  1. Some nice squid there from a short session well done. Rainy weather seems to go well for chasing squid, I recall a day on the Bay the Arrows were so aggressive as soon as a jig hit the water it got hit on the surface in pretty deep water.

  2. Great topic Neil.  When everything is right it is hard to beat fishing for Dolphin fish on the right day.   A nice sunrise on the way out, the water a nice shade of blue, the live bait swimming freely within view and seeing the mahi buzzing the bait through the water and sometimes the hook up too.

I also like the simplicity of pumping Nipoers and fishing for whiting off the flats in a nice location.

One of the great things about fishing is it can be whatever you like, laid back and relaxed or active, simple like a hand line from a wharf or involved like game fishing. It really does offer something for everyone.

  3. We drifted from just north if Marley to Wattamolla, we were near Wattamolla when we took that photo. The was a couple out from Wattamolla on Stand up paddle boards when a whale surfaced right near them.   Nayer was wishing she had the time to take the photo so she could offer it to them.

The drift speed was good so I expected to find a patch of the bigger ones but it wasn’t to be.

  4. Fortunately everything fell into line today to spend the day on the water with my daughter.  With conditions a bit chilly but otherwise ideal we headed out and down the coast a bit.

We started off chasing squid but they didn’t play along, well for me anyway.  Tanaya did managed a cracker in 23 metres of water.

We moved on in search of a feed of flatties.   Fishing from 25 to 60 metres we didn’t find a patch of legal ones but picked up a couple.

We were treated to whales passing by all day which was a nice distraction for us both.

Hi guys. I will have to start charging for Secrets.

I picked up the green peas idea on a post on this forum about five years ago.

So I use cooked Aussie peas. They are a pain to put on small hooks.

When I burley I use sand & two handfulls of peas & scent on the peas.

The peas only started when I couldn't find decent weed.

    Cheers.

Thanks Rebel.  It looks like a good winter fishing option to me.

  6. In a plastic tub with aerator i have taken them from salt water to fresh water and back again.  I just changed a bit of water each day, i was using tap water but aged in a bucket for a few days before switching.   I didn't feed them much.

The night before a fishing trip id just put them in the live bait tank so the switch to salt water was pretty sudden 🤣.  The left overs came home and went back to fresh over time.

Spent plenty of time at Green Cape light house as we did the refurb of the lighthouse (Concrete repair and replace the channel the glass was sitting in and the cottages and some timber rot, so replacing the verandah supports and resurfacing the floorboards, including saving every nail which were made by the convicts.

One of the nicer places my employer sent me,

That sounds like interesting work in a nice location.

It was a long day out.

The dolly tasted like a game fish, not as strong in taste, but quite tasty. My son visited and made a lemon butter sauce which was a good compliment for the dolly steaks.

We used a lemon butter sauce last week as well, after consulting google.

  9. Opportunities have been hard to find so it was very nice to spend some time on the water on Saturday.

Dad and I were on the water before six and loaded up on bait without much fuss.  We set off towards the Sydney East FAD.  The wind outside the heads was stronger than predicted but we pushed on.

There was 5 or 6 boats on arrival for our first drift.  Dad was on in a flash and landed the first fish off the day a decent Mahi  just under 70cm.  I thought this might be a productive day, soon after I missed one and that was it they were gone. A persisting for quite a few drifts and the wind blowing its backside off we made the slow, wet trip back inside the bay.

We anchored up, got the burley trail going and caught a steady stream of 25-30cm Reddies and  Trevally.  We kept a  Trevally and Bonito that dad caught. On the live bait I caught a rat King that was good fun.  The conditions inside the bay were very nice.

Sorry no pics from this trip.
