  1. Thanks Donna,

I have had my first dose of Pfizer a couple if weeks ago.  A few days later I had nausea and vomiting.  I think most likely it was a reaction to it but who knows.

I will put the certificate on my phone after my second jab in a couple of weeks.

i read the federal government didn’t require Covid vaccines to be logged with AIR until May.  So i guess some early recipients may not show on the register.   I have also heard that people  that have had one of each ( Az and Pfizer) do not show as fully vaccinated but are not eligible for the third dose of either.  Hopefully they get that stuff sorted.

  2. I am all over the shop with this.  Feet or meters for depth, speed knots, miles or km is fine.  Temperature always Celsius.    As a builder, timber, building products or room sizes metric or imperial is fine, but for calculations metric.     For my car I generally use mpg for fuel consumption.    I was born in the 70s so we were taught the metric system, that was until I got into the garage with my dad or a building site with my Uncle when I started work.

  3. I managed to snag a couple of days of work with my daughter on school holidays.  She chose to go fishing and target flathead, so who was I to argue?

We kicked off from Swallow rock around 8 headed down south in nice conditions to our flathead grounds.

The conditions were pretty good with the day warming nicely, plenty of whales still about a decent drift and the fish joining in, it really doesn't get much better.  After a few nice hours on the water we had our feed and headed home.

I was surprised how warm the water was at around 19 degrees outside the hacking with a much more chilly 14 up river.    The flatties ranged from 37-48 cm.  One of the bigger ones had a fat belly with a recently consumed red spot whiting.  Mostly blue spots with the one Tiger flathead.   36C59BB0-6D90-4F57-9B4E-AC8AD347E480.thumb.jpeg.d3d576e10d9dbbc35a561de581341d46.jpeg483DD3DE-60AD-414D-BB8D-133A2847D1B9.thumb.jpeg.1e831ed3d3bf4ffd7f155cb9a0d62541.jpeg

  4. My advice is be careful.   There is nothing more frustrating than having a squid smash a live squid only for the rod holder to spin on the rail and your king outfit disappearing into the depths.

    G’day raiders,

Managed a leave pass today and headed out with @back cruncherand my tackle sponsor Al.
Left early and plan was to head north and see what we could find. Conditions were very mild so it was a nice easy trip!
On the way in the dark we were half way between the heads and Broughton when my mate Al says look at these weird lights! They looked liked stars all in a line but when we stopped the boat they were moving in a northern direction and perfectly spaced apart. Confused the shit out of me and the other lads.

Anyway, they disappeared so we moved on.

Got to our spot at first light and did a quick test drift before we moved into position.
It didn’t take long and I was on to a nice pannie, then another! Then when I was winding in fast a bonito took a liking to my lure and on it came aboard. Another cast saw the line screaming and here comes the next level snaps just short of 70 but very healthy. The lads changed plastics to my colour of pearl white as we reset the drift. Unfortunately there were no more takers and things went very quiet. We moved on and tried a few other locations but the bait wasn’t present and neither the fish. Went to a new location that none of us had been before and as we were ending the drift, I came up tight to a good fish that played hard. After a good 5 minutes or so a nice sized king in the 70’s is onboard! Yewwww

We reset again and this time I’m on to a screamer. A much bigger king than last time. I played with it for a while until I felt the weight under the boat and it was well over a meter. As soon as it saw the boat it headed for the near by rocks and my chances of landing it on a snapper stick went with it on that 50m run! Pop!!! 🥲

We tried a few other spots but was flogging a dead horse so headed for home in benign conditions.
Great day out on the water with Mick and Al. Sorry all the fish were on my side of the boat! I just got lucky 🤙

    cheers scratchie!!!

How good is it trying a new spot that produces first drift?  Hopefully the others come up tight next time or you might need to find a new sponsor 🤣

That is interesting about your uncle, I wonder what he was producing??

I think to some degree smithing still goes on in only a few facets these days like in the horse racing industry plus maybe in the arts.

There is a healthy resurgence in bladesmithing as well.

Getting off track on this post but hey we are still talking all things diy.

Yeah a bit off track sorry Frank but I think we all appreciate the skills some people accumulate over a lifetime.

As for my Uncle dad would know more of what he did for the council than me.  I do know he won some awards for vandal proof locks and Stevens Reserve on Stacey St was named in recognition of his service.  I will inherit his car stands one day hopefully in the very distant future.

I also really want to learn blacksmithing as well with the aim mainly to produce my own brand of knives, being a chef & all.

Have you seen @Fab1 post when he made a knife from a file for his son? I enjoyed that one.

Trades like blacksmith will probably never completely disappear but its a shame people with the skills are far fewer.   My “uncle” was a blacksmith for Canterbury council I’d bet there isn’t a council in Australia with a blacksmith now.
