Cheers Damo
  17. Hi guys.. with the fishing hotting up and weather improving we have this Saturday available for charter. The cost is $1900 for the boat for the day, this includes all gear, lunch & soft drinks. We leave from Nelson Bay in Port Stephens Give me a call or post back up on here if your keen. Cheers Damo
  18. We took Reef Magic to Port Stephens yesterday in great conditions with raider Secho & his mate Camo on board. We ran all the way to the Newcastle canyons & trolled from then on. We saw 1 sun baking little black & as we continued north the water got better & better & sure enough the little black Bart on the shotty went off & Secho landed a nice 12kg Dollie while Camo wrestled it on the deck. It didn't take long to raise another fish as a black marlin trailed the long rigger & soon he couldn't resist the pakula lumo sprocket & Camo was hard at work. We got him on the leader & tag in before releasing a 70kg model. We are here now for 3 months & are moored in Nelson Bay if you would like to do a charter give me a call on 0407113349 Cheers Damo
  19. Hi Camo, As of Saturday we will be in Port Stephens & we leave at 6am & return around 5pm. The cost is $1900 for the day. Cheers Damo
  20. As the fishing continues to improve I would just like to share a fantastic catch by a great mate of ours Paul from Newcastle aboard his boat EagleVI. Paul is a regular with us aboard a Reef Magic & we have had some great days fishing together. Recently he took his two sons out on a boys day hoping to catch a few dollies or a marlin. Max aged 9 & Isaac 12 have been fishing with Paul for years & love going out with him. They decided to pull some lures with good reports of marlin about & soon they had a reel screaming.. Of course it was the 10kg outfit & Max got ready for the battle of his life. Soon Paul realized they had a good dolphinfish on & Max angled like a champion coached by Paul from the fly bridge. Max finally got the fish up and Paul got it aboard. A dolphinfish weighing 15.38kg for a small fry on 10kg line... a new pending NSW & Australian record. Max with his record catch The day wasn't over with them raising a marlin before another reel screemed off and Isaac grabbed the rod as a nice black marlin took off across the transom. He settled in for the fight of his life with dad talking him all the way. After an hour Isaac got an approximate 140kg black at the boat but unfortunately the leader broke & the fish swam off to fight another day. But what a great effort by a 12 year old & I'm sure he will have plenty more opportunities with a mad fishing father & welcome aboard with us anytime . Cheers Damo
