  1. David Nice pic's , pity about the fish. That should be a good reason to go back & try again Geoff
  2. David It will look better when the Elect Motor is fitted Perhaps we can convince the Minister for Finance when you guys visit on Saturday Geoff

    Live Wells

Weiry I have an inline tap on mine to direct water to the deck wash. If turned the wrong way it cut off supply to both the D.W & tank. Perhaps a tape could be installed as a safety device Regards Geoff
  4. David You left your self wide open for that one Geoff
  5. Peter , It's all related to the weather & conditions. On a good day , NZ here we come. On the reverse , open bays & rivers can be a challenge I have a 4.6 & tomorrow with the weather looking magic plan to head down the coast from Pt Hacking to Marley , perhaps beyond. Pick your day & have a "Plan B" to fish inside if the weather is sad when you reach the heads. There was another post similiar to your question a week or so back. "Boat Suitability for Offshore Fishing" Last post 9/8/05. Check it out , there is a lot of good information Regards Geoff
  6. Saturday , Fishing with Mottyman (David) If the weather is OK south of Pt. Hacking , if not most likely Botany Bay Sunday , Visiting Mum Have a good one Geoff
  7. Sea Jay All the guys have given good advice. To pick up on a point iain made , always have a plan "B" should the weather be bad when you arrive at the ramp or turn bad during the day. A lot of fatalities occur because guy's have decided to go to a particular fishing spot & are totally focused on that decision with very little regard for the weather. The sea can be your best friend or worst enemy & when the weather starts to turn , head for home Apoligies if I sound like preaching but second chances can be uncommon Happy fishing Regards Geoff
  8. Saturday , fishing Botany Bay if I can get my son in law into gear Sunday Mowing the lawns Geoff
  9. Having fished the past two weekends , catching up on a few things around the house. The weather looks good & think I will regret not postponing the domestics until next week Geoff
  10. Tim I'm running a 70 2s on a 4.6mt twin hull aluminium boat & an average day which generally dose not inc too much trolling avg 1lt / mile. Regards Geoff
  11. Bluebottle Just something to keep in mind if using the "wing" style foils. I recall reading a post from a guy who nearly flipped his boat over & at the particular moment actually lost a peson overboard. Fortunatly no one was hurt. After much discussion & evaluation the verdict was , when turning the boat the wing actually dug in & worked in reverse , pulling the low side down. This is not to say it happens on all boats all the time , many would never experience such a situation. It is just something to be aware of Regards Geoff

    Boat Lengths

Tim My boat is described (called) 4.6mt. From the tip of the bow , not including the bow roller , to the transom measures 4.6mt. There is a half pod which adds approx 300mm so overall , 4.9mt. Regards Geoff
  13. David ( Mottyman) & I will be hitting Botany Bay on Saturday. Depending on the weather plan on starting around the heads then work our way back to Towra Sunday ???????? To far away Regards Geoff
  14. Guys I will be heading to P.S. next Wednesday for a few days , staying around the Fingle Bay area. Will be taking the boat & hope to get out to the 3 islands just off the heads. Any up date on the current action will be appreicated Tks Geoff

    Cavitation.

Norm A friend has a 4.6 Twinfisher with a 60hp 4s Yammie , origionally supplied with a 13" prop. Had all sorts of problems with cavitation but most was due to incorrect trim settings. Tried an 11" Yamaha prop & then an after market prop. Not much change. Fitted a Permitrim , refitted the 13" prop , this, combined with more familarity of the trim settings has all but elimated the cavitation problem. Initally , suggest the 13" , see how it goes & fit the PT only if necessary. For interest I have a 4.6 Twinfisher with a 70. It origionally came with a 13" & it was difficult not to cavitate. Changed to a 15"& the problem has gone. Have no intention to fit a Permatrim or any other "wing" accessory at this time Regards Geoff

    2 Stroke Owners

Tim The choice tends to come down to your own personal needs , frequency or distance being traveled & $$$$$$$ available to spend I purchased a new rig with a 70hp 2s approx 18 months ago & very pleased with the choice. Economy , On an average outing I use approx 1lt / mile. A friend has the same boat but with a 60hp 4s. Average fuel .750lt / mile. For me the additional fuel is minor as I onlly travel short distances. Also , when buying the boat the 4s was $675.00 more expensive & the service costs are higher. Noise. Most comments on noise come from camparing old 2s with new 4s & 4s wins every time. I tested new 60 4s & 70 2s & the difference was hardly noticable Smoke. Yes , 2s do blow smoke. It would be nice if they did not & that is one of the big pluses for 4s & E-Tec . Unfortunatly the alternative motors come at a high cost Hope this helps Geoff

    Cavitation.

Norm Let me guess , Webster 4.6mt with a 60hp & 13" prop. If correct , a permatrim will help. Would be interested to know what speed your running at in the conditions described. If it is the Webster , the boat rides best around 30km , 16 - 17 knots Regards Geoff
  18. Was planning to fish but between the weather & David ( Mottyman) having the flu have cancelld out. Will need to sit down with a drink or three & work out plan B Have a good one Geoff
  19. Tony. $2950.00 , petrol. 7 mths Rego. It's on the Tradingpost web. Search NSW , Mercedes , $2000 - $3000 for all the information Regards Geoff
  20. Have the car for sale , any one intrested in a 1977 230 Benz. Will try to get to the fishing show at some time Sunday , visiting family Have a good one Regards Geoff
  21. We headed out around the bombie and about 2km along the shoreline about 500m out It was not long after this that the first leather jacket came up, closely followed by another then all of a sudden lines were being tugged everywhere, quickly realising that we were over a school of jackets we all changed hook size and proceeded to drop the lines straight down over the side of the boat and within seconds of dissapearing into the water they were being taken. David & I fished the same (or near to )spot on Saturday with a similiar result. Family & friends love jackets so we kept about 20. On the way back stopped at the western point of Dark Bay only to find more jackets , these all went back Regards Geoff
  22. Darryl Your spot on , the Tuf line came from Sabre , For interest the Dynabraid from Five Spot. In respect to general pricing , the reels I looked at were $65.00 to $80.00 for spinning reels , brands I have never heard of so it was more of an overall impression rather than comparing specificate apples with apples. I did see a Penn 4/0 Senator & if I recall correctly it was around $150.00 General items like hooks , sinkers etc were cheaper but unless your buying heaps , hardly worth a mention. Also picked up two pkts of Storm Shad luers for $4.00 / pkt Regards Geoff
  23. For those who have been reading Andrew's post , "Anyone buying gear in asia soon" I have just returned from Singapore & thought Fishraiders may be intrested in the tackle sceen. There are in excess of 20 tackle stores in Singapore , 7 of which are in a 100mt stretch on Beach Rd, interesting that they are basically next door to each other. Like most stores in Singapore they don't open until 10.00 - 10.30am but do stay open late. Pricing was OK but not what I would call super cheap so don't expect to save a fortune , in particular with reels which generally were similiar in pricing to local stores. My main interest was to purchase some braided line & shopping around purchased 150mt of 20lb Tuf line for $16.00 & 200mt of 16lb Dynabraid for $18.00. I also visited 4 stores at Changi Village. The village is located on the western tip of the island & as such a $20.00 cab fare each way from the city (hotel). Prices were more expensive than Beach Rd so save yourselves the $40.00 Regards Geoff
  24. Saturday , Visiting mum in Hospital , hopefully she will be coming home next week. Sunday , Off to Singapore for a few meetings, back Friday ready for fishing on Saturday Regards Geoff
  25. Unfortunatly the photo of the Reddie David refers to above did not turn out. Will try to improve the photography next time Geoff
